I just got my lower teeth braced. Due to my condition, bite stopper is needed to prevent me from biting the braces. Aikss..i can't chew nor bite. I have to swallow foods now onwards. My speech is slurred cause can't close my teeths fully. Sigh! Do any of you share similar experience?

I had bite stopper when lower teeth were braced. It's the toughest part of my braces experience so far because totally cannot bite/chew. Upper and lower teeth cannot touch each other. It's definitely much worse than having weak teeth n gum after bonding or adjustment. That only takes 3-5 days to start eating like normal.

As for bite stopper, I took 1-2 weeks to learn eating like normal. You'll slowly find your way... All the best!

I remember during my first consultation, Dr. How told me that if I want to extract teeth for braces, it might take >2 yrs for the gaps to close. I also wonder if extraction contributes to ur minor gaps.

Bite stopper is only required if u have overbite problem. If you do not have that problem, you don't need bite stopper coz even after bracing ur lower teeth, ur upper teeth won't crash ur lower brackets.

I've been having my braces on for 3 months now. Gosh, how time flies ! I had the blocker on initially, but due to my "rough side", I think they all have been fully broken by my chewing now. Hahah putting on the bottom braces didn't hurt as much as the top part and now I'm already eating everything ! The only terrible part is how the food always get stuck in between the brackets and I find that so uncomfortable. My tongue gets so tired from trying to push them out. But I'm happy that there's a slight difference already since all my friends said I look different & also I lost weight after bonding since I hate eating now !

Hi there!!

I didn't know such thread exist, hehe.

Wanna share my experience as well.

My clinic is Jagjit Orthodontic Clinic in Klang (very far from my home). Paid, if I'm not mistaken RM5000 exact (only for the braces).

6 teeth were removed, 5 with normal extraction and 1 with a specialized surgery. All were done in a different clinic.

Right now, the braces is still on and it's been around 2 years now.

I had my appointment with my dentist last night, and he asked "How do you like your smile now?". I said I don't know because I didn't noticed anything, cuz each time I stared at the mirror, all I look for was any food bits/condition. But then after the appointment today, I had a looked at what he meant, and I saw that my teeth alignment has changed drastically, I'm pretty satisfied with the condition now.

Hey, you know what, I always carry a brush specialized to clean the brackets, everywhere. The size is smaller than the pinky finger and has a cap on. The brushes are aligned in vertical direction, so it's not like a normal brush. Maybe you should think of carrying one? It's very handy cuz of it's size. Hope that helps cuz it helps me alot especially in "critical" moment if you know what I mean.

Regards
Damien

The brush that u were referring is called inter-dental brush. The nurse would recommend patients to buy it most of the time. Yes, it is very useful for cleaning stuff from 'difficult to reach' place. They are quite pricey tho. Can find some cheaper ones in Daiso but not very good in quality.

However, for quick-fix when tiny bits stuck on ur teeth, can use toothpick. They are cheap and quick. Especially when u need to excuse urself in the restaurant. I carry toothpick with me all the time. I just saved my friend that day for offering toothpick to her. She is not wearing braces but just that she has black pepper stuck on her teeth. smile.gif

Yes, I agree with NikkiDaTeddy about using toothpick...

I have been using inter-dental brush to brush some hard reach place but most of the time when I go out for a meal, i wont bring it with me. But my bf has a small bag of toothpicks stored in his car cuz he uses it after meals. Then I pun use it and find it very very handy than the brush haha... and not to forget, faster and cheaper...

guys, i'm asking whether you guys use the Oral B toothbrush for braces too.
i was trying to find it in watson and guardian but failed to.

any idea where i can find it other than the orthodontic clinic itself?

thanks.

Yes, very difficult to find. Whenever i see, i will stock up a few. Previously i bought from Guardian at Desa Sri Hartamas. U can also try Caring Pharmacy at Bangsar Village. I remember seeing it there before.

Thanks for the tip people. I haven't mastered using a toothpick properly cause its so difficult to angle it to enter the small gaps without hurting myself ! I like the little brush very much too smile.gif

Congrats leng_leng that you're finally debracing ! I can't wait for that moment too. Even now, I'm always impatient to attend my next appointment. hahah
