i was in NSW for quite a number of years .. but those days definitely much more fish to catch compared to today for sure .. loads of breams and flatheads .. got silver trevally casting a waterbreakers as well .. that shark oso hooked at waterbreaker .. if u are bored with where u are fishing .. just drive around and look for more waterline .. surely can get fish .. super light tackle casting near sandy beaches can get whitting .. i got b4 .. as well as pomfret .. hehehehe |

    Added on May 31, 2007, 9:21 amHow to use BC 101 Now to set the right magnetic setting. Tie to a 8grams lure(practically anything above 6cm is 7~8grams), then set your magnetic brake is set to 10, and your tension knob(the stupid nut that Bro Chun lost it) to ensure the spool doesnt move sideways. I'll explain more on that later stage. The tip here is, as you cast, notice your lure....as it's about to touch the water, use your thumb to stop the spool fully. Otherwise, due to the sudden change of speed at your spool, the spool will overrun and cause you CBH. Then make a swing of, back to front with a minimal strength swing. You should be reaching 10m~15m. Do that for 5 times.... Then adjust your magnetic brakes to 8, and do the same strength swings again x 5. You should be getting 20m averagely.... Keep adjust the magnetic drag to lower the brakes(DO NOT PUT 2 or 0), until you get some CBH. NOW, the trick here is, tighten abit of your tension knob. Cast again for 5 times.....it's either getting lesser CBH or no CBH at all....if no CBH meaning that you have set the right setting for yourself. Otherwise, loosen the tension knob a little and adjust your magnetic brake +1 degree. Keep testing it again. REMEMBER NOT TO CAST TOO HARD YET! Increase your casting strength bit by bit...educate your thumb to stop the spool at the right point smile.gif TENSION KNOB 101. The tension knob is being used to tightened the movement of the spool by limiting the movement of the spool shaft. See graphic below.( |-| is spool, >>> is the spool shaft and |o is the tension knob)
Usually this is the stock or as new setting. In such if you noticed that the spool shaft is not touching/connected to the tension knob at all. In such way, it's either using magnetic brake or centrifugal brake to slow down the inertia of the spool gradually. But sometimes caused a minimal CBH. The spool will be able to move left and right bits.
Now, adjust the tension knob slowly to ensure that the tension knob touches the shaft a little bit.(HOW THE HECK I AM ABLE TO SEE THE CONECTIVITY OF THE SHAFT AND THE TENSION KNOB?????). This is how you check. 1: Tightened the knob bit and bits... 2: Then use your thumb to try to move spool to the left and right. If it moves, repeat step 1, until there are bit of movement. Just a few types of lures...
i would say accurate casting is very important, there's few ways of looking at it. 1. Diver based lures. Diver lures have bip or lips. The lip and aerodynamic of the lure determines what is the max depth that the lure can go. Seeing a steady splash, and you have to determine whether you can cast to the splash or not 1.1 might be too far and out of your coverage 1.2 cast to the left or right of the splash 1.3 if cast to far back, how far back you want it to be 1.4 how fast or slow is the splash 1.5 retrieving speed - fast or slow or twitch or jerk 1.6 and alot other factors which will contribute to your success 2. If popper 2.1 pop it fast or slow 2.2 loud or soft 2.3 small splashes or big loud splashes 2.4 pause and retrieve factor 2.5 direction of the toman after breathing 2.6 alot other factors as well. 3. if doggie 3.1 walk fast or slow 3.2 pop it or twitch it 3.3 what is the distance of each walk 3.4 pause and walk 3.5 and again, alot other factors as well. Here it cover 3 different type of lures, have not covered it all yet! - soft plastic - minnows - jerk or twitch bait - prop or flutters - sinking - rattling Added on May 31, 2007, 10:23 amHmmn.....WHAT IS DRAG?? What is Drag? Drag is the resistance that a reel provides in the opposite direction of the force applied. How is it measured? How much Drag do I need? No exact answer to this, use your common sense, the stronger the fish, the more resistance its going to take tire it out. A 4-5kg Ang Chor can take its own weight in drag for 1 or 2 short runs. How much Drag can I stand? Find your own limits. Heavy short people can take more drag, because of weight and low center of gravity. For most people weighting 70-80KG, 13KG of drag is pushing their limits, unless you're built like Mike Tyson and weigh as much as Akibono MAYBE you can take up to 20KG of drag. (A qualifier: I like to fish holding my rods, some fishoes I know leave the rods permanently in rod holders and set ultra heavy drags.) How do I set the Drag on my reel? Use a weighing scale. One common misconception people have about drag is that they set it to such an extent that the reel locks up, thats the wrong way about it. Set your drag such that at that setting the line is still slowly creeping out. Thats the max drag with free spool setting. Most people say set your drag to 1/3 your line poundage, personally I believe set your drag for the weakest link in your tackle, the fisherman himself included, or 1/3 line poundage, whichever is lighter. BUT~ there is some degree of slant as the lure does not lie flat on the water surface, but some is 45,60,90 degrees slanted. NOW on crank baits. I take crank bait as lures with lips. In short to say, when we retrieve, the lure will dive in due to the incoming pressure towards the lure and the lip(some calls them bip) moves the lure downward to cut the pressure. The depth of the lure is depending on the lip generally. But it is also affected by the aerodynamic of the lure travelling underwater to determine the actual depth. 1. super long lip - deep 2. short - med depth 3. super short - shallow  Pls disregard the center blue colored lure. The 2nd point to note about the lip is the ability to dodge the stumps or snags. Some of the lip is pointy, bigger on the end or having some part shaved off. There is no confirmation on the best one that can dodge all snags, but some general ones are good enough. STILL, the shape of the lip also determines the running depth. After the hook has been swallowed the fisher applies pressure to the line, pulling the hook out of the stomach. The actual curved shape of the hook keeps the hook from catching in the gut cavity or throat. When to use them Circle hooks can be used on any species of fish caught on hook and line. Current research is being done on billfish while commercial (grouper/snapper/swordfish) fishermen have been successfully using the hooks for years. How to use them Basic Rule: Don't impede the hook with bait; that is, don't put the hook in the bony portions of the bait. See picture below. Bottom Fishing For bottom fishing simply replace your standard hook with a circle hook. When a fish eats the bait allow time for the fish to completely swallow the hook before steadily reeling in the line. With the hook in the corner of the mouth the line is generally out of the way of the fish's teeth. Morning All,
Last week was good too...total landed was 4, 3 for me and 1 for bro KLMT. 2 are small ones like 1kg and 2 are kinda big.Unfortunately, no pictures with the fishies cos everytime we want to lip grip the fish, the fish always spitted the hooks...damn... But bro KLMT did says there are 1 or 2 shots of the fish when it's in the water.. Let him post the pic I have started to build my jigging rod, i'll share you the pictures shortly. |

The rod that i intend to build is a 2 piece jigging rod. The 2 piece as in handle 1 piece and the rod blank 1 piece. In such, the rod handle and reel seat will not bend due to the parabolic action of the rod. It's a PE3max rod. Very thin blank and thick wall, thus it can bend kaw kaw. I have yet to test the rod curve but i have tested it lightly. It's also a fast taper rod.
Bought the blank together with bro KLMT last saturday at Sykt Kepong. It's not an expensive blank but since it's thick walled, i dont mind purchasing it. I have completed the handle setup, have not done the guides as i have not purchased any guides yet. These are the pics.  This is the handle setup. A curvy top EVA foam handle, reel seat, slanting middle palm rest and curvy bottom EVA for comfortable 'ketiak' fitting + gimbal for biggies  H18ECS Fuji reel seat  ALPs gimbal  Heavy wrapping on the handle piece. Smooth graphite and spiral for stronger handle piece. Also completed the short wrapping.  The rod blank, fast taper and it's spiral upwards. It's not smooth and you can feel the small little bumps. I intend to maintain the rough surface. Not going to paint or wrap it. |

Talking about lure, i'll explain it more for you when we meet up for fishing and TT. There are plenty of variation of lures and not easy for us to explain it to you here. I have been building my rod since last year. Have designed a spiral wrapped BC rod, a heavy+duty PE6 jigging rod and have been repairing my own rods. I also have been doing some butt wrap on some of my purchased rods. It's nothing new to me, but if you wanna learn, i'll be more than glad to show you how it works step by steps I have not epox the rod yet as i have not completed the guides. Once i've done the guides and underwraps, i'll epox them altogether. It's the surface of the rod which you can see the graphite wrapping clearly. I wish to maintain the look, rather than closing all the rod's best features Yum cha or yum seng or dinner also can la..no problem with that.. To all, Since last week's TT have been cancelled, why not we make a dinner session for this week? We'll lepak at some nasi kandar place which is convenient for all of us. Talking about lure, i'll explain it more for you when we meet up for fishing and TT. There are plenty of variation of lures and not easy for us to explain it to you here. But you can refer to the old thread where i did a number of write up on the lures and how to manipulate the lures.Do share with us - for us to know you better 1. Where do you usually fish? 2. Bad news, bro Ice,
The 2nd boat is having engine problem thus it might not jalan Added on June 6, 2007, 9:47 amAnother alternative is to charter the boat which i was on for my P9 and Jarak jigging. Currently the Tekong(A Cong) have a new boat but the cabin is not fully renovated yet. I have just called him, he will revert is availability of boat to me at about 11~12. His boat is much bigger thus it can accommodate about 8 pax in a boat. Meaning in such that all of us will be in the same boat. The earlier booked boat was RM550 for 4 pax per day, and A Cong is charging at RM800 for 8 pax. He also mentioned that the casting for GT will only see result at 4pm till late as due to the current bringing the bait fish there. In the earlier day and afternoon we will be doing jigging and bait fishing. I have proposed a special spot to him as well which is the deepest part in P9 which is about 90m(270feet = 27 floor) and we shall do jigging there. Updates for 23rd June 2007 casting, jigging and bottom.
For the 1st boat participants, i have spoke to them and they are ok with the change of boatman. (Thanks to Bro Q, Bro Ho and Bro PK) We are practically GREEN for the change of the boat but have to wait A Cong to revert whether his boat is available or not..If it's not available then the 2nd boat participants are not able to fish due to the size of the boat. Sorry in advance ... For your information, the boatman A Cong is regularly featured in fishing magazines where they bring the magazine editor Pak Wong, Michael Meng and CS Fong(rod and line) for fishing and being recorded in video.... so let's wait for A Cong's confirmation if he have the boat availability |

Your Excia line cap is at 350/8 280/10 220/12, thus you can get any 30lb or PE3 lines and you will fill it with 300m liao.. Strongly suggest JigMan X4 PE3 line which is at the diameter of 6lb mono. It is with color which every 5m the color will change.. It's about RM100 for 300 meter.Either you get a pe3 or pe4 for future fishing as well, making the line multi purpose for jigging with the poundage and the 300m of line you have. You have go for jigging, casting, bottom and even popping. Long term investment lor. BTW, how much did you purchased the reel? |

Bro Ice,
Stren is about RM56 for 125yards which is 114m in a spool. You can also get a 300m spool and reel it in. Very good and reliable line, thin diameter and the braid is round type not flattened type. The disadvantage is that the line will fade in the first few rounds.. I bought the Daiwa CY and using PE3.5...not that kiasu..but since buying line might as well a slight higher poundage so that the line can be used all round in all fishing condition

price wise should be about the same laa .. if got diff oso prolly rm5 or less diff so no worth it to drive all the way to serdang to save rm5 .. hahahahaa
that colour colour line got fren landed 4-5kg talang b4 using freshwater setup ... hehehehe ... rated 30lb but i think equivalent to 20lb or maybe even less laa ... damm thin and can load alot into reel for sure la ... i might just put it into my size 2000 reel depending on how much line can go in laa .. then will be super light setup for saltwater liauu .. hahahahaa i retired from motorsports liau la .. for the time being laa at least .. hhehehe .. so no more vroom vroom for me .. |

Thank you for coming for the TT at Rabbit CAfe, unfortunately the girls are not in rabbit suits. I have something to do at home so gotta go home earlier to complete the errands. I'll be leaving either tonight or midnight to Kedah for the wedding dinner. Bro Ice, Thank you very much for the wonderful saltwater talapia. It taste better than the freshwater ones. And the chef, really knows how to spice the taste up.. Personal take for the food served. 1. Assam: Fabulous 2. Deep Fried: Fantastic with crunchy skins with ultra soft flesh inside. 3. Cha Yoke: Good, but i have tried better ones. 4. 4 types of vege: Also good, as the udang kering that is being used is big and crunchy, the aroma of belacan is hitting my nostril badly... Overall take: Nice place overall, quiet and homely ambiance, great food served and friendly server. Only that the table is kinda too small for us as angler...hahahahah...imagine if we bring some gears along....hahah |

Good news to the anglers going to P9 on 23rd June 2007
I managed to book Talang(A Cong's ex boat) but will be driven by A Cong. For those who have been on the boat, you guys should remember how the new boat stability and cleaniness. A Cong bought the boat, used for less than 10 times(i participated in 3~4 of the fishing) and then sold it off. He purchased a bigger boat with cabin. Talang does not have cabin but very spacious and a wide deck for popping and jigging.I remember using a 8 feet rod with 150gram popper at the front deck. IT'S CONFIRMED FOR THE TRIP! For those who is participating, please prepare your arsenal. Me and few anglers will be shopping on the 13th of June at Kepong, do join us for shopping or TT. As usual, i'll be selling the jigging assist hook, i'll share with you guys later on the reason. Added on June 7, 2007, 9:53 amAs said earlier, usually in a jigging trip i'll sell some jigging assist hooks. The reason is simple, need not waste or spend extra $$ for the hooks. A pack of good quality assist hook(prepared) is about RM20 or more for a set of 2 or 3. Which to me, i think it's over priced. I will prepare as a package of 3 with only RM10. Will be using Gamakatsu or Owner(SJ-43 or SJ-51) jigging stinger hooks size of 2/0 and 3/0. The kevlar line should be between 150lb to300lb(depending on which one i can get. The length is usually 2inch, 3 inch and 4inch(inclusive of the hook length). My breakdown of costing. A pack of GAmakatsu hook (5hooks) = RM15 A roll of kelvar 10meter(Can tie about 25 assist hooks estimated) = RM 25 Shrink wrap to retain the knot = sponsored! Assist hook(per pc) = RM3 + RM1 = RM4 per assist hook. For a pack of 3 it's RM10 *Not a promotion or trying to sell, but to save cost. This is how the assist hooks should be placed. Either single or double hooks.  This is how a jigging assist hook look like  I'll be preparing type C or D. I can also prepare a dual set where the front and end is also a hook set. This made the double hook easier where you dont have to prepare 2 set and it can tangle between them. For ordering, please place your name below, number of set and length that you wanted. 1. Talang does not have cabin but very spacious and a wide deck for popping and jigging.I remember using a 8 feet rod with 150gram popper at the front deck. IT'S CONFIRMED FOR THE TRIP! As usual, i'll be selling the jigging assist hook, i'll share with you guys later on the reason. Added on June 7, 2007, 9:53 amAs said earlier, usually in a jigging trip i'll sell some jigging assist hooks. The reason is simple, need not waste or spend extra $$ for the hooks. A pack of good quality assist hook(prepared) is about RM20 or more for a set of 2 or 3. Which to me, i think it's over priced. I will prepare as a package of 3 with only RM10. Will be using Gamakatsu or Owner(SJ-43 or SJ-51) jigging stinger hooks size of 2/0 and 3/0. The kevlar line should be between 150lb to300lb(depending on which one i can get. The length is usually 2inch, 3 inch and 4inch(inclusive of the hook length). My breakdown of costing. A pack of GAmakatsu hook (5hooks) = RM15 A roll of kelvar 10meter(Can tie about 25 assist hooks estimated) = RM 25 Shrink wrap to retain the knot = sponsored! Assist hook(per pc) = RM3 + RM1 = RM4 per assist hook. For a pack of 3 it's RM10 *Not a promotion or trying to sell, but to save cost. This is how the assist hooks should be placed. Either single or double hooks. This is how a jigging assist hook look like I'll be preparing type C or D. I can also prepare a dual set where the front and end is also a hook set. This made the double hook easier where you dont have to prepare 2 set and it can tangle between them. For ordering, please place your name below, number of set and length that you wanted. 1.
