White_tulip,
Why you so naughty??? Remember that your brackets falls easily? Hahaha... Prosperity burger too chewy for u...hahaha...
Anywayz, Its been one month plus for you? How's is it going? See any improvement yet?

I have something to share... I had my lower jaw installed for 5 weeks and 2 days only, i see very obvious movement edy. I didnt know until i compare pictures just now. Hehehe...So happy...
*
Uhuk! Prosperity sold once a year only... no matter wat, i'll try to eat that... even a bite of it is enough to fill-up my crave... am i sound so kesian? hakhakhak... but u know wat, with bite stopper installed, i found that it is easier to chew food... chew with bite-stopper (since it is damn keras) 3-4 times then swallow... without worrying so much if i bite so hard on one of those brackets... laugh.gif ...most of us dont like bite-stopper, but i kinda like it... im weird hahahha hmm.gif

Yeah, its been a month and 2 weeks now... i saw improvement during a month after installing braces... since my teeth are well-aligned top and bottom, so the major improvement i can see is my protruding tooth on upper part is pulled in... i did compare my photos from front and below teeth... i was so happy to see the improvement... just now i compare again and it is wayyy better than before... i'll find time to compile all photos and post it here... love my braces so much...

Same goes to lower part... but now since i've partially done with extraction, im eager to see improvement where the gap will get smaller n smaller... imagining how braces do its job and im amazed to see those teeth move and slowly close the gaps... thumbup.gif

Congrats nikki... rclxms.gif oh yeah, do u still have ur bite-stopper installed?

Kentcp, when r u going to debrace urself??? Cant wait to be at ur stage... errr, what happen to other ppl in this forum? so silent tongue.gif

Wow, i started my treatment b4 you and u alreday had ur teeth extracted. I think your treatment will complete way b4 me. But no matter what i'm glad. Cos my 3 months treatment now allowed me to witness the progress. Tho they are not well aligned yet but i see major improvements.

Even until now when i look at my before treatment pictures, i still get a shock on how horrible my teeth was. I regret that i only accept the treatment now at my age. That is my only regret.

Since the day i installed my 'new accessories', I never live a day not loving them. And i love the pain cos i know they are doing the job. Hahaha...
*
I started my treatment on Nov '08, few months after u... I think Dr. How asked me to extract teeth bcoz i dont have prob with my teeth alignment, they r all straight n nice... he said after extraction, he will start concentrating on pulling in my protruding teeth (yeah, ppl used to make fun of it)... and for that, i think thats why i extract teeth earlier than you... i had my braces installed both upper n lower jaw at the very same day... now, im not ashamed to have a wide smile and showing off all my teeth accessories... im getting used to it... but i just dont like when the first time frens or relatives discover my braces... im tired to answer all paparazzi-like questions and comments... huhuhuhu...

Oh yeah... nikki... just to tell u ahhh... last wiken, i had prosperity burger... kehkehkeh rclxm9.gif . But i dint bite it, instead, cut it into smaller chunk and chew slowly... tadaaaaaa... phew... finally... thank God...

QUOTE(kentcp @ Jan 10 2009, 02:43 AM)
White_tulip, debrace ah... not sure le.. i asked Dr. that day.. he said" you are happy with your current condition already ah ?" i just smile and answer.."no la.. i just feel troublesome when having food..all the food stuck at my braces".. that's all. (my mind thinking, let you adjust to the perfect possible la..) i think may be few more month or a year.. i don't know le..
*
Yeah, we have spent alot for braces, ofcourse the Dr. and most importantly us, we want the result as perfect as possible... hehehe... nvr mind la kentcp, sooner or later, we will debrace ourself... looking forward that moment to come... brows.gif

QUOTE(jayyen @ Jan 12 2009, 03:23 PM)
Nope. In my case, no extraction is required. From what i understand from my ortho, he mentioned that there's normally no extraction needed if you use the Damon system. But that varies with different individuals who uses the Damon type. Extraction will be needed if your teeth condition is wayyy to crowded..This is to make space for your teeth to move.
*
QUOTE(leng_leng @ Jan 12 2009, 04:18 PM)
My extraction is on this THurs!!  rclxub.gif

Hmm...my Dr. said i need to extract 4 teeth but she didnt mention that Damon doesnt require to extract so much unless the condition is too bad. Cos at that time I havent decide which type of braces I wana do...  unsure.gif

Hope no extraction need to be done for me ler...  sweat.gif
*
Too crowded, too bad, too serious (define serious tongue.gif ) are probs where Dr. will decide whether to extract teeth or not... another thing that a Dr. looks for is how wide ur jaw is able to accomodate all teeth... my ortho said my teeth are consider not serious, but my jaw is too small... so he gave me 2 options where (1) install screw but teeth gap I will get is max 5mm only, and the result will be just a normal one, or (2) extract 4 teeth, and the result will be superb...

Thus, i chosed the 2nd option... it is like, sacrifice 4 teeth to save the rest of my teeth biggrin.gif . I use the same technology like Nikki had, In-Ovation C, which is similar to Damon technology, but that doesn't guarantee u not to extract teeth... my ortho told me so... but still, options are there... even tho ppl out there commenting why i wear braces in the first place bcoz they said my teeth are already nice... actually i just wanted to pull a bit my protruding teeth on the upper part... so by extracting teeth, gap will be like 8mm so that my teeth will move better compared to if i just install screw where the max gap will reach 5mm only... this is my case-lah... however, conditions may varies to diff patients... let our Dr. suggests the best for us... and based on that, we decide on how we want our teeth to be...

So no worries leng_leng... choice is urs... and dont be too scared... that u might stiff ur mouth muscle... just relax a bit n everything will be just fine... if u r too scared, just close ur eyes, dont even look at all the appliances. After that u wont realize that ur teeth are already being plucked... smile.gif . I cud guarantee u, during extraction, u will discover no pain at all... thumbup.gif

Definition of serious? When i went to dentist, she said serious. As for Dr. How.... i dont remember him saying the SERIOUS word. But he looked serious. hahaha... but judging from all the work and procedure i have to go through, i assume serious. U may refer to my pictures... hehehe...

U will see improvements. And i only had it for 14 and a half weeks. I installed my upper first in early oct 08. Just a month b4 you.  icon_idea.gif
*
Heh i was kidding about serious definition ler... but when u mentioned about Dr. How looked serious... quite funny... hehehehe... but he is cute! biggrin.gif

Yerp, i did see improvement... i did mine nearly end of Nov '08... as i told u before, i saw improvement a month after installing braces... showed it to other frens... they r so amazed with the changes... since alignment is not a prob, i hardly see another improvement other than the protruding tooth goes inwards... and the hole from extracted teeth getting smaller n smaller... but time to close its gap may take time... i'll wait patiently... we'll wait patiently... sweat.gif

Nikki, when r u going to extract ur teeth? next weekend? or u did it? if havent extracted yet, good luck hor... smile.gif

Heh... they asked why wear braces if ur teeth arent that bad in condition... and u gonna extract 4 healthy teeth... why spend so much money for braces which u dont need it, yada yada yada... and the question goes on and on and onnnnn... asking not in a supportive manner but more to sarcastic way... well, im kinda immune with those questions now... n whenever i feel like quitting the conversation, i just say that i have so much money which i dont know where to spend at, so i made up my mind to put on braces... then i smile.gif . so far it is enough to make my nosy frens shut their mouth... biggrin.gif . im baaaadddd... tongue.gif

I advise u to eat bfore extraction... bcoz after that u wont feel like eating due to the taste of anaesthetic chemical... and u gonna be busy standing in front of the mirror looking ur mouth to see the jelly-blood, the extraction hole... spitting and praying for the numbness feeling gone... all u know, u wanna sleep soonest possible... smile.gif

I think ur Dr. decided to extract only 3 teeth due to the nature of ur current teeth... by extracting 1 on lower part is OK to make ur lower teeth symmetrical enough... good for u leng_leng...

So u only cabut 1... the numbness shudnt be that much... thumbup.gif

The bleeding part... the blood is jelly-like or a normal blood? mine last time was jelly-like... maybe my ortho injected some chemical that make the blood "frozen" wink.gif... urmmm, try to eat/drink something cold for the time being... and nurse said dont spit too much bcoz it will trigger more blood to come out from the hole ( hmm.gif )... hope it works...

After that i went to few island trips for snorkeling as well biggrin.gif As well as some hiking trip.

Just go ahead, be caution on your braces will do. smile.gif

True true... exercise while having ur braces on wont harm u... but extra care is needed especially for activities that have contact with so many ppl and hard equipments...

But few days after extraction, just make sure u dont do any hard work especially lifting heavy stuff... mine, 3 days after extraction, i lifted a heavy box contains a bundle of books, then suddenly when i observed the hole in front of the mirror, i found out that the darah beku came out from my left hole... i cleaned it then things back to normal... just be careful ya...

2 screws = Rm1000
2 decent teeth(surgeory) = RM1000
3 other teeth = Rm425

Total Rm2450

Not RM6500.. Haha.. I was shocked my ortho dr said RM6500..
Went for the extraction this morning, till now no pain at all.. when will the pain starts?
*
Wow, damn expensive... shakehead.gif

Usually the pain starts after anasthetic chemical has no longer effect... but the pain is bearable... the throbbing pain usually around ur mouth muscle near the extraction... but for some ppl, they had no pain at all... diff ppl have diff body condition... and how much ur body can endure the pain... it is all depends on individual...

Both my extraction hole are just like urs now... dark red in color... so i think its normal... it heals as day passes... smile.gif

Unfortunately im not staying at Wangsa Maju area... but i have a fren who did her braces (but metal traditional one) at dental clinic near setiawangsa... u may check one of those clinics...

Installment payments have been discussed and detailed out on previous posts... u may check them... but diff clinics have diff price n payment practice, n diff type of braces too... u may contact ur dentist for further clarification... they will explain to u... good luck...

I just did extraction, still bleeding now. Actually the gap for booth teeth is quite big for me. When looking in the mirror.. I have this felling : "OMG, did I do the right thing??"  sweat.gif I then looked at the extracted teeth..  cry.gif

Gosh, I hope I did the right thing.
*
Honestly, i do feel the same thing... when looking at the big holes, i wonder if those holes will close it gaps during the braces treatment... but looking at most successful cases and remember what my ortho did say, i believe that my braces will do their excellent job...

Extracting 4 healthy teeth is not an easy decision to make... i feel "pity" looking at my extracted teeth... they r sooOooo strong n healthy... but they have to "sacrifice" to save the rest of the teeth... notworthy.gif

I thought im the only one doubt the decision made... martiolativo, ur not alone... i do encounter the same feeling as urs... nod.gif . And i also believe our friends who did the extraction in this forum feel the same too...

Screw is installed to create spaces between teeth so that the rest of the teeth can move, align and fit themselves nicely... our ortho will decide whether we need to install screw, or extract a few teeth to create spaces... but there are cases where both extraction n installing screw need to be done on a patient... it is all depends on teeth conditions...

Other than that, the purpose of installing screw has been mentioned by nikki... so ur appt is today nikki? good luck ya sweat.gif

Hehe actually i have prepared that question to ask during my next extraction... but i found this answer from http://www.archwired.com/power_chains.htm

"How long does it take for the power chains and braces to close extraction gaps?
- Each person is different. Some people see dramatic changes in a few weeks. For others, it can take 6 months or more. Your orthodontist can measure (in millimeters) the width of your gaps at each appointment. You may be surprised to realize that the gaps are indeed closing, even if you don't see progress yourself!"

Hohoho... i pray so hard that after putting power chain, the gap will close faster...

But honestly, power chain is damn good. It really helps moving the teeth faster.

Ya ya... i still remember one of ur post saying that u had ur power chain installed but since it is ceramic u dint see it... i still dont have power chain until now... might get it very soon i guess... who knows maybe Dr How will install power chain on my lower jaw during the 2nd extraction... since u said the power chain is so hardworking, now im lookign forward to have it biggrin.gif

Dont worry, my dear. You'd encouraged White_tulip just now that never to give up ma. Same here... Power chain is nothing to be scared of. Seriously...

Girls, you know what? I started to get very irritated when outside ppl ask me whether its painful wearing braces. I dunno why... Maybe they dont understand. But seriously, its annoying. Of course its painful, of course its uncomfortable. But you'll get use to it. And after 2 weeks, you dont feel anything, anymore. Really... Whether can you eat properly... Duh, find your comfortable way to eat or just starve to death. then after hearing my experience, suddenly they say they wanna have braces also.

Sorry if i offended anyone here. I dont meant it for anyone here... Just some feelings towards ppl outside.... sigh...

Hehehe... this is one of the issue i'd been talking bfore... which annoyed me on previous post... i can understand ur feelings... the best thing is just to ignore then by smiling back to them showing our beautiful braces... hakhakhak...

hey guys..i posted a thread asking about braces before i got them on...all this while this blog is here..ceh...if only i found it sooner!

Anyway, i did my braces during CNY holidays (about 2 weeks ago) at Klinik Pergigian Aidil, Wangsamaju. Damon 3 Brackets (my ortho strongly recommended), rm5500 for the whole treatment. Paid rm1500 upfront and paying the remaining by installments. So far, not so painful, just feel the pressure now n then. My ortho warned me not to bite into keropok, hard food, etc. Hav to break my food into small bits too;n i've lost 1kg last week! But hey, i just focus my mind on my straight n beautiful teeth in the future n i feel no regrets smile.gif

Welcome to the club!

Anways,
Here goes my update...

I've done with my second extraction few days ago... it was 2 teeth on upper jaw... the extraction process was smooth and less numbness encountered... i wud say, blood came out heavier that last time... i slept early that nite after taking pain killer n anti-histamine... then the next day, blood stopped and things were just fine... thank God...

Separators have been removed... bite-stoppers are still there... its okay, i love my bite-stopper hahahha... and i had power chain installed on both front teeth... it feels a bit tight but im getting used to it... will see my ortho in a month time... my set of teeth has shown lotsa progress... again, thank God... cant wait to see more progress after this... icon_rolleyes.gif

What about others? This forum is pretty quiet now... i bet everyone is busy... tongue.gif

Hi all.... Im back with BRACES!!!!

Until now..the pain is stil bearable..duno how it will go on later la... sweat.gif

I dont really know how to brush my teeth ler.. last nite was my first time to brush it so abit kelam kabut cos I forgot the proper way to clean it as told by my doc  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
Btw do we need to brush in details in the morning?

What you all usually eat after putting on braces ya? I've juz taken infant cereal as my breakfast haha... Later wil cook porridge as my lunch.. For nutrition wise, hmmm it's really hard to take vege n fruits now ler... my teeth couldnt chew at all... everything goes into my mouth i swallow only..  biggrin.gif
Jayyen, woah you stil rmb wor...so sweet of you wub.gif
*
Congrats on ur braces brows.gif

I do brush in details in the morning... if i explain to u on how to brush teeth here, it might difficult for u to understand... i suggest u to find on how to brush ur braced teeth on youtube, as well as on any ortho site... u will get lotsa websites explaining on the proper brushing... i did surf lotsa website regarding it and it indeed, helped alot... thumbup.gif

I remember the first few weeks with my braces on, i hardly chew any hard food including rice... i took lotsa pasta and so far macaroni is the easiest type of pasta to chew... i think bcoz of the structure... i made it fry, or soup... for example, in the soup, u can add add egg tofu, egg, or anything soft... its yummy! And also i found out that eating noodles are easier as compared to rice... if i wanted to eat rice, i bought that malay "mini nasi impit", usually malay community serve it during hari raya... boil it and eat with fish, chicken, crab yada yada as substitute for nasi... or etlis, i asked my mom to cook rice softer... and all type of noodle, kuey tiaw, mee hoon, mee etc are among food that is easy to chew n eat...

And as for fruits, i had to get it blended, or make it fresh juice... so far i did on apple, star fruit, mango... it was delicious... but fruit like banana, u can eat it directly... but remember to cut it into small chunk, then chew slowly... and as for vege, u can cook it softer... no problem at all... porridge is good too... but i cudnt stand eating porridge day n nite... and nowadays upon hearing McD chicken porridge, i feel like uwekkk... ekekkeke... i did consume lotsa porridge during those days hahahahhahaha...

But after a month plus, u can start eating harder food like burger, fries, nugget, etc... no harm... just dont forget to cut it into smaller pieces and eat slowly n carefully... things will be just fine... dont worry... smile.gif

Now I dun feel that pain actually...alot better than wut I've expected... as my doc told me the few days after putting on braces is the most painful days... is juz that my teeth feel sour and numb and couldnt chew...

How do you eat when you are in work ya? it's kinda hard to get softer food outside rite? Luckily I'm stil jobless until today so I can cook myself at home and I think this is my fate for being jobless and having braces at the same time haha  laugh.gif

I believe in few weeks u will start adjusting urself with braces inside ur mouth... without u realize u can chew and feel as if nothing inside ur mouth... bcoz ur getting used to it... smile.gif

During work, usually i buy breakfast consist of any type of noodles... as i said, noodles are easy to chew... sometimes i bring porridge from home... sometimes i just buy bread/biscuits and eat with hot milo or tuna spread/peanut butter/nutella (nyum nyum)... if u feel bread/biscuits are a bit hard to chew, dip in hot drink until it soft, then eat lorrr... or instant oats... or bring blended fruits i prepared nite bfore... or sometimes i just buy papaya... or whenever i wanna eat outside, i always order meehoon/kuetiaw kungfu/ladna/fried... or pasta/lasagna at fast food restaurant... anything soft, chewable which can fill up my empty stomach... but thank God nowadays i can eat fried rice, KFC, McD, etc... then after work, i rush home and eat home made cooking... just be creative and frequently change food so that u wont get bored... and try to eat food that u think u can chew... then add it in food-i-can-eat list... to ur surprise, ur list will become longer and longer... nod.gif

U will get used to it leng_leng... dont worry... n do have fun eating so many foods with braces on! Just dont forget to brush/clean teeth after meal ya... icon_rolleyes.gif

I brush my teeth at workplace just like i brush at home... and for that, yes, i do bring toothbrush... i have 2 sets of toothbrush n toothpaste, 1 set at home n another one is in the office...

Yeah, fruit juice is yummy! Hehehe...

Btw, my braces is In-Ovation Type C... it works exactly the same way as Damon but the major diff is it is less visible bcoz it is ceramic one... mine is the same bracket as what Nikki had... smile.gif

Oh...okay tats more expensive rite? Btw do u feel very pain for the first few days wearing ur braces? If i didnt touch my teeth, I feel no pain but the tightness only... is that normal? rolleyes.gif
*
Yeah... the cost is a bit high... my ortho quoted me RM6.5K...

I cudnt say pain, but the tight feeling... yes, it is normal... usually for me the tightness feeling last 3-4 days only... sometimes it feels so tight the moment i left clinic after monthly appointment... sometimes the tightness feeling came 2-3 days after that... once a while, one of those teeth feel a bit pain especially during chewing food... but 2-3 days after that, the pain is gone... it doesnt cause me major pain at all... so far so good... but few days after braces is installed, i developed mouth ulcer... i think most of us face the ulcer prob at the beginning... but after applying ulcer cream and put dental wax on poking wire, ur inside mouth will "immune" and gets tougher to the brackets and ulcer problem wud definitely gone... smile.gif

Well, leng leng.... whatever white tulip mentioned are almost like my experience too.

Leng leng, dont worry...i think its normal. Every individual's pain tolerance are different. I didnt get those 'pain' that everyone told me also. I didnt even take the pain killer. Same like u, i only get numbness and tired gum feeling only. Then after 3 weeks, i basically more or less eat like a normal person. One week already i ate KFC. My bf also when he sees me eating burger and kfc. He asked me whether i really have braces on...
*
Ahahahhaha... im getting expert nowadays Nikki... know what, after next week it will be my 3 months with braces on brows.gif

Nikki is right... dental kit will be part of ur life now... my bf did send me a 2 bouquet of flower and one of it together with a lovely pocket mirror as for braces gift... he is so sweet lust.gif

My bracket loose 2 times before i had my bite-stopper... according to the ortho, bracket loose and broken wire are 2 common cases... but exactly after doc put the bite-stopper, i dont face any loose bracket anymore... thats why i said i love my bite-stopper... hehehhe... thank you Nikki notworthy.gif

Simply love my braces... and the feeling grows stronger day by day... wub.gif

White tulip, my doc didnt mention about the dental wax and ulcer cream wor... Can I get it from pharmacies or somewhere else?

Btw what is bite stopper ah?
*
U can try to ask ur nurse about it... usually orthodontic clinics sell those thing... otherwise, u can get it from other ortho clinic, or pharmacy... im sure they sell it...

Bite stopper? Urmmm... ur ortho will check ur teeth whether they touch ur bracket when u clench ur teeth especially during bed time... if they touch, then ur ortho will glue small bite stopper at upper jaw... it creates space between upper n lower jaw... so that teeth from both jaws wont touch each other... once bite stoppers are installed, u will find it hard to eat because of the gap created by the bite stopper... but somehow i love bite stopper... i wont worry about loosen my brackets... and since the bite stopper is hard, i can simply bite food with it... hahhaha...

Hope u get the idea...

I got my Inovation Ceramic at How's orthodondics on Oct 08 at 6k. That excluding x-ray, moulding, extraction and medications.  brows.gif
But just 2 months later, White tulip got hers from the same clinic at 6.5k. I guess the price increased? Why not u try calling How's orthodontic and see how much is it now? How's orthodontic - 03-2284 5529

Hrmmm... if im not mistaken, i installed my braces a month after u... or 2? cant remember... i did it somewhere 20+ of Nov 08... but i still remember Ronnie asked u, why u got urs 6K but he did about the same month with u, he got RM6.5K... i dont know how Dr How quoted that one... shakehead.gif hmm.gif

But In-Ovation Type C (ceramic) is 8K is way too expensive... mizzglamour, maybe u can try the other ortho...
