That's correct, some people choose certain speed as this is exactly their demand, just that there isnt any plan with same particular speed offered at lower price point preturbo era, they had no choice. Meanwhile, for certain people, speed is their demand, they chose the fastest speed available, they demand more speed, but there isnt any faster speed available too at that moment[preturbo], they had no choice too.
In my opinion, this turbo mess started out all wrong, after pilot testing, they should give customers option to choose within certain timeframe, speed upgrade or price reduction at no cost[no contract renewal, no penalty fee] from users' end within certain window period. After window period, if no response from user, auto speed upgrade and regulate pricing.
Knowing TM bloodsucking nature, they would all their might squeeze as much subscription from user. In order to keep their revenue, theyd rather give speed upgrade than price reduction. TM also know quite a majority of users would opt for price reduction instead, thus they enforce contract renewal to put customers in a difficult position in attempt to make users stick with current higher pricing, else like some forumers here pointed out, their revenue would plunge. They put the RM500 timebomb to safeguard their revenue. Those on legacy plans[esp vip plans], pay the most per Mb speed. Shall they migrate to latest 2018 plans, rm500 timebomb; stick with current plan, overpay/pay more for less pula. Up till today, they are still ignorant about MSAP.
TM should give a more flixibility to the pre-turbo customer.
Such as contract tie should be lifted and choice to either get the turbo or price reduction. If the pre-turbo customer is not getting turbo-ed after the long waiting period then the customer is paying blindly.
