Why are engineers so undervalued, been seeing everyone has been saying that engineering pays super low, especially in the construction and design career path. Would like feedback before my brother ventures into engineering. WHY MALAYSIA LIKE THIS, WHY OH WHY!!

Plenty bangla construction engineers who are willing to get lower pay

They are not , some of my engineering mates earn quite a bit

the problem is a lot of people dont understand engineers and technicians

and yes this includes the engineers themselves; then they get all worked up when you call them glorified technicians

ex gomen engineered our downfall. not just for engineers but other perceived-to-be-respectable professions

fresh grad engineer sure dem low...
but after few years exp, later masyuk laaa

I heard my fren even got RM1.5k-2k per month (fresh grad)

Sales engineer > ALL

Civil engineer most they willing to pay u is around 5k

u got IR or not , if not dun complain engineer low salaries
many engineer name only not the real engineer

I blame all the chinaman company. Suka2 tibai title engineer to anybody. Last time i work, im the only one with actual engineering degree. 1 with diploma and the other 2 degree in arts stuff. All sales engineer. Da hell

I blame UiTM.

Producing glorified technicians and call them engineers.

cause u easily replaceable lo... try songlap some along the way to make up for the loss

now day ppl suka suka put name engineer, the name of engineer very smelly aldy , i will not allow my kids to become engineer
night time u go pub and clubbing and see u throw one stone will hit one engineer then it bounce and hit another few.engineer

Few days ago saw a documentary in germay..civil engineer salary goes as low as 1.8k euro. So its a global problem

What do u mean by don't understand engineers and technician?

Sadly to say..yes..engineers is undervalued nowadays..everyone claim they are engineer..

But when people ask u to register as Grad. Eng or take Ir..u say its useless, dont give u any benefits..

so register first..then later make an official complaint so people who dont register or cant register cant use the engineer title.

ya..compare apple to apple la...cost of living here vs there. Don't assume 1.8k x conversion value = gaji besar dari malaysia.

i see this in my industry really, my clients have an engineering department but all of them are technicians. Their job is to fix and perform general service issues with the equipment, not design and build.

then you have my suppliers who also have engineering departments, but their job is to design , build and support.

the former is normally paid much lesser, with no career path and just end up in the basement of the said building forever.

investor like low pay worker?

if you as an engineer only do low level job like "check drawing" , then don't expect to be paid well.

can say the same to those technician in hospitals & oil rigs?

I work in health care so yes for hospitals

1.8k euros you can survive decently in Europe
But RM1.8k in KL you gotta ikat perut kao kao oh

good living for single.

2k plus can sustain a family of 3, father mother n 1 kid.

Civil engineer here are paid avg 3-5k, some gets high that that. Where got 1.8k?

For engineer, 1.8k euro in Europe consider small salary.

If u have time, pls visit those chinaman companies or small companies.
Don't live in denial. yes there are still engineers paid in those figures.

U need kroni to approve not engineer... So why engineer need to pay high?

We have no problem with local company that are poor in engineering... Janji we are rich to buy other products.. So why we need highpaid engineer?

you need to be a specialist to earn the big bucks.

Look I don't deny that there are folks out there still work underpaid jobs.

1 of the Construction comp here that I know build road etc pays 1.8-2k for supervisor with or without technical certificates, those who has deg or better can earn double that amount. I'm just informing here so that anyone of u here who work in similar field know if u are currently underpaid or not.

It depends on location & company...

I believe most company in klang valley & penang will hire fresh grad not less than rm2.5k...

Gaining experiences & change jobs helps to improve engineers salary over time...

i regret i no take that path
if i'm not mistaken, u learn their language for a year
then u get free education for the engineering course
and also they value their engineers a lot

Noone can explain in detail what a real engineer does.

specialist in the field is the key to gain big bucks, u need to be very good in whatever you are doing...

u can be a car painter with a exceptional skills, can gain 2000-3000 per car....

you can be exceptional in IT, you can gain big bucks also..

if you are average, u need to accept fate u will received average salary...

u can be exceptional in scamming, u can also gain big bucks..

whatever u do, u need passion...then u gain skills and then the money will flow in..

An engineer is a person who repairs mechanical or electrical devices.

Since experience is one of the most important aspect as an engineer, engineering should adopt "Apprenticeship" scheme. Maybe extend intern from 6 weeks to 6 months to 1 year.

Or just try to emulate from the german style.

Upgrade to engineering consultant and trainer bro.
But keep in contact with the sales side.

That way you get paid for your tok kok and also get referral fee from suppliers when suggest solutions.

I have a couple of friends that graduated from Engineering from NUS and NTU, now the have kids, and they always say, if their kids say to them want to study "Anjingneering", they will break their kids leg.

All of them left the engineering field and doing some other stuff, which is more well paying.
