Hi, suddenly bum in here.

I’m having braces next coming Friday.  1st consultation, my Ortho put 8 separators to move my teeth to give way for the band. She told me to extract 7 of my teeth (3 wisdoms & 4 molars).

I’ve extracted 2 teeth last week and 4 teeth last Monday. Guess what.. There's no pain at all. Thanks to my doctor. She done a great job.

People said, separator/spacer is more hurting than braces.. is it true?
*
ya wei, 7 teeth sound scary... but if that including wisdoms...thats fine i think...

about the spacer.s..no worries... its pain cos its tight... give it a few days then it will be fine already. I still have spacers at my lower jaw...

The wire at the end are getting even longer..... poking me like mad.. rclxub.gif

Just came back from appt. Dr changed my wire to thicker ones. Its 0.18 if i'm not wrong. Other than that, the rubberband (Used to be road runner but now is bear) are getting thicker too.

Immediately i get the tight feeling which i like cos i know the teeth will move very soon. Fortunately it wasnt painful today when doctor changed my powerchains. So it was a pleasant visit today.

Nikki and all, how do u all brush teeth when out for working? u all have toothbrush and toothpaste at the office? and does it seem very weird we brush teeth in the office washroom?

I will be starting my new job soon so gonna seek for advice frm you all... smile.gif
*
Honestly, in the beginning, i will brush whenever after meal. Soon, i just gargle.
Now, i dont brush anymore. I have a mirror, toothpicks with me and korek the food out from being visible only....

*Don't laugh...i know it sounded disgusting...

When i go out makan with friends, i will sometimes stuff my finger in my mouth to adjust the dental wax or my tongue will glide my teeth and etc... I know its not a very pleasant sight to look at. But i do it in the washroom, or bend down under the table and all la... Try not to let ppl see. Other than that, actually my friends and family all use to it and people around me understand my action. So they will tolerate me also.

To be honest, if u need to brush in the office. Its totally alright. Afterall, its good manner to brush after u eat. Rather than having food stuck at ur teeth right or not? I'm sure your colleagues would understand. Dont worry my dear, its not weird or strange at all. I'm sure they rather u using the toilet to brush teeth than seeing food stuck at ur teeth.

In my ex-company, some account managers also practice to brush teeth after lunch. Cos these are the people to represent the company to see clients. So they have to hav a good image. They even floss in the office ok?

Does all above makes you feel better? Dont worry la my dear. Every time after makan, u just bring out ur mirror to check ur smile. If u see food stuck in between teeth, just quickly go washroom and gargle to get rid of it first. Toothpicks are very useful. So have it with you. Then only go back office to brush lo. Other than that, avoid Fried rice and chilli stuffs lo... smile.gif Hope these helps

haha yeah i feel better...think i will put one in my office in case the food really couldnt be removed by using toothpicks... cool2.gif
*
Hahaha...dont worry la. Maybe later your colleagues respect you more because of that and soon they start to brush also? There is nothing weird about brushing teeth in office la. You're not picking your nose or picking your toe nails in office also... Be cool with it. brows.gif brows.gif

I need 4 teeth extracted for braces, but my orthodontist told me to put the braces on first and extractions later.
So, anyone heard of this idea b4?
Thanks!

Hi.. Thanks for the petua. I've braces last friday.. It take me time to adjust.. Yesterday.. i went to a restaurant. Hard for me to eat Nasi Goreng and after that lari to washroom.. the one that i can't stand is.. have to eat like a pengantin..  doh.gif

Honestly, i need lot of petua from all of you. My doctor gave me all braces kits but lot of pharmacy didn't have an ortho brush. Where else can i buy it... i used to brush after lunch/meal in the office.. Help please....
*
Yah, i agree with you that not many pharmacies are selling the ortho brush. Fortunately, the Guardian in Desa Sri Hartamas got. So, i just buy from there as its near to my work place. When i buy, i will stock up a few la. Cos we destroys the brush very easily, plus its not easy to find it everywhere...

Btw, just wanna share this, for those who are looking for the mini bristle (to clean in between brackets and teeth), u can get it from Daiso at the curve. RM5 for a pack of 4 or 5 bristles. Check it out. Cos if u get from watson's or guardian, it will be damn expensive...

Hie...welcome to our group!  brows.gif

After i've installed my braces it took almost 1 week for me to adapt it, first week only can take soft food, like porridge, potato, soft noodle, macaroni etc... and after tat I can eat like normal d...juz tat the front teeth has no strength to bite, thus have to chop into small pieces then use the teeth behind to chew.. Maybe ur nasi goreng cooked too hard? But I had pizza after one week putting on braces hehehe..but hv to chew slowly la..  tongue.gif

Why hv to eat like pengantin? Izit ur teeth stil pain? If pain then u better take soft food first, then slowly only try to eat harder one.. Trust me, sooner u will used to it so dun worry too much k? smile.gif

I think u can buy at ur clinic or i think phramacies is selling..i saw they're selling interdental kit but not too sure bout toothbrush cos i normally buy it when i visit my doc...cos cheaper ma hehe..
*
Is it really cheaper to get the brush from the clinic? I'm not sure. I only got my first set from the clinic. Then after that, i bought from outside. I bought mine for RM7++ for my ortho brush. What about you?

hi, i went for my first orthodontic appointment today to quote for the price for Damon 3. The doctor charges 6.5k for a duration of 2-3 years. And i was told that i may need to extract 4 teeth (2 upper and 2 lower) and also one of my wisdom teeth. I'm quite skeptical as no one has mentioned about having to extract so many teeth. Btw, my case is not very serious, so i don't know if she's doing the right thing. Is the price a bit too high? Like white tulip said, hers was only 6.5 for In-ovation C. Please advise. Thanks.
*
Mine was 6k for InOvation C from Dr. How. Since you have doubt for your current orthodontist, why not consult another doctor? I have to extract 4 teeth also even with InOvation C. Cos Dr says i have too many teeth for my small gum. So have to extract few to push everything in.

is it really necessary to get these mini brushes?
i am not using these brushes and i am only using a normal manual toothbrush coz my dr did not tell me to get any dental kit....
*
Hi there,
Its not necessary to get them. But honestly, using only normal manual brush wont be enuff. Initially, i was a bit lazy to use these mini brush (interdental brush) also. But i realise, normal brushes cant reach some area due to the brackets and wire blocking. So these mini brush will be useful. Its like those brush where people use to clean milk bottle. It can reach some area that other brushes cant. But these mini brushes are very small.

It can reach the hidden area to clean out dirt and also to prevent plague from forming.
See attached picture to see how it works..

Hey babe, i'm not using the type tat u mention (picture) wor... My one very short wan... almost similar with the pictures i attached. My first set was from Dr. How's clinic... Dun remember the brand name but i think its a japanese brand? I remember one senior here who she attached pictures of all the dental kits she's been using. Mine is the same as hers.

hi kentcp,

i'm new to this and I am planning to put braces. Am in my thirties and want something less visible and not so torturing (haha).

i noticed that u highly recommend Dr How. See, I am not a very kan-cheong person in terms of braces (haha). Don't mind slower progress but less pain and torture, so I've been hearing that Dr How is known for speeding up the process by fixing stop bites, teeth spacers, power chains, screws etc etc, which sounds like real torture to me. I just want normal ortho help to straighten my teeth, if with all these extra help, it take less than 2 years to complete, I wouldn't mind waiting another 1/2 year to go without the extra gadgets added. Do you think Dr How will accommodate this?

My assumption is most of Dr How's patients are either in their teens or early twenties, so they are rather comfortable with quicker results, never minds the pain, but since I am already in my mid thirties, I don't mind waiting extra half a year or so, if it's less painful smile.gif

What do you think? Or have you heard of other good orthodontists out there?
*

[/quote]

Sorry to interrupt.
Actually, i believe that you've been reading a lot from this thread. Cos you mentioned the things that we discussed earlier.

Well actually i understand your concern about visibility and the pain accrue. I think newer system should cause less pain + fast and good result. Compared to the traditional ones, Besides its time consuming, its so visible, painful and it might not give u the best results. Thats is why most doctor recommended Damon and InOvation systems.

MAster Kentcp is using Damon and myself is using InOvation. According to Doctor, these two are the same. Gives same results, same effect, same speed... Just different brand. But InOvation comes with ceramic bracket (InOvation C), which is transparent. The fact that its transparent, u wont look so mouthful with metals/gadgets...whatever u call it.

About the extra process that some of us did such as extraction, bite stopper, screws, powerchain... Some process are necessary no matter which doctor u go to or which system u will be using. But however, some will be optional. For example; Screws. Its an option for me. But i chose to get it although it sounded scary. Cos i want the bestest result and since that i'm already spending this much money and time for the treatment.

My dear, its not that painful like u think. Many ppl around me give me a face when they see me adding more and more stuffs into my mouth. If its not painful, that will be a BIG LIE. But, the pain will go away in 3-7 days. After that, u wont feel anything anymore. Before i had braces, i had this horrible image for wearing braces. Such as pain 24/7 - 365 days. Ulcers all over....ew... But to be honest, i only got a few ulcer so far throughout my treatment. In fact, i'm getting it less compared to the time before wearing braces.

Oh well...anyway...good luck!

That's so much cheaper than the orthodontist in Kepong that i went to. I'm still deciding whether to go for Damon or Inovation-C. As a matter of fact, I don't like the metal as much because it is pretty visible. Is Inovation-C much better in terms of aesthetics in comparison to damon? But i heard ceramic brackets tend to break easier and slightly more painful. Is that true? Kentcp, what is the duration for your braces? And did you need any teeth extraction?
*
Actually, i saw ppl wearing different types of ceramic braces. One of my colleague, is wearing ceramic but hers are different than mine from the way it looks. I didnt ask what is the name of it la. But its transparent. Her brackets are bigger than mine but lesser visible than mine. Ok, give u a clearer image. Her braces looks like this. http://ceramicbraces.blogspot.com/

And in comparison with mine, picture attached.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

And if i'm not wrong, my colleague's type takes longer time for treatment. Probably that's the easily break type? I'm not sure. I've been wearing mine since 4th Oct 2008. I havent had any problem with my brackets/braces. Whether i's suffering more pain? Arh....dunno...who can answer that? Unless for those who tried both type of braces before can answer. Haha..but doctor didnt said both braces are the same, just different brands. Actually we discussed b4 that Damon also got ceramic brackets. But it is not recommended by our doctor compared to InOvation.

About duration and extraction, I believe this depends on your condition, right?

Have anybody here using the 3M brand cause I’m using it. Like Kentcp said, the price might be different. I spoke to the nurse at my orthodontist today and she said that the price might increase again in a couple of month.

I took 3M clarity braces that cost me around 8k. It works like Damon and InOvation. Not all self-ligature suits for anybody. Some works like magic and some might take a long time. Like mine, early thirties, high metabolism.. after a week, my 2 lower front teeth have aligned itself. I know the price is more than expensive but I want the best result and services.

As i was extracted 2 teeth on upper right side during kids time... during this bracing process, i no need to extract any teeth for upper and lower teeth. I installed on Jan 2008, Dr said i should able to remove around aug time. Now, every teeth is straight , just doing some minor fine adjustment.

Yup, Inovation-C much better in terms of aesthetics in comparison to damon because it is transparent ceramic while Damon is using titanuim material. To me, i can accept damon because it is smaller than transditional braces. also, the material also look good (silver shine). Anyhow, Damon Q is even smaller.. technology..

Dear all

I've finally installed my braces today.. OMG..i went for my first consultation at dr how's, and he put on for me on the spot after the xrays. Quite shocking isnt it? Well, someone had cancelled his or her appointment after me, so he had enough time to do it for me..

Btw, i'm using the In-ovation C type. Nikki, i can join your gang now.. lol According to him, i don't need any extraction at all.. omg..the doctor in kepong said i have to remove 4 teeth! But he advised me to remove all my wisdom teeth, just to make sure that they don't give me any problem in the future. But he said it's optional as it won't affect the braces result even if i keep them.. i don't know.. i'm still afraid of extraction sad.gif I don't know how to brush my teeth now.. can someone guide me along?
*
Representing everyone here, we welcome you to join the bracesian group. Hehehe... So, how do u feel now?> Its not as bad as u think it would be right? I think the glue-ing and installation process takes about 1hr like that?

The nurse should have taught you how to brush. Well, if u're using the manual brush, just angle ur brush abit la. As in u brush left-right motion but angle ur brush. 45 degrees above brackets and 45 degrees below brackets. That's how the nurse taught me. I dunno why Leng_leng's method is different than mine. However, just by this method, it wont clean too well yet. You still need interdental brush to clean in between each teeth, gaps, wire, brackets... Did the nurse give you the interdental brush too? If no, pls refer post #950 for picture of interdental brush.

As for the your case with wisdom tooth, take good care of them. Dont let them rot or be infected. Cos they're life span is very short. If they rot or couldnt get out from your gum, u still have to extract them. Only whether is normal extraction or operation. IF they grow nicely out of the gum in good position, u can extract them normally without operation. But if they're stubborn and prefer to remain in your gum, then u hav to opt for operation. And bare in mind, operation is not cheap.

To Leng_leng:
You bought the brushes edy? cheap right> compared to what u can get outside...Actually, sometimes they will hav in different sizes wan... smile.gif
