i want to prepare some rough lumber from the saw mill to make some picture frames. I am planning to buy a hand planer/jointer to plane and joint the wood. the hardware store near my place only has 2 planes on sale. See below pictures.

I have never bought a planer before so I dont know if these will do the job properly. i want the picture frames to be good and square. I dont want to end up buying planes that I will need to spend more time adjusting than using. any of you ever use these and what are your recommendations? should I go elsewhere to look for better planes?

but power planers make rough output, no?
i wanted to buy hand planers cause the results 'should be' much cleaner than using a power planer.

Power planer is actually quite smooth if your maintain the blade and keep it sharp. Don't plane against the grain.
To make it even smoother you can sand the wood after planing. I usually use 180 grit then 240 grit.

Those rm47 planer? You better check the sharpness of the blade and flatness of the bottom before using.
After sharpening and tuning the hand plane will work well.
