Below are some simple comparisons between the Pixel 3 (non-XL) & Pixel 2XL since i have both in hand:
1) Camera (see attached original unprocessed photos with EXIF data intact)Some comparison day and night shots between the Pixel 3 and Pixel 2XL using both Portrait and Night Shot.
Scene 1 (Portrait): Sunset in the background with plant leafs (in focus)
Scene 2 (Night Shot): Shot of a open public park in the late evening
Key takeaway: Differences in both shots are almost indiscernible when viewing on a 2K desktop monitor. If i am to pixel peep, the Pixel 3's shot is slightly cooler in the day while for the night scene, the tree leaves illuminated by the yellow street lamp appear to be more green on the Pixel 3 compared to the Pixel 2 XL's which is a little more yellow.
2) Battery LifeBoth units have been configured with the exact same settings:
- Brightness setting fixed to 70% brightness (adaptive brightness turned off)
- 2 x Google accounts in sync in background
- Black wallpaper set for both Home & Lock screen with Dark Mode turned on
- 60% LTE and 40% WIFI mixed usage
- Adaptive battery turned off
- AOD switched off and wake up phone only when notifications are received
Key takeaway: Pixel 2 XL is still the overall battery champion with 1 day 9 hours usage (6 hours 30min SOT) versus the Pixel 3 with 15 hours usage (5 hours 35min SOT).
Should you upgrade to a Pixel 3 from a Pixel 2 XL? Probably not even with the massive 200USD price discount.
Should you upgrade from a Pixel 1 OG to a Pixel 3. Maybe.
