The Sales and Services Tax, or better known as the SST will take effect in Malaysia starting 1st September 2018. This replaces the current Goods and Services Tax which was zero-rated since June 2018.

So what happens to mobile prepaid services in Malaysia? We’ve checked with the local telcos and basically, you’ll get slightly less credit for all reloads or top ups effective 1st September 2018. In short, a RM10 top up will only give you RM9.43 of credit. To cushion the blow, most telcos are throwing a little bit of extra freebies for every new top up.

Before 1st September, if you top up RM10, you’ll get RM10 of credit. This will change starting tomorrow as all prepaid reloads are subject to 6% deduction. If you’re wondering why RM0.57 was deducted instead of RM0.60 for a RM10 top up, it’s because the reload is inclusive of both credit and 6% SST (6% of RM9.43 is RM0.57).

They absorb the tax. Comes gst they dunwan to absorb. Minister slow talk with them, they agree to absorb. Now dunwan. So its up to our minister gobin can convince the telco to absorb or not.

This can be a test BN minister or PH minister better biggrin.gif

Good question. Last sst was only charge for goods exclude services. The current SST are 10% good + 6% service.

If services dont subjected to tax. Then the revenue of goverment will be lesser.

SST is service tax. They should charge that when people use their service for call sms data. Not during reload. Reload is to put credit points into your account. From my understanding SST should be calculated at output only.

Coz previously, GST only applies when u use your credit (e.g. call, sms, subscribe data, etc)...

Same like TnG, reload get full credit coz when use to pay toll and all oni where GST applies...

Time to feedback to LGE! Ini mcm dah double tax rakyat!!! 🤬

No, they tax on actual usage. 10sen/min means they actually deduct 10.6sen.

That's how they did it for GST. Not sure why the change now.

That is the problem, why tax it now and pass the burden to rakyat? The country is no better compared to pre-gst time

Today is the deadline for Telco to reduce the price for the broadband but as we can see, not all Telco follow the new regulations. Most of them still retain the price.

Even TM also kuat kencing with it's Streamyx plan

not true.

there was tax.

but prepaid business was so profitable that telcos are willing to pay the tax from their profit margin in order to corner and retain customers. it gets hidden from customers.

until gst arrives.

people haggled. argued. threathened.

either telco relented and continued paying gst on behalf by profit cut. or gomen gave exemption.

either way, it was unfair as postpaid users were not given same treatment. prepaid's "minute" is different from postpaid's "minute"? sms? bytes?
