Tks niki n anespian for ur feedback.

Ken, did ur bracket ever loosen?

Tomatonz, I believe I've read somewhere before tat Damon doesn't necessarily mean extraction can be avoided. Depend on individual's case. If one's teeth r too crowded n his jaw is too small, extraction is a must otherwise the teeth cannot move to d correct position.

Dr told me he has to pull out my 2 upper teeth to correct my overbite. But he wan me to wear my braces for some time b4 he extract. I asked him y n he said he wan the teeth to loosen up abit 1st. Then when he pull out later, I will feel less pain. I've seen my fren who had her teeth pulled out b4 put on braces n she was in pain for days. So pity her.

Luckily my lower teeth r not crowded so can save 2 teeth smile.gif

I hav 2 more days to enjoy my apple, pear n potato chips..The only consolation I hav is tat I'll manage to get rid of my spare tyre after tis...
*
U can still eat fruits and almost everything. But make sure u cut ur apples and pears into small pieces b4 u eat. Dun bite straight from the fruit. Potato chips? no prob at all...

Fried Chicken, pizza, burger? U will soon find ur way to eat them... Key point is, cut them into smaller pieces...

But try to avoid hard food like, deep fried ikan bilis (pan mee or nasi lemak), deep fried yao char kwey, deep fried sotong or chewy food like beef and lamb. Cos u need a lot of effort to chew this kind of food and it will caused ur brackets to fall out. That's how it happen to me...

Again, I forgot to ask Dr about this question. Some doctors will do braces for top and bottom teeth on the same day. Some will only do the top bit and after few months baru start the bottom part. Like me, only top bit is braced at the minute... I wonder if anyone has asked Dr about it if you have such experience? Is there any reason to this?

After the teeth extraction, my gum is really itchy... wanna scratch but cant... the feeling is like when teeth are coming/growing out... u guys got such experience? ai... it doesn't hurt, it's just itchy...
*
Mine was two months later then only install bottom. Mayb doctor just want us to slowly get use of the braces, instead of putting everything atone go. Less painful also ma...

hi everyone! i'm officially a lotus bracesian now! yup, i've chosen to trust dr how n go for lotus. attached is my pic.

btw, notice the white color thing glued to my archwire between the 2 front teeth? anyone noe wat is tat? i din ask dr/nurse cos i din look at myself until i left the clinic. i was scared to look at myself  biggrin.gif

the bonding process was fast n painless (except for one moment when dr pried open one corner of my upper lip). i started to feel a little discomfort after 8 hrs later. is it going to get worse?

ohya, i guess my initial plan of sticking to only soft and "non-messy" food can be dumped into the trash now. right after i stepped out from the clinic, i headed to bangsar village for my lunch n had a yummy plate of pesto spaghettini. after meal i dare not open my mouth at all until i reach the washroom safely. gosh, the amount of pasta and greenish stuff (the pesto sauce la) tat i rinsed out of my mouth is so shocking!  ohmy.gif
*
I hav the white thing too....i didnt ask what was it. But my guess....its to proctect ur lips from getting cut/rub by the wire??

u mean we dun have to take out the wax when we eat?

i have the same problem with the wire at the back.. it's starting to poke me too  sad.gif

Added on June 28, 2010, 9:06 pmbtw, is it tat we're not supposed to eat food tat requires chewing in the first week after braced? it's my 3rd day today n my teeth are feeling quite weak especially when i chew. i had only porridge and mushroom soup until now (after the pesto spaghettini  tongue.gif ) but now i'm reali reali craving for my indomie... *sigh*
*
Hey dear.... is not that u're not suppose. U can eat if u manage to. We suggest u not to eat solid food bcos most probably ur teeth will be weak. Just like most of us. Some may feel 'no pain' or 'no feel'. IF no feel, why dont eat? If u feel sick of porridge, eat noodles like keoy teow. It's smooth and easy to swallow.

All noodles should be ok, like pasta, dry mee or soupy mee.... Rice abit mafan cos will get stuck in between brackets easily. Steaks and all requires chewing so maybe ur teeth wont have the 'strength' to chew also...

Hi kentcp, great to hear that the screws are working!!

I read about your previous posts about gummy smile and you needed 4 screws if i'm not mistaken right? Dr said I need 2 screws on top.

Erm, just curious, has it shorten your upper gum but the height of your exposed teeth still the same? Or your teeth height becomes longer liao because the gum is forced to go up or something.. haha, hope you can understand...

And what is the screws for? To put rubber band?
*
If u hav already some of the previous post, u would hav know tat i hav those screws also. I have 2.
And u're right, the screws are for the powerchain (not rubberband) to hang on. Hook on the brackets and pull back to the screws. Its like it will flatten ur gum abit.

Most pobably dr will use transparent powerchain so its not so obvious lo. But transparent powerchain stained very easily...

Hi NikkiDaTeddy, oh yes, I remember now that you have 2 screws! Thanks for the correction about the powerchain... I see how long have you had the screws for if you dont mind me asking? Did it hurt when you first had them and does it hurt now as well?
*
I have those screws on since dr. extracted two of my upper tooth. Cos since he need to use anesthetics ma so together lo. With anesthetic, u wont feel anything at all. I was watching doctor's hand turning and screwing in and i dont feel scared. In fact teeth removing was more scary.

And then u most probably wont feel any pain from the screws also...mayb just numb feeling. And When its still new, u'll feel funny cos there are two new dot behind ur lips. Imagine, u hide two rice there....

karynkhoo: Haha! Ah I think my wire was cut by Julia too, not so sure...

NikkiDaTeddy: Oh your treatment came quite fast ya. Unlike mine, so far it has been 2 months wearing upper braces and only had 2 teeth extracted. Maybe cuz everyone's teeth condition is different and the treatment needed also different. However I will try to be patient... susahnya... haha... Oh yeah I read back your older posts where just had your braces, I think I am going through the same emotions - excited and wanted the teeth to move fast and see result instantly haha...

Yes yes... Keep up the spirit... Better late than never. I'm extremely happy with my decision to go for braces. Cos now i smile and laugh confidently without having my hand to cover my mouth. Although ppl says covering mouth is more 'lady'. But i just like to laugh without covering. Hehehe....

When i first consult dr. How, he told me 1.5 to 2 years. Coming Oct is 2 years for me. But so far he didnt say anything abt debrace. And i didnt ask.

Duration may extend a bit.. as for my case, my teeth got some tiny gap and caused food stuck inside sometime. Dr. How said cannot remove braces, else he can't help after debraces..  so, i been waiting month by month.. the gap seem reach a point that not really want to close.. I almost give up and accept the 98% result will do..wink.gif
*
Really ah? actually me too...the gaps just wouldnt close....sight.... i also scared my treatment will delay a bit. Cos of the gummy treatment came along...

I just got my lower teeth braced. Due to my condition, bite stopper is needed to prevent me from biting the braces. Aikss..i can't chew nor bite. I have to swallow foods now onwards. My speech is slurred cause can't close my teeths fully. Sigh! Do any of you share similar experience?
*
yes, talk and eat slowly. I always bite on my tongue accidently. Its painful and u get ulcer on that spot where u bit....awful experience

Hi there!!

I didn't know such thread exist, hehe.

Wanna share my experience as well.

My clinic is Jagjit Orthodontic Clinic in Klang (very far from my home). Paid, if I'm not mistaken RM5000 exact (only for the braces).

6 teeth were removed, 5 with normal extraction and 1 with a specialized surgery. All were done in a different clinic.

Right now, the braces is still on and it's been around 2 years now.

I had my appointment with my dentist last night, and he asked "How do you like your smile now?". I said I don't know because I didn't noticed anything, cuz each time I stared at the mirror, all I look for was any food bits/condition. But then after the appointment today, I had a looked at what he meant, and I saw that my teeth alignment has changed drastically, I'm pretty satisfied with the condition now.
Hey, you know what, I always carry a brush specialized to clean the brackets, everywhere. The size is smaller than the pinky finger and has a cap on. The brushes are aligned in vertical direction, so it's not like a normal brush.  Maybe you should think of carrying one? It's very handy cuz of it's size. Hope that helps cuz it helps me alot especially in "critical" moment if you know what I mean.

Regards
Damien

The brush that u were referring is called inter-dental brush. The nurse would recommend patients to buy it most of the time. Yes, it is very useful for cleaning stuff from 'difficult to reach' place. They are quite pricey tho. Can find some cheaper ones in Daiso but not very good in quality.

However, for quick-fix when tiny bits stuck on ur teeth, can use toothpick. They are cheap and quick. Especially when u need to excuse urself in the restaurant. I carry toothpick with me all the time. I just saved my friend that day for offering toothpick to her. She is not wearing braces but just that she has black pepper stuck on her teeth. smile.gif

guys, i'm asking whether you guys use the Oral B toothbrush for braces too.
i was trying to find it in watson and guardian but failed to.

any idea where i can find it other than the orthodontic clinic itself?

thanks.
*
Yes, very difficult to find. Whenever i see, i will stock up a few. Previously i bought from Guardian at Desa Sri Hartamas. U can also try Caring Pharmacy at Bangsar Village. I remember seeing it there before.

Tks folks. I guess I panicked abit. After I asked d nurse again, she told me it's not a big prob coz it's only my 1st wire n I haven't extract any teeth yet. So I guess my braces is only meant to loosen up my teeth in preparation for extraction. Only after my teeth r pulled out, d alignment will start to take place. Therefore I opt to fix it at my next appt which is next tues evening.
Now tat I think of it calmly, could my wire broke becos I ate a burger last nite? It's my 1st attempt at burger since I wore my brace. But my braces was alrite until tis afternoon when it suddenly snapped. I wasn't doing anything at tat time.. not eating, brushing teeth or rinsing. Not even talking. I was sitting in front of my pc quietly doing my work n it snapped just like tat. So scary!
Tis teach me a lesson. Never ever eat a burger again until I'm brace-free!
*
Personally i dont think its caused by eating burger. Cos if really is bcos of the burger, it would hav snap right there and then. Like u said, u wasnt doing anything then it snapped. That happened to me b4. Probably just bcos your teeth were moving and to the certain extend, the glue cant hold anymore and just snap.

No worries..

Sigh. I went for second extraction today, and the dentist told me I have jaw-locked.
When I open my mouth very wide, then can hear the 'click'. That is jaw-locked. Why I have so many problems one. Sigh.

After extraction, now can't open my mouth too big.
Next week, two more teeth to be extracted.
*
if that so, is there anything to be done for jaw locked? Let it be or how? I remember last time I hav tat prob also when I was a kid. Den I didn't do anything to it and it became back to normal....

thanks
but i would like to hear from those whove got braces, gone for all the follow-up visits n what not n boght all the stuff required n now have taken them off-from beginingt to end, how much did it cost altogether?
*
Let's say doctor quote u 6k. Tat will be the cost for braces installation plus two yes duration of monthly visit n services. Can pay by installment. Once finish paying but treatment not complete yet, doctor will not charge u. Unless extra treatment needs to be done. For eg; extraction, scalling. That 6k also exclude x-Ray n molding.

So do the math, it can add up to 8k maybe by the time u finish.
Also note tat, rubberbands are FREE. Hope tat helps.
