karynkhoo : i just bought a compact mirror with 2x magnifying mirror and LED light. super useful to check my teeth thumbup.gif

tomatonz & minchinini :

yeah, he did explained to me the difference. according to him, if i ask him last year which bracket system he recommend, his answer will be damon 3MX (btw, the damon 3 we talked about b4 is actually damon 3MX. dr said damon 3 has been phased out long ago, even its production has been stopped. damon 3 is half metal, half ceramic while damon 3MX is fully metal).

but as time progress, he found alot of problem with damon 3MX. as for lotus, he has tested many times on his patients and found it more efficient than damon 3MX. infact, he said lotus technology is similar to damon Q (the latest version of damon). but becos damon Q is newly released in the usa and the price is sky-high, he does not bring in damon Q yet. he said when we use lotus, we're like using damon Q but in another brand name. one more thing, becos lotus's company is not as well-known as damon's, they manage to keep the price low unlike damon which has been well commercialised & marketed.

so, minchinini...the price for damon 3MX and lotus is actually same...6000 for whole set.

he oso explained to me some technical details but i dun reali understand so i dun wan to repeat here in case i gav the wrong info. something to do with the locking system i think? hmm.gif

anyway, i'm happy with my braces and i dun think i look ugly with it  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
What I heard about the difference in locking system is that... for damon 3MX, when the treatment reaches mid-phase, it gets more difficult to unlock and lock the brackets, hence causing great pain to the patient (I've experienced that). On the other hand, lotus system is easier to lock and unlock.

tomatonz & hlee09: I've been using the same box of dental wax for >1 year n I've swallowed most of it biggrin.gif For me if I don't swallow it, 1 piece can last for 1 day. Don't really like the experience with dental wax. If you have the time, cutting it will be a much better solution.

tomatonz: I put on 5kg after having braces... What an undesirable outcome...

hlee09: I think it's normal for ur teeth to still feel weak on 3rd day. You can slowly try to chew something soft to get used to the pressure. Normally, I try to slowly apply pressure by biting teeth to teeth. I somehow feel it helps. After such training, I can eat normal food after 3rd day.

wah karynkhoo, dont scare me ah haha add 5 kgs...?? I think i know why if it happens to me... haha... because 1st week after tightening, cannot eat anything, but after the teeth and gums are stronger, ah then "Let the FEAST begin!!!" Haha...

Wow, you use the same box for more than 1 yr? Yeah i also sometimes accidently swallow the dental wax... is it okay ah for our health? Oh I had my wire cut off already today cuz it has been a nuisance and it was done by nurse there! You guys cut wire by nurse before?
*
Yes, u r right! BIG FEAST when my teeth are stronger. Even before they get stronger, I eat ice-cream and cakes biggrin.gif So make sure don't learn from me if you don't want to add 5kg tongue.gif

I not sure if there'll be any side effect if swallow too much dental wax. I believe anything tat's meant to be used in the mouth, should be safe... Yes, the nurse (should be Julia) just cut my wire for me 2 days ago. I think she has been working there for quite long.

I just got my lower teeth braced. Due to my condition, bite stopper is needed to prevent me from biting the braces. Aikss..i can't chew nor bite. I have to swallow foods now onwards. My speech is slurred cause can't close my teeths fully. Sigh! Do any of you share similar experience?
*
I had bite stopper when lower teeth were braced. It's the toughest part of my braces experience so far because totally cannot bite/chew. Upper and lower teeth cannot touch each other. It's definitely much worse than having weak teeth n gum after bonding or adjustment. That only takes 3-5 days to start eating like normal.

As for bite stopper, I took 1-2 weeks to learn eating like normal. You'll slowly find your way... All the best!

Mine is not.. just the movement of teeth and somehow some minor gap.. can't see from outlook but can feel it as food easy to stuck at that area..
*
I remember during my first consultation, Dr. How told me that if I want to extract teeth for braces, it might take >2 yrs for the gaps to close. I also wonder if extraction contributes to ur minor gaps.

Haha... U r really trying to keep record of our date of getting braced, then remind us of our anniversary? That's so sweet of u...

Oh gosh, after reading the posts about bite stopper, I think I need to prepare what might come ahead on my next appointment because I have a feeling my lower teeth will be braced...

karynkhoo: Haha, I just wanna have a bigger picture about everyone...
*
Bite stopper is only required if u have overbite problem. If you do not have that problem, you don't need bite stopper coz even after bracing ur lower teeth, ur upper teeth won't crash ur lower brackets.

Yes, very difficult to find. Whenever i see, i will stock up a few. Previously i bought from Guardian at Desa Sri Hartamas. U can also try Caring Pharmacy at Bangsar Village. I remember seeing it there before.
*
I just checked at Caring Pharmacy @ Bangsar Village. It's sold for RM9.90. Dr. How is selling it for RM9.

But mc or not, I dun reali wan to take time off my work. Better if I can go next tues evening after work. U guys think I shld wait? I'm freaking out coz tis is my 1st time n I duno wat to do.
*
Wire break? I never experienced b4. So far I only experienced wire come off from bracket or bracket come off. Wire break sounds serious... I'm not sure, perhaps you can call up and tell the staff about ur situation. If they think it should be fixed asap, ask them to try to fix an appt for u asap.

So far I never take MC for monthly appt. Normallly I go after work or during lunch time. Perhaps you can sneak out during lunch time.

Not bad, McD's Spicy Chicken McDeluxe is quite easy to rip. So i think its not the burger... tongue.gif But eat slowly dont rush urself.

Coincidentally... I also ate McD Spicy Chicken McDeluxe yesterday. It made my teeth feel a bit pain, they fried it too hard. Next time i'll opt for Fillet-o-fish. Much easier to eat.

Hi there
my folks are thinking of getting braces for my bro whose only 14.
must you really pull out good teeth?
what happens when the teeth moves when u forget to put on retainer? mean to say really back to square 1??
all that $$ n pain ...for nothing???
*
not all cases require extraction. it's case by case basis. my case is without extraction.

if forget to put on retainer, the teeth will move slightly, but not back to square 1, jst tat it won't be as perfect as right after de-brace.

Added on August 1, 2010, 10:21 amHi all, I would like to ask whether the front upper n lower teeth are supposed to touch/knock each other?

2 of my front-most teeth are knocking towards the 2 front-most lower teeth. Should I ask Dr. to fix it for me before my next appointment?

I'm at the fine tune & leveling stage now. Dr. How said I can de-brace in Sept/Oct. I've made appointment 2day to c Dr. My upper front teeth is knocking my lower bracket.

Nikki & Ken, Dr How estimate only. I still somehow feel my teeth not straight enough. Maybe I'm too fussy. Example, I saw my teeth, next to each other, not completely same level, around 1mm different. I wanted to ask Dr to adjst for me, but worry he'll scold, 1mm also wanna adjst. I've seen Dr How 3 times in the past 1 week. Bracket came off and front teeth knocking each other.

Added on August 3, 2010, 9:50 pmNow I feel very painful when I drink cold drinks or my teeth exposed to cold air. Is it normal? Or is it because my braces are adjusted too frequent recently? It's more painful than wisdom tooth extraction... Help...

It happenned to me before.. so, i change my toothpaste for sensitive tooth type.. it solved the problem after finished one big toothpaste..(~one month ++), avoid to take cold drink during "treatment" lo..
*
Now I can't even drink room temperature drink. Have to be warm or hot drinks. I can't even laugh, cause once my teeth are exposed to cold air, I'll feel very pain...
I'm worried that my upper front teeth are repositioned until too high, that they touches my nerve and cause damage to my nerve...

hi guys

assuming theres no extration, how much must we budget for throughout the approx 2yrs of wearing the braces?
i mean the braces,retaniner,visits ,etc

how has it affected your social life?

thanks!
*
It depends on the type of braces you choose. For my case, I chose Damon 3MX which is RM6000. It can be paid by installment.

Please refer to post #1 for a more detailed break-down of the cost involved.

Maybe you can complain about this to Dr. How during your next appt. So far, I was informed of any changes to my appt, latest on the same day. If I were you, I think I'll scold the nurses/staffs already.

I'm wearing Damon braces for about 10 months now and wondering if any of you have receding gum? Sort of like the gum line has moved upwards and teeth is more expose?

Another annoying thing is one of the bracket keep falling off, seems like the teeth is hitting the braces when I bite. And the dentist said it's getting difficult to glue it again when it's falling out so frequently. I wonder if it's a common problem.
*
1 of my bracket fell off >3 times and my ortho changed the bracket.

Do you get charged for the new bracket? Usually the bracket comes in one whole set?

I wasn't charged for the new bracket. I'm not sure whether the brackets only come with whole set or they do come separately.

Added on October 14, 2010, 11:32 amDr. How is having an apprentice/disciple called Dr. Raymond is it? Anyone have any latest info about this?

I went to the clinic to fix my loose bracket last week n Dr. Raymond fixed for me because Dr. How was overseas.

This morning I went for review, Dr. How was fixing hook on my brackets to hook rubberbands, then Dr. How passed the job to Dr. Raymond half way. Anyone has any idea who's this Dr. Raymond?
