To be fair both dropped a lot. But the currency attack in 98 was worse. However steps taken by government of the day back then vs IMF well that was debatable.

Ringgit strengthen against Thai, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam , Brunei, Australia, New Zealand, etc.
