Confirm that, I tried before also. And you can't take the BTU and use it at the other place, it won't link-up with the OLT. If same area, same OLT then can, like my neighbour's BTU will work in my house but not in a totally different area.

I actually have 2 x HG8240W. My HG850a died 2 weeks before RYE2017, so TM replaced it with a HG8240W and then during RYE2017, they installed another HG8240W and didn't take back the old one. So both still work. What do you mean, try both at the same time?

I wonder what will happen. Will it work? Downstream is broadcast anyway so that should not be a problem. Upstream is unicast though. Dunno enough about GPON to even begin to guess.

Get TM to change it. HG850a's network ports are 100mbps. It's reliable though. I was using this since VIP5 days until my 100mbps upgrade when TM changed it.

Nice looking BTU. Actually i240G also is gigabit and suitable for Turbo but it's TM, who knows what they're thinking.

Last year, they changed my HG850a, PSU died, to a HG8240H. They took back the old HG850a. Two weeks later, for my 100mbps upgrade, they changed the HG8240H for another HG8240H. And didn't take it back so now I have 2 x HG8240H.

If your Cat5e are ok then it won't make any difference. But wouldn't hurt to try, just a few ringgit. Above average quality Cat5e can go up to 10Gbps.

I know what the specs say but it has gigaports. jjuggler, can you confirm?

What speed are you on now? During last year's and early this year's 100mbps upgrades, TM was changing, for free, all FE BTUs to GbE BTUs. So anything 100mbps and up should get a new BTU with gigaports. But sometimes TM forgets.

cat5e is good enough for up to 10Gbps Ethernet. Provided the quality is not too shabby. And heads are crimped properly.

The HG850a is good enough for 30mbps. Once you go to 300mbps, TM should change it for you. If they don't, just remind them. If something bad happens to the HG850a now, TM will also change it, most likely to the new GbE BTUs.

Nice, thanks for the confirm. RGX4400 not quite fast enough for 800mbps. OK for 500mbps, I guess.

Yeah, I bought it again early today. Sold off my first one a few months ago after a few quick tests. If you want cheaper, look at carousell SG. milo here got his for RM80 used, with freebies some more.

Just to make a quick profit. Shopee selling it for 357-799. And I know this guy who thinks Shopee is the cheapest.

Good or not; reliability, speed; have to use for awhile before can really say. Eventually I just plan to use it as an AP. But at this price for a 4x4 AC2400 WiFi router, I think it’s a no-brainer. The next best WiFi router I have at the moment is the hAP AC and that one is only 3x3 and it cost me RM400 used. Also have a DIR-868L. Can’t remember I think that’s also 3x3. Also Singtel unit, bought at RM150.

Moral of the story, buy from Singaporeans used.

LOL, yes, and all these Aztechs and DLinks are all freebies from Singtel and other ISPs. Our neighbours probably have a high end Mikrotik or Asus already. And I think HDB flats are quite small so can't keep too many things around. Have to sell off cheap. tbh, 2nd hand prices for stuff is SG is much cheaper than here, for example.
