Answer to my own question:
QUOTE If you get a message about your Vista version not being a 'supported version' it means that Microsoft does not offer telephone support. It runs fine on Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium also. Added on May 28, 2007, 6:08 pm QUOTE(TechnoDude94 @ May 28 2007, 05:56 PM) Crap la, I got a slightly different problem with you. I got Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows XP Professional and Ubuntu. I installed all these 3 OS'es in 1 computer (one OS, one partition) but I am no sure how to make the Virtual PC work so that I don't ace to keep on rebooting to swtch OS. BTW, it should be able to work as long as your PC has the right host and guest OS. Something wrong with your approach... Virtual PC does not work like what you explain... In virtualization, you need to understand the following terminologies: Host OS Guest OS Say, there is only ONE partitition in your computer and you install MSW Vista. But u wish to use MSW XP once a while. In this case, MSW Vista is the Host OS, whilst MSW XP will be the guest OS (installed using MS Virtual PC). You no need to reboot to switch between the OSes. If u want to use MSW XP, u still need to boot to MSW Vista (as host OS), and then activate Virtual PC and then run the guest OS, i.e. the MSW XP. The guest OS is just a 'folder' or 'file'. You can duplicate them as many as u want... This post has been edited by onemilimeter: May 28 2007, 06:08 PM |

Host operating systems
Virtual PC 2007 officially supports the following host operating systems: Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Ultimate, Enterprise, Business editions and European Business N only) not Windows Vista Starter, or European Vista Home N editions). Windows XP Professional and Tablet PC Edition (32-bit) and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. Windows Server 2003 NOTE: Some operating systems that are not officially supported, including Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows XP Media Center Edition, or XP Home Edition Virtual PC emulates the following. 32-bit Intel Pentium II processor (but virtualizes the host processor on Windows versions) with an Intel 440BX chipset standard SVGA VESA graphics card (S3 Trio 32 PCI with 4 MB Video RAM, adjustable in later versions up to 16 MB) system BIOS from American Megatrends (AMI) Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 ISA PnP (when Vista is installed as both the host (main) and guest (virtual) Operating systems, then the need to set audio configuration is removed, as the guest (Virtual) OS automatically synchronizes the settings with the host (main) Operating System.) DEC 21041 (DEC 21140 in newer versions) Ethernet network card. |

QUOTE(TechnoDude94 @ Dec 15 2008, 02:34 PM) Err..VMWare Server is FREEWARE. Only VMWARE Workstation and other editions needs to pay.I've used both VMWARE and VPC. For hosting Windows desktop O/S (like XP and VISTA), i think it's better to use VPC...seems like faster and can drag/drop files between host/guest...VMWARE can't do this. It can do very advance stuff like load balancing, storage, fail over etc etc.VPC is meant for play play and syok sendiri... |

I'm not using VMWare Workstation. I'm using Parallels Workstation for virtualisation in my PC but I'm using VMWare Fusion for virtualisation in my Mac.
