Not so sure about custom ROM installs and returns, but what Xiaomi has taught us about the whole issue is that the end user might not even be the biggest issue. It's the shady resellers who have already gone to the point of creating "malware" ROMs (as you have mentioned earlier), under the guise of making China units "global" - hence Xiaomi's current "war" with unauthorised resellers (with their "online authentication" unlockers and firmware downgrade bricking). Which, while understandable, might be a tad heavy handed to me.
Thankfully, OP has decided that actually giving us the freedom to flash whatever we want with our phones is a better solution. And rightly so, as we can always switch to anything we want ourselves no matter what comes in the box, eh?
Well, back to my original intent, all I'm saying is while yes custom flashing still kinda sorta voids the warranty (especially with AP sets), it shouldn't be too much of an issue if you're careful, which you seem to be. So yeah, it's not really worth worrying about.
As for colour, yeah the Red one has a glossy back like Mirror Black. The depth of the color underneath is more like Silk White though, with shades of red, yellow and orange depending on how light hits it.
It's so nice, I would have gotten the Red myself if it came in 8/256 TBH lol.
I've received my OP6. Testing OOS for the first time........ the OS doesn't seem half bad, pretty decent actually. I might not need to use any custom ROMs. What do you use if I may ask?
I should also mention this A6000 either already comes with play, or google play was installed via an online google restore.
