Pos Malaysia offers RM1,300 for postmen, couriers, drivers: Here’s what Malaysians say

PETALING JAYA, Aug 15 — Pos Malaysia’s recent advertisement offering a monthly wage of RM1,300 for the positions of postmen, couriers and, van and lorry drivers became a hotly debated topic on local social media.

“With the amount of hard work and stress they have to go through, you really think RM1,300 is enough in 2018? That is why many quit the job. (Patut la ramai lari) Ridiculous!!!”, one user tweeted on Monday.

Some claimed the salary was lower than that of a cleaner who works five days a week and a delivery person for McDonald’s.

“Even a McDonald’s delivery guy can earn RM2k a month,” @KhabirM tweeted.

However, there were those who believed the salary offered by Pos Malaysia was reasonable, using the low pay that fresh graduates earn as a gauge.

One said, “Meagre salary is a national problem that I agree.”

The present minimum monthly wage is between RM800 and RM920 in Sabah and Sarawak, and RM1,000 in Peninsula Malaysia.

Increasing the country’s minimum wage to RM1,500 per month nationwide within a period of five years was one of the 10 promises made by the Pakatan Harapan government while campaigning for the 14th General Election.

Last week, Human Resource Minister M. Kulasegaran made a statement that the targeted minimum wage rate will be achieved in stages, and the increase rate for the initial stage will be finalised by the Cabinet meeting this Friday.

Among the disapproval voiced by the public, one called for the Human Resource Minister’s attention to the matter while Pos Malaysia remained indifferent.

No wonder pos laju people never deliver to my house. They just 'update' in tracking system that the package status as 'unsuccessful' delivery.

But seriously, who'd want to work as postmen if u can get higher pay working as a bangla in warehouse, or as an operator in factory.

hire those who cannot find any other job, then end up many issue like item lost etc...is it worth it

As comparison, in Beijing, an experienced courier delivery guy makes RMB10k include OT(normal pay is around RMB6k)
Fresh grad engineer in Beijing is RMB10k.

Yet so many of us were complaining when Pos Malaysia raised prices a few years ago. Money isn't created out of thin air. They were already struggling to make a profit before the government sold them.

why naik gaji while they just press bell once and wait 1 second and if nobody comes out they just leave a note ask you to take your parcel at the hq.

1.3k is really too sikit for a permanent, i worked part time in guardian during uni time and i got 1k.

With such a low celery, I'm surprised why I don't see more bangla working as posmen instead.

I guess the pay is kinda low. They probably give incentive to postmen for number of sucessful delivery in a time frame.

They can say what ever they want. increase tarriff and far more expensive than other postal service yet still can hold back their staff. Citylink and airpak service far more better and cheaper.

look at those TM bangsat top management earning 7 figures and giving us fucking slow internet speed only now they wanted to make a big jump upgrade after changing gov and yet they wanted to delay the exercise.
as the gov said all glc top management salary have to be slash big chunk and distributed it evenly with other lower ranks staff to justify theirs good work.
