Hi guys,

As per title, I recently bought a new Kingston A400 SSD but I am unable to detect it in my Disk Management but I was able to detect it under BIOS and CrystalDiskInfo.

I already tried running Memory Diagnostics and changing SATA cables but still to no avail.

I currently set my windows boot under my HDD. Do I need to reformat my computer in order to access my new SSD? This is my first SSD and i'm still new to this hardware.

Appreciate the help given

Check your BIOS HDD controller setting. Is it AHCI?

Hi, there are only 2 options available on the controller settings which are AHCI (which is currently set to) and RAID.

I am currently using Gigabyte H170-Gaming 3 mobo. As you can see on the BIOS, my SSD and HDD are both detected.

What your intend to do with SSD?

If you want to move your Windows to SSD, try to download the cloning software from Kingston.

The cloning software might able to detect your SSD.

Under HDD boot priority. Is it detected as a bootable device?

No, I intend to use it as a spare HDD at the moment. Can I actually use it as a hard disk?

No, its not. I've set my WD as my bootable device as it only has Windows in it. Am I missing something here?

It should be detected as boot device; even though the boot priority is lower.
Try swapping SATA ports on the mobo, e.g. port 1 or 2

have you initialized the disk? i assume it's a fresh drive, it's at uninitialized state.

you need that so that it can show up in disk management. usually disk management will prompt you for this. if not, try to refresh in disk management.

Ok, I've set my SDD to SATA port 0 and my HDD as SATA port 1. I've also set the boot device priority to the SDD but still I'm unable to detect the SSD in Disk Management.

If all else fails, I will attempt to install Windows on the SSD and use it as my primary drive with my HDD as my ext. storage

No, I am unable to initialize the disk as it is not detected in Disk Management. I have refreshed it multiple times and its not showing up in EaseUS as well

When I try to install Windows 7 from my installation disk, it will not detect the new SSD. But the drive is seen in the BIOS. How do I resolve this?

When the SSD is recognized in the BIOS, but Windows 7 installation does not detect the drive, follow these steps:

Disconnect any other hard drives or SSDs. Boot the Windows 7 installation disk. Choose repair, then advanced, then command prompt. Type: "diskpart" without quotes and press Enter. You will see a prompt labeled "diskpart". Type the following commands and press enter after each one.

Diskpart > Select Disk 0
Diskpart > Clean
Diskpart > Create Partition Primary Align=1024
Diskpart > Format Quick FS=NTFS
Diskpart > List Partition
Diskpart > Active
Diskpart > Exit

not really sure what happens, because ssds are just another type of storage. you can try the method using diskpart above described by our friend. remember to disconnect your hdd first (as precaution so that you don't mistakenly apply to your current hdd)
