Yesterday I went to Aeon Bkt Tinggi, Klang and at Networld.com.my shop, I asked for the price of HTC Tytn II. I was quoted RM3,199 with free software and free service whenever my unit screws up, reformat, load new software, load latest Map King, etc.

Since I am quite outdated with PDA stuff, I just want to ask if it's a good price and also will there be any upcoming models similar to this / better.

Ok, now I found another package for HTC Tytn II. Price is RM3100 for full package with 2G Memory Card & Bluetooth and 1 year warranty by SiS.

I have one major concern, it's about the ROM upgrade. As shown in the 838 Pro topic, will the same problem applies to Tytn II?

Known issues for 838 Pro.
KNOWN PROBLEMS BASED ON s/n REPORTS & SOFTWARE/ROM UPDATES

--S/N ---------------------------Problems found--------------

HT621 - Minor keyboard issues reported on some Orange devices

HT623 - Some of these device owners report screen alignment issues, others are fine

HT624 - Most of these device owners report screen alignment issues Dopod

HT625 - Most of these device owners report screen alignment issues. Newer devices with green stickers on the box seem to have fixed the alignment issues.
HT626 - Some people have screen alignment issues and keyboard issues, others are fine

HT627 - Some people have keyboard issues, others are fine

HT628 - Some people have screen alignment issues and keyboard issues, others are fine

HT630 - Some people have screen alignment issues, others are fine

HT631 - Some people have screen alignment and keyboard issues, others are fine

HT632 - Some people have screen alignment issues, others are fine

HT633 - Some people have screen alignment issues

HT634 - Some people have screen alignment issues and minor keyboard issues, most are fine. SA issue appeared after 20days and now is constantly happening, keyboard issue sorted itself out after 2 weeks or so of use. The Dpad Down key is sunk compared to the up/side keys

HT635 - Some people have screen alignment issues - TyTN. Slight minor changes to the phone (keyboard feels easier to slide out/battery cover is more solid), but so far no problems with keyboard buttons.

HT636 - Keyboard feels easier to slide out/battery cover is more solid, body has no squeking, much snappier than my old Trion, but so far no problems with screen alignment (3weeks)but my "M" is little bit nonresponsive. MDA Vario II has no problems so far (couple of days) No unresponsive keys! Solid casing. Stylus is a little stiff to pull out

HT637 - a few known SA problems, slide out keyboard is somewhat stiff, need to give stylus a good pull/push to take out/put in.

HT639 - No SA problem so far (1week), slide out keyboard is somewhat loose, need to give stylus a good pull/push to take out/put in. Beware of unresponsive key(s)

HT640 - Stylus got hard to push in and out of housing, but after about 10 days it was 'back to normal' with no evidence of any of the friction pads falling out. No screen problems after 30 days (30-Nov-06)but at just under 60 days (27 Dec 2006) the red/green phone keys on the bottom of the phone + the soft keys next to them have stopped working so the phone is being exchanged

HT642 - Stylus gets hard to push in / out of housing. No screen problems after 7 days from (31-Oct-06) The battery has been changed, it is now got a white plastic sheath and is only rated at 1300mAh (Model No. HERM160, made by Sanyo)

HT644 Stylus is hard to push in. No screen problems. Battery is 1350mAh (Model manf. DynaPack CO. LTD) (25/11/06)

HT645 Stylus is hard to push in. No screen problems. Battery is 1300mAh (06/12/06)

pennywise ... AFAIK ... dopod 838 pro is using Windows Mobile 5 ... i think those kinda problem only apply when they upgrade to the Windows Mobile 6 ROM ... tytn ii out of the box is using Windows Mobile 6 ... so i dont think u need to worry .... so far mine is working without problem ... well .. sometimes u need to restart the pda once in a while ... just in case ...

No la, that list was started long before Windows Mobile 6 came to the market. Its the problem with the phone itself. I am offered RM3100 with 2GB and Bluetooth headset. Is it worth it?

hi pennywise,

bought the phone already?

wanna get it together in Aeon Klang? so we could squeeze the guy for a better offer for 2 unit instead ..

what do you say?

pm me if it is ok with you ..

regards,

No la, havent buy and I wont be buying from Aeon Klang. I am getting from my friend direct from SiS for RM3100. I doubt you can get cheaper anywhere else. I thought of doing a bulk purchase here for everybody since it's a good phone, many ppl want it and my friend work in SiS but then no money to pay for other forumer first, and no one would pay me RM3100 first before getting the unit.

I'll just get one unit myself around end of this month or early Jan.

some one in garage sales at the pda section is also selling it at 3100

Yea I noticed but I rather deal directly with SiS since my friend works there and if I do it in bulk, it's possibly cheaper than whats offered here by anyone else because RM3100 is the price for one unit so I thought if I do bulk, it'd be even cheaper like RM3k, maybe?.

I called up my friend at SiS and offered RM3000 if I can do a bulk purchase of 10 units. Do you think LYP.net have the market for 10 units?

I'm still considering if I should get this at all. My gf is making noise saying I spend too much. I am using a N70 now.

I can get Tytn II for RM3,000, paid with credit card with zero interest direct from SiS including freebies like 2GB storage card and a headset.

Thing is, should I get this PDA? And even if I were to, should I wait for Jan 2008, for later batches? Like some other forumers here, I also want to know the difference between batches.

Anyone can advise?

I need some convincing factor to tell me that Tytn II is a good buy... Should I?

I care about the:
1. GPS feature
2. The camera, at least decent enough to take shots of the food I eat when I travel so I can post it up at my blog.
3. Push e-mail
4. System stabilitity
5. Will the keyboard and tilt function loosen up after much use?

Hi,

The GPS I would say is average. Some reviewers in Europe rate Kaiser's Qualcomm GPS chipset as better than Sirf Star III. If you need GPS device for daily navigation in Malaysia road, Kaiser can deliver it.

The camera, although it is 3.2 Megapixel is only good enough for outdoor shoot. If you wanna use it indoor, make sure there's enough lighting or else, you'll suffer the lagging viewfinder (slow refresh rate). However, Kaiser has better camera capabilities than most other PDA's camera.

Push e-mail I believe is being used for e-mail with Microsoft Exchange, like blackberry devices. So far, I havent heard any problem with this feature. And sadly to say I haven't try it yet.

System stability is quite good. If you're looking for a Pocket PC running WM6, be sure to check the ram is at least 128 MB. And I hardly encountered system crash, though not to say it never happened before. Keep in mind the etiquette when running WM6 devices, keep running processes as minimum as possible.

The final question is more on build-quality. I have compared Kaiser side by side with Zinc, and Kaiser would have won the build quality test.
Even Dopod 838Pro owner would agree HTC has put in a better build quality for Kaiser.

One gripe with Kaiser is the build in keyboard. Zinc has better. Hope my explanation helps.

And one more thing, the best pocket pc i ever had is O2 Mini aka HTC Magician. Kaiser only comes 2nd.
*
Ok, right now, I am VERY curious to know why is your best Pocket PC a O2 Mini and Kaiser only comes in 2nd? I had an O2 Mini for about a little more than a year.

Another question is, so Push E-mail is supported on Kaiser?

Speaking of the GPS accuracy, can we say that Tytn II GPS accuracy is of the same with those Garmin / Holux GPS devices?

Yes it is accurate as garmin. For GPS, accuracy it not much important. As long as it between few meter that is ok. We are not use GPS for military to bomb someone. The most important is the map information. The more info like place, road, building and etc the more interesting to use.

Malsing is a website. They have all the type and version of map that can feed to your device. Please check thier website to learn more of this GPS. They have very good tutorial about GPS.

Yea, I know the accuracy will be about few meters off. Just wanted to make sure it doesnt lag like 5km off.

By the way, want to ask you guys something... I am really tempted to buy Tytn II. Has already make arrangements to get it after New Year, so it's a 2008 unit, not a 2007! This is also partly due to the fact that no one knows about the difference between Batch one and two (if there's any) as I've seen many of you asking.

At the same time, my colleagues are brainwashing me to get O2 flame, stating that its process is 520Mhz, that's 120Mhz faster than Tytn II. Also, it has 2GB ROM, so it should be faster.

Coming in here to ask Tytn II versus Flame, which is better is like going to KFC to ask about McDonalds. I hope some of you veterans can help by guiding me right the down path.

Does ROM matter? Is really extra 120Mhz matter on a Flame? What's your views?

Why are you comparing 2 different processors, Qualcomm 7200 and the Intel, opps sorry, Marvel xScale? tongue.gif

I just want to know how important it is to consider the processor speed as a factor before the purchase. Not technical comparison but feasilibity comparisons (money wise).

Pennywise,

you should ask yourself what you want to do with it, e.g. for some people, having the extra keypad (hence extra weight) is totally unnecessary.

Trust me, the speed difference isn't much, I have a 624mHz x51v but I don't detect any speed improvement over my kaiser (partly due to the vga). My 2 cents.
*
Oic... thanks for educating me. How about the ROM? Flame has 2GB ROM and Kaiser has 128MB... Hell a lot of difference in number but how much of performance does it affect?
