Added on October 29, 2010, 9:36 amI heard from my friend who had her veneers done by Dr Raymond that he has really nice set of teeth (wore braces before) but I did not get to see them because he was wearing face mask... Has anyone seen his teeth?

Anyway, luckily we waited. The technology now is much better than years ago.

I agree with your point! It takes lesser time and lesser pain now to get our teeth fixed...

Hi Shenay, I'm going to have 2 screws installed next month. Am worried too... haha...

I had power chain installed this month on my front upper and lower teeth (not all the teeth)...

Within these 7 months of treatment, this was the only PAINFUL time I felt because of the power chain...

Fortunately the pain only exists during the installment. After that no pain already... Adui, felt like my whole gum and teeth were pulled out...

Hi NikkiDaTeddy,

Wow, what a complicated stuff done there sampai play zig-zag lagi haha... I feel pity to hear that, and wondering if I will go through something similar with you in the future haha... Doctor said I have 1 year to go (that was in Nov 2010 la), so there are still many months to come... hahah

The power chain was installed from canine to canine both upper and lower teeth only (Didn't ask doctor why just those teeth because too painful to think about it haha). Screws are used like in your case to reduce the gummy smile...

Last month, doctor put bite stopper on my upper gigi geraham up til to date, and now i can speak and eat better compared to last month. When I speak last month, because the upper and lower teeth don't touch (there's a gap between upper and lower teeth), I speak as though I have short tongue haha...

NikkiDaTeddy, does it hurt for you when the power chain was installed?

Added on December 21, 2010, 9:14 amForgot to mention, the power chain is to close the gaps between the teeth...

NikkiDaTeddy, i appreciate the pictures of your condition so much. At least if next month Dr does something like that, I will be prepared haha... Man I can imagine how hard it is to clean the teeth... Do you need to change the rubber bands everyday? Poor thing...

Shenay, lets brace it together haha...

But I guess having screws is better than wearing a helmet with wire attached to the braces according to the treatment before the screws were identified as the treatment to gummy smile... I wouldn't want to wear the helmet everywhere i go haha...

The power chain that was installed looks like the upper silver chain this picture (someone else's picture). Hurt so bad when it was installed!!! Didn't think it was gonna hurt that mad! But the pain was only felt during the installation, probably because my teeth were not straight enough so the force to pull the teeth together causes pain... Maybe other people won't feel as painful as I did...

You guys can watch how it is installed <here>.

Added on December 21, 2010, 6:12 pmNikkiDaTeddy, did Dr told you how many months more your treatment is?

YEs, during installation is damn painful cos have to force it in to hook it at the bracket or screw. The holes of the powerchain is very small but its is elastic, so the will feel pain when doctor force it in.

My treatment? Doctor didnt say anything, basically i think my treatment is dragging cos doctor didnt like my gummy smile. So he is doing his best to give me a best smile i deserve. smile.gif

Ya, each screw is RM 350.

True enough not everyone needs treatment for gummy smile. If you don't show a lot of gum when you smile then you should be fine... Gummy smile needs to be treated because it just show a lot of gum when you smile and from a far it makes you look as though you have think lips haha and it's not really nice to see... The doctor will tell you what treatments you require.

Just happen that there are several people here having gummy smile problem hahah...

I was given the price early last year. Dont know if they have increased the price or what la, or could be the material is different now or something?! Same as price of braces - could increased up to RM 500 per year?!

I am getting my braces next Tuesday. Can I know whether I am able to return to work the next day? Or should I take leave? How do you eat at work since not everywhere sells porridge?
*
As for me, I had "mee sua" soup because I could not chew for like few days after braces was installed. Mee sua soup is very soft and basically you can just swallow them with the soup with little effort of chewing them...

I'm sorry, yes...it hurts. But just endure and bear with it. Be calm and let doctor finish it. When its done then u're ok edy. No matter what, just close your eyes and pray it finishes soon. Be calm cos if doctor need to redo it, then u have to go thru the pain again.

Thanks for the advice, i will pray a lot!!! Haha!

Hi Shenay, yes, i had the screws installed in my gum. It didn't hurt because Dr inject anesthetic first. But I can feel the pressure when Dr change the wire to a thicker one and the powerchain.

But after the anesthetic started to go off, I started feel discomfort like a bit "pedih" but of course everyone's condition is different.

And I wasn't told that the screws would rub against the lip. Now I have small ulcer due to the rubbing of screws and the lip. So I put wax on it, now feels better smile.gif...

I am not looking forward to the next appointment when Dr changes the power chain like what NikkiDaTeddy has shared where the power chain gets changed every month!

Shenay, you have all my support! I know you are brave! Update us after you have it done ya!! Haha!

`twinkles, I sympathizes with your problem.

1. Friends and family members' opinions
Let you be the pioneer, the first to get braces. Maybe in the future, you never know who will follow your lead?! Forgive them as they are not sensitive about your feelings. They do not know what they are doing. One thing for sure, the outcome of your braces will definitely surprise them! smile.gif. It is also an experience where you get to learn how to ignore unnecessary comments and take what is useful.

2. Boyfriend
"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight"

Well forgive him as well for not being sensitive and not being understanding. Your treatment, just like kentcp said, it will not go on forever! So, give it some time because the proof will come out by itself as the time goes by.

A boyfriend should play a part of admiring the inner beauty of his girlfriend and also giving support to her esp. when she is undergoing braces treatment. It is actually a good opportunity for him to learn to be more understanding and for you both to grow in your relationship and learn how to accept, respect, support and help each other despite the situations and circumstances.

Added on January 10, 2011, 6:33 pmOh my God ! Just extracted one wisdom tooth that is only 1/4 showing, quite a painful one since its a minor surgery, and another tooth above my wisdom. Also, inserted one mini screw today. I hope it wouldn't hurt too bad after the anaesthetic wears off. I have 2 more tooth and 3 more minis to be inserted in 2 weeks time -.-" Bummer ! I wonder how long would it take for it to heal and remove stitches !
*
The last time I had my lower wisdom tooth extracted was a painful experience too and cheek "lebam". The pain stopped the next day and I could eat anything even though the cheek was still swollen but not painful. The stitches that I had melted away after a few days by itself... But for the wound to really heal, I forgot but healed bit by bit as time went by, I think took quite a long time but most importantly tak sakit! Hope you're okay dear!

May I ask the reason for having so many screws?

To me the screw is not the great problem but developing HUGE ulcers because of the constant rubbing between the head of the screws and my lip lasted nearly a week!!!! I am prone to mouth ulcer. I do a lot of things to get rid of it: pray, vitamin C, vitamin B exclusive incl zinc to heal, and drink a lot of water and the chinese watermelon powder, hurt like mad cuz 2 ulcers became 1 huge ulcer on my left, and right got 3 small and 1 huge ulcer... so you can imagine how bad it is... but now, they are healed... Thank God!

Shenay, my treatment started in May 2010. How about you?

kentcp: Thanks for the suggestion! mouth ulcer is a big problem kan!

NikkiDaTeddy: Ya I tried that but it was a bit sticky and messy and taste a bit weird... haha

Shenay: Maybe the condition of our teeth are different, hence, our treatments take place different time. Ya, thank God there's wax, my lip is okay now!

Xp3rT: Ya, I agree with Shenay. After awhile, you will get used to the gap between the upper and lower teeth that you will be able to chew using those teeth that touch like the back of the teeth... The stoppers have been with me for i think 3 months already and I can see the gap between the upper and lower teeth are lessen and I can talk properly now hehe...
