I am getting my braces next Tuesday. Can I know whether I am able to return to work the next day? Or should I take leave? How do you eat at work since not everywhere sells porridge?
*
I think most of us here resume back to work on the next day. It's not much of uncomfortable feeling. It's bearable. As for food, I eat noodle like keoy teow soup. It's smooth n slippery so it's easy to swallow. Dun go for beehoon yet cos it's too fine. U'll hv difficulties to find ur bite.

Basically waterer u wanna wanna eat such as meat, veggie, fruits... Just dice it n chew slowly. Rice is not a prob but rice will get stuck between ur teeth.

hi fellow bracerians

plse enlighten me-
1.if 6k is too xpensive for metal, wat is a reasonable price?

2, wat other types are there?

3. wats the difference bet  damon,ceramic,lotus-i see these terms on the thread but dont know wat they are.
urgent cos dentist has put separators..going back next week for braces!
tks
*
Will try to answer ur questions.

1) reasonable price for traditional metal braces shud not be higher than 4.5k

2) plenty. Depends on the clinic u go to, wat systems they offer.

3) Damon is a brand. Offering different versions. Eg: Damon 3, lotus & more n more for upgraded version like BMW 3, 5, 7 series.
Of course Damon offers metal n ceramic systems too.

To clarify u, some of us here that uses ceramic, are referring to In-Ovation. Which is another brand.

Discussed this too many times. Some pals are will be bored wit my explanation already. Anyways, pls correct me if I'm wrong.

For this part,Lotus not the upgrade version for Damon..Lotus is another brand, also same as damon self-ligating metal braces..
The version of Damon are Damon 3,3MX and Q...as u said bmw 3,5,7series. laugh.gif
*
So des... Now I learn that Lotus is another brand, there you go, andisoh.

So there are traditional non-ligating, self-ligating. Other than these, there are also lingual braces and invisalign.

NikkiDaTeddy, during the treatment to correct gummy smile, did Dr change the power chain during every appointment?
*
Yes for me. I only accept transparent powerchain and it will turn yellow after a week or two. I dun mind the yellowish tone. Rather have yellow looking teeth than Grey, green or blue at it. brows.gif

NikkiDaTeddy, does it hurt for you everytime doctor change the power chain? I am so afraid of pain actually... and just had the screws in lately...
*
I'm sorry, yes...it hurts. But just endure and bear with it. Be calm and let doctor finish it. When its done then u're ok edy. No matter what, just close your eyes and pray it finishes soon. Be calm cos if doctor need to redo it, then u have to go thru the pain again.

U hv my full support too. I had my braces when I was 27 years old. Turning 29 this year n I'm still under treatment. I get tease too but I dun care cos I hv become more beautiful by day.

At times I get teases also, but it don't bother me cos I know I hv better teeth than them. As for attractiveness, I tell u, many guys that I met told me they like girls with braces, n they find me attractive.

As a late 20's working adult, many of my clients/suppliers tot I look way younger. Probably bcos of the braces!

Now, I will make comments on those with ugly teeth. Find guys with messy teeth is a disaster! Haha...

Since wearing braces, many ppl around me told me they wanna get their teeth done also. Some older colleagues asked me abt it n thinking to get their childrens teeth fixed also.

Dont worry, keep logging in this forum n u will find supports n encouragements here.

Ps: kissing with braces is not a prob at all.

Thanks for your reply kent. I've been feeling very down today, don't know how much more I have to go through, and there's no one to rant to because they don't know the uncomfort. But its true, the side of my mouth hurts so bad. It will be okay in a weeks time ? Besides wisdom extraction & screws, later on, what else will hurt more than this?
*
Sorry to hear that. For my time, I dun feel so much pain during the healing process. I feel more pain during the extraction when the anesthetics is over.

The hurting is bcos of ulcer? If ulcer, then try to put dental wax over the screws to prevent scrubbing.

Take care on oral hygiene, gargle with mouthwash. The healing will be faster.

Hey Nikki, maybe its just my mind, when I keep thinking of how I have those stitches in my mouth and the screw is so bothering ! I have the extraction and screw on the same side, so I can't pinpoint which one is giving me the swelling. I must admit yesterday's process wasn't painful and even until the anaesthetic wore off.

However, I just dont know how to go through that again, extract 2 on my left side & insert 3 screws. Its like a tougher battle you know! And I have to do this by late feb because then my uni starts. So dilemma. I dont think I can do my next extraction in 2 weeks time  cry.gif :' Even now when I swallow food, I can feel a lil bit of pain near my throat, where the wisdom was extracted.

Heh I'm trying hard to keep up with good oral hygiene but I'm so afraid to brush the screw & shakily I manage to attach wax to it this morning! Oh God, please tell me I'm a sissy and that I need to be more brave !
*
I had my screws (2's) in together with 2 upper tooth extraction too. But it wasnt wisdom tooth tho. A month later, i remove another 2 lower tooth. Abt few months later i remove 2 of my upper wisdom tooth.

I didnt get swelling face too. Maybe i was lucky? IF ur normal brush is too harsh to brush on the screws, try soft or baby brush? Softer, then u should feel better too. smile.gif

Just pray and it will be over soon smile.gif

*
Hey kentcp, There is also the cream given( actually hav to pay la) by Dr.How...

It helps the ulcer to heal faster too but the taste and texture is very funny la.

No worry on all your previous issue. Dr. How have good facility, they have another suction pipe place inside your mouth to suck away all the water, so you will feel comfort during the filling.

Few days ago, i just went to Dr. klinik due to one of retainer broken when I try to remove it on morning. Dr. How is not around, so, attended by Raymond. He is another nice guy and patient to explain what and how he going to do. He is expert on filling, as i have a small gap on side, caused the food always stuck. He said he has confident to resolve it with remove out my old filling and remove with the "teeth color" type of filling and it done perfectly.

Bear in mind, not every dentist can do braces. The persons who help patient install braces must study the orthodontic and get certified. However, there is some dentist may just study but didn't able to pass the certified exam, still perform the work. This is the risky to the patient. Some still not enough experience, as this kind of work need a lot of case study and experience. I trust Dr. How because he been did more than thousand patient and many year experience. Besides that, during my conversation with him, his study result always on top score. Nowaday, he is busy not only in malaysia. Some other country also invite him to provide workshop and training, etc.

I believe this is why he bring in Raymond. I don't have much info about him but i am happy the way he did on my last visit.
*
Yah, I agree that Dr. Raymond is a patient and gentle doctor. The last time he fixed my loosen bracket, I don't feel any pain at all.

Nikki & Tomatonz, do you guys really eat normally and comfortably with the mini screws on ? For me, even until now (after 2-3weeks), I still can't really chew on my right side (where the screw is). God, I don't know whats gonna happen when I insert one more on my left side. Totally no need to eat already !
*
Ya mine was installed in front only. I think Kencpt was the one wit four screws.

Tomatonz & Nikki : Oh no wonder you guys have no problems eating !! My screw is inserted at 45 degree angle in between my last two back tooth. These are the tooth I use to chew meat and all. So when I start chomping, the hard meat will hit the top of the screw and I'll feel the pain !

Tomatonz : Haha it's doing good at all times except the eating part. I hardly get ulcers from it, so I do not use dental wax ^^
*
I went to dr. How last week to fix my loosen brackets. Then doctor told me that he will move my screws to the back. I dunno whats the purpose for that tho.

To close gaps? Or to pull back somemore my overbite? I'm stil not too sure wor.

Since Shenay says that it causes problem while you eat, now I'm worried. Sigh.... Oh well, if really can't eat well then i shall treat it as diet program.... sad.gif
