Suppose that my Public Bank credit cards were approved in September 2017.

Based on the current understanding, will the card service tax be imposed on each credit card in September 2018?

I would like to know whether my understanding is correct or not.

yep, expected.

those who gotten the card approved before 1 Sep 2018, would have 1 year "grace period" before getting CST imposed on next anniversary.

Thank you for sharing the guideline from Affin Bank.

Referring to the guideline from Affin Bank, since the anniversary month of my Public Bank cards is September, it seems like card service tax will be imposed on my cards next month (September 2018). Sigh. I have to cancel the less useful credit card.

QM SST, from what i was told by CS, it follows expiry month (which follows the 1st card's)

my cards are all on April (follows my 1st pbb card), havent seen any SST. by right, it would be charged on May 2019 statement.
*
So, PBB's method of charging SST is quite similar to Maybank's method, whereby SST is changed on the expiry month of the first PBB credit card, instead of on individual expiry month of each PBB credit card. Right? hmm.gif

UK banks are charging the retailers for cash deposit. It is FOC in Malaysia.
The retailer will save the "Cash Deposit" charge (higher than Debit card charge) if they offer you "cashback".

In Malaysia, Giant Hypermarket did offer the cashback service (but with a service fee) a few years ago but unfortunately it is now discontinued.
*
Yeah, we should emulate UK system. Banks in Malaysia should charge retailers for cash deposits. That way, theoretically, retailers would encourage customers to pay with credit cards, debit cards, or ewallets. This will encourage us to become a cashless society.

Then again, Malaysian businessmen are very cunning. If banks in Malaysia start to charge retailers for cash deposits, retailers will then pass down the fee to customers. Either way, customers are on the losing side.

Is there any maximum age limit for BigPay? I may wanna apply for my parents who are 70 and 65 respectively.
*
fruitie sis, sorry for being nosey. sweat.gif

So, this is one of many ways you gain online cashback with your PB Visa Signature Card and also your future PB Quantum MasterCard? Good for you. thumbup.gif

I have a PB Quantum MasterCard, and I am thinking to add PB Visa Signature Card.

Then again, my online transaction amount is quite low each month. Since I do not have high online transaction amount every month, my meagre online cashback amount is unable to offset the RM 25 Card Service Tax of a PB Visa Signature Card, on top of another RM 25 Card Service Tax for PB Quantum MasterCard.

Before anyone else asks, I am not eligible to get a BigPay Prepaid Card, due to my personal limitation. There is no issue on BigPay Malaysia side.

Sigh, without RM 25 Card Service Tax, I would have no hesitation to add PB Visa Signature Card. Dilemma. rclxub.gif

rm25 sst per year wor, takkan whole year dont get >rm25 cb? biggrin.gif

well, your quantum kena SST already? if not yet kena SST, dump it and get VS instead. at least got extra Grocery category and higher cb %/cap for your low-spending. still pay SST for 1 card.

if already kena SST for quantum, keep it until next anniversary for you to decide. smile.gif
also, in upcoming 12 months, are you expecting high-spending, like buying electricals, renovation, etc? you can swipe those with VS card (assuming you get it now) and get VIP points instead (non-cb category). 10k VIP points can redeem RM25 too. then convert those large-items with Flexipay 9mth 0% (ending this year but usually renewed). at least this can buffer you for 1st year's SST. if you intend to maximize these large-spending with other cards, then go ahead with that and ignore this  wink.gif

Yes, the card service tax has been imposed on my Public Bank Quantum MasterCard this month. Since my anniversary month is September, there is no way to insist Public Bank to "reverse" the card service tax, as what was done by those with the anniversary month of August. I just have no choice, but to pay the card service tax for Public Bank Quantum MasterCard.

Great idea, cybpsych. Before September 2019, I shall apply for Public Bank Visa Signature Card. Since the annual income requirement for Visa Signature Card is lowered, I have a slightly better chance of getting it. For sure, it is subject to the approval by Public Bank.

If I manage to get Public Bank Visa Signature Card next year, I shall terminate Quantum MasterCard. If the application is rejected, there is no harm in me keeping Quantum MasterCard. smile.gif

You raised a good point on spending huge non-CB transactions and gaining 10k VIP points to redeem RM25. This method is suitable for some other credit card users. Sorry to say that this method is not suitable, as generally my spending per month is low.

QUOTE(cempedaklife @ Oct 13 2018, 09:26 AM)
Well, all kinds of utilities, tnb, unifi, astro, digi. Maxis, etc can be paid via online all these are under online transaction too.
*
Correct, I agree with you. With both Maybank 2 Amex and Public Bank Quantum MasterCard, I gain online cashback, from performing online payment to Maxis, TMNet and so on (with some Merchants accepting Amex).

As of now, my bills have been overpaid by several hundred ringgits (negative outstanding balance). So, it is not practical to keep spending on online transactions, just to get online cashback. Adding Public Bank Visa Signature Card would worsen my dilemma further.

Anyway, thank you to everyone, for posting useful suggestions to me. Although some suggestions may not be suitable for me, it is nice to hear some alternative viewpoints. smile.gif

Oh I see. Yes, they don't need PBe. I will look into supp cards then. May I know if I should request for separate statement upon application or after it's approved? Thanks. notworthy.gif
*
You need to choose separate statement, when you fill up the supplementary application form.

If I am not mistaken, other cardholders who did not opt for separate statement upon application need to terminate their supplementary credit cards (which default to combined statements), and obtain new supplementary credit cards. Upon the issuance of the supplementary credit cards, you cannot change from combined statements to separate statements.

So, after getting your supplementary credit cards, call Public Bank CS to confirm that separate statements are indeed selected for your supplementary credit cards. Then, you will have peace of mind during spending with your supplementary credit cards, knowing that separate cashback is given. smile.gif

For Spend Now 4 More Cash Back campaign, we all know that we need to use our Public Bank Credit Cards for online transactions as early as possible on Monday morning, so that the chances of getting the promotional cashback is higher.

For sure, the owners with BigPay Prepaid cards have the largest advantage, because the time of BigPay payment processor is set at GMT+8.

For other payment processors with their time is set GMT+0, such as Maxis Pay (https://pay.maxis.com.my), we can only start to use the Public Bank Credit Cards, starting from 8 am on Monday morning onwards, which lessens our chances of getting the promotional cashback. sad.gif

No doubt, I can use my Public Bank Credit Cards around 1 am on Monday morning, for Maxis Pay transactions. For sure, the transaction date will be stated as Sunday, and I have to submit my OTP screenshots to Public Bank, to appeal for the promotional cashback.

Then again, it is subject to review and approval by Public Bank Credit Card Management. Who knows that the luck may run out, and maybe Public Bank Credit Card Management chooses not to grant cashback for these transactions with transaction date on Sunday?

It is a huge disadvantage for those who do not have or are not eligible to have a BigPay Prepaid card. sad.gif I cannot do much, but to accept how competitive the situation is.

My handphone is an obsolete smartphone, so I cannot install BigPay App in my smartphone. Too bad, the Android OS of my smartphone is outdated to support BigPay App.

Other than that, my smartphone performs well, and I do not see the need to replace my handphone.

With BigPay, you can 'earn' a new smartphone. So, do consider to get a new phone and 'earn' back the $ for the smartphone.

You have a valid point there. smile.gif The promotional cashback of more than 10% is too tempting to resist.

I myself cannot match the huge spending of RM 480 per week you all can easily make, without a fuss.

Anyway, I just make some calculation by myself, whether extra spending to gain the 10.42% cashback is enough to purchase a new smartphone. Different people will have different spending pattern.

Thanks again for sharing your opinion. smile.gif

You do know that you can use an android emulator right? I will never install any banking or financial stuff on my phone for security purposes.

I have been using am android  emulator all these while and participate in PB contest.

Ok, maybe later I will send you a private message on how to install an Android emulator to install BigPay app. smile.gif This is off topic to this thread.

The next time whenever you apply for a credit card, take notice of a clause which goes something along the lines of "Allowing the bank to use your details for internal marketing purposes / 3rd party marketing purposes." You will notice a check box beside those clauses which may indicate "Yes" or "No".  This is of course up to everyone prerogative whether they want to say yes/no and obviously if you decline, the bank have no right to reuse your personal details for their marketing purposes.

*
I am trying to understand whether there is any relationship between opting out of marketing purposes and success in credit card application.

Let's assume that there are two credit card applicants. They both have exactly similar annual gross salary, healthy debt service ratio and clean CCRIS records. The difference is that one of them states in the credit card application form, to opt out of internal marketing purposes / 3rd party marketing purposes, while the other applicant checks 'yes' to marketing purposes.

Will Public Bank and other banks choose to reject the credit card application for the applicant who opts out of such marketing purposes? After all, the banks cannot cross sell other banking products to this applicant, so this applicant is perceived by the banks as less likely to generate profits to the banks.

This scenario can just seen as some sort of a conspiracy theory, and I have no proof to substantiate this claim. Anyway, it is just my gut feeling. Hopefully, some experts can shed some light in this matter, so we can get correct information in this matter.

I have some concern that saying no to marketing purposes may slightly decline our chances of getting credit cards and housing loan, but I can be wrong by the way. hmm.gif

You may not have caught on to the earlier discussion where a member mentioned about a telemarketing call received.
I responded by giving a tip to protect personal data protection by highlighting a clause that can be found in a cc application form.
Yes, hye. I am very much aware that your previous post provides a useful tip on how to avoid telemarketing calls, by explicitly opting out of "Allowing the bank to use your details for internal marketing purposes / 3rd party marketing purposes." in the credit card application form.

I am sure that many of us here, me included, appreciate your useful tip. We just need to exercise our consumer right in a proper way, so that we try to minimize the misuse of our personal details and to avoid getting the unsolicited calls by telemarketers. smile.gif

QUOTE(hye @ Nov 6 2018, 08:13 AM)
Approval for financial products are granted by banks after screening the customer of their financial records/capabilities using various tools and internal assessment for worthiness. Very clear the bank would need to know whether the customer would be able to have the financial abilities to pay if he/she uses their financial product. Even though a "good rated" customer opted out of internal marketing purposes / 3rd party marketing purposes, it wouldn't impact the rating as the customer ratings model are not based on such.

I don't know where did you derive your conspiracy theory to begin as if you talk to a banker, they'll laugh it off. Can you provide documented proof as to where this idea came about ? Not keen on any "I heard from so and so .." or anything as such. Even a theory will start from somewhere even though from a  drool.gif fool'sdrool.gif heresay.
*
I am sorry that my post may be vague and subject to misinterpretation. However, I did say in my previous post that it is an unsubstantial opinion, based on my gut feeling. I do not want to mislead others in this matter, but at least your explanation sheds some light in this matter.

Back to my examples of two credit card applicants with exactly similar annual gross salary, healthy debt service ratio and clean CCRIS records. Theoretically, all banks should approve credit cards to both applicants without any discrimination.

Practically, in real life, banks are driven with objective to derive more profits from bank customers, and as such tend to favour credit card applicants who opt in to internal marketing purposes / 3rd party marketing purposes.

Anyway, I think that your explanation is good enough for my understanding, and I agree with you that we should stop the discussion in this matter. Thank you. No offence intended, hye. sweat.gif
