Guys , I am a final yearengineering student now . I am now thinking to pursue postgrad studies. May I know what's the starting salary for fresh lecturer in IPTA ? I'm currently having my internship now , i find that I am not really suitable into the engineering field . However , i am the studious type of person . I am still passionate with the engineering , just not the everyday routine of working under dirty environment) So , I am thinking of pursuing postgrad studies and earn a moderate living workign as a lecturer.... Pls advice on the salary . i am keen to know.

salary starting at 7k for pHD but its very hard to get a lecturer position this day. for 1 job, there around 400 applicants that have pHD, many pHD menganggur now, so your probability to get a job as low as 1/400 and probably become harder and harder in the future once you graduated. good luck

7K for lecturer (PhD) and teaching in public university. But it's very hard to get especially if you are looking to work as a lecturer in research university such as UM, UKM or UTM. Many PhD grads go for postdoc in research university after PhD to increase chance of getting lectureship once they finish postdoc study. However it will be easy for you to get lecturer job in research university if you do your PhD under prominent professor who will help you to get lecturer job after PhD. But bear in my mind that most prominent professors are very tough to please and you will end up not to graduate on time.
Another way is to work as a lecturer in small public university with similar salary and way less workload. It also depends on what field you are going to pursue as well. Not sure about private university but salary between lecturers working in private and public uni should not differ much. This post has been edited by princesshigh: Aug 27 2018, 07:44 PM |

Just for your info,
you will be very poor 'before you obtain your PHD' title, most research grants are able to pay you rm1.5k~2.2k for master/phd. Although some of the research grant are able to provide you allowance of 2.5k~4k, but some of them required you to do additional admin works such as tutoring and etc. Now adays, it's not easy to get a lecturer job as well. And i would assume that you're aiming for research based master/phd, bear in mind that, research based master/phd is an entire new way of 'studying' as compared to degree.
