Anyone knows how to get Alipay verified as a Malaysian? any one in this forum has done that? i mean with an account that actually belongs to you and not via a 3rd party agent's alipay

I read that one needs to have a Chinese bank account , and china dont allow any foreigner to open account there so easily anymore.

if anyone could advise, will much appreciated.

thanks in advanced.

Only if you are a verified user and the Alipay account is linked to a Chinese bank account/card.
Otherwise it is only a "limited" Alipay account which allow you to use a Malaysian Visa/MC to pay Taobao/TMall only

Above page help me to register 2nd level verify of Alipay, charge rm100 one off fees. Now I can receive and send money for RMB just like WeChat rmb wallet (they said limited to 10k RMB per year)

But this is not fully VERIFIED, after they done it, your status still showing unverified (need to link with CHINA bank card for fully verified), but no problem for receive/send money. the info they need just is our personal details plus passport no.

Alipay launches international eWallet, giving foreigners access to electronic payment platform in first for China

https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2...first-for-china

Ant Financial Services Group, which operates one of China’s two dominant e-payment platforms, will give foreign visitors to the mainland access to its service known as Alipay, removing one of the biggest hurdles that have prevented outsiders from taking part in China’s growing cashless economy.

Ant Financial, an associate of Alibaba Group Holding, will allow visitors up to 90 days’ usage of its Alipay smartphone application without requiring it to be tied to a Chinese bank account, according to a statement released on Tuesday. Alibaba owns The South China Morning Post.

The company will introduce an application that will enable short-term visitors to China to make payment for online purchases through its so-called international eWallet for the first time ever, the statement said. Foreign visitors are barred from using any of China’s mobile payment systems because their eWallets must be linked to a local phone number and Chinese bank account.

Tutorial how to get a prepaid card (must have valid Travel Visa)
-Search "Tour Pass" from the top of the homepage
-Enter your info & upload your travel documents
-Set your amount (max 2k RMB) + Credit Card (non-China)
-Done & now you can scan or pay like normal eWallet, but must go through the "Tour Pass" mini app. Your alipay balance remain at zero.

The minimum top-up for each card is RMB 100 and the balance is capped at RMB 2,000 (around $285). The prepaid card is valid for 90 days. The remaining funds will be automatically refunded when the card expires.

I wonder what will happen if I top up the tour pass since I have balance in the wallet. The app will get confused or not? 😅

Edit: Oh, we have to switch region to international in order for payment to be deducted from the prepaid card, right?

Ya our fund cannot be kept by Alipay so Alipay find a Chinese bank to issue a virtual prepaid card. Smart!

How do I pin the tour pass on the main page or do shortcut? Do I have to type tour pass every single time to get into the prepaid card page in order to make payment? Coz the Payment QR code and Scan to pay is at the bottom of the page.

Maximum RMB2000, enough? For Malaysian, cannot use alipay mainland China version in China anymore?

I think it means that you can have a maximum of RMB2000 in the card at one time. So you can top up whenever you want. Let's say you have RMB500 left, you can top up RMB1500.

I still have alipay china wallet. Still can use. I can select my payment to be made from the prepaid card or my china wallet balance.

There is an undisclosed but "reasonable" limit of using Tour Pass, according to Alipay. So not you can top up whenever you want.

Sorry bro this one I don't understand. I just found out how to switch between the region but haven't use the tour pass.
I already have money in my China wallet balance. If now I use the tour pass and add money to prepaid card, then the money goes to where? Prepaid card? So do you mean your money is in two account, one in China wallet and one in bank card? And you can select between them when making payments?

Get another Tour Pass. Maybe good only for those holding Chinese Visa > 3 months.
Most of us are getting the cheapest Chinese visa - 1 entry with validity of 3 months.

Yes I have finished the first ¥100 and then topped up another ¥500 with BigPay, no OTP. Also finished the ¥500. Didn't encounter any problem using it to make payment here in China.

Alipay tourpass is very good for tourist in china, No transaction fee to December 31, 2019. BUT the terms say the fee going forward will be a steep 5%, very expensive service charge.

International Visa/MasterCard cost is not cheap in China. That's why not many outlets in China accept Visa/MasterCard. Uncle Trump is forcing China to open up this financial service.

Yes I have finished the first ¥100 and then topped up another ¥500 with BigPay, no OTP. Also finished the ¥500. Didn't encounter any problem using it to make payment here in China.

Used it for metro, food, attraction entrance fee, shopping....basically all scan and pay can be used. So for Didi, you can choose cash as payment method, and make payment by scanning the QR code to pay upon reaching your destination.

For this TourPass virtual prepaid card, it seems like once you have put in the card when you first apply, you can't change it. But who knows, probably later update may be able to do so. For example, they have added the feature for us to add TourPass to home screen which wasn't there on the first day it launched.

any problem topping up while in china? RMB 2000 is the max so far, may need topup half way tru the trip.

didnt need to uninstall my alipay, just updated to current version, change the region in setting (default china) to international and the tour pass will in the first page when load app. And all option change to English by default.

Just like Bigpay, it doesn't matter where you top up as long as you have internet access. The wallet size is RMB 2000, you still can continue to top up till wallet reaches RMB 2000, but there is an undisclosed but reasonable ceiling for 90 days.

And you cannot choose another credit/debit card to top up and refund (when the wallet expires after 90 days). So think carefully which credit/debit card to use (valid for at least 3 months) when getting the Tour Pass.

Not worth it lah when 5% surcharge (waived till 31/12/19) on top up Tour Pass. You still can use Bigpay to get cash from ICBC's ATM.
When you go to China next year, Wechat Pay is another option, not sure how it will work

Topping up don't need OTP so no roaming is ok, but Internet is needed. Just like you will need internet to use it too, be it data roaming, wifi or using local sim.

No issue topping up in China. I actually didn't switch to international version. I'm still using the china version, no problem using the tourpass prepaid card. I can switch between china wallet and prepaid card without any issue.

I've filled in all my passport info but when I clicked on the Confirm & Pay button, nothing actually happen.

For public buses in general, there is a different set of codes from the normal alipay QR code. And there is a different code for different bus network in different cities too. In the alipay app, there is a section for registration for QR codes for buses, where China IC is required. So we still have to keep small change for buses since no change will be given.

So far the bus I have tried with alipay is the airport shuttle bus where they have the QR code for you to scan. Other than that, all city buses we could only use cash.

Can your friend still pay after pressing ok?

I remember that I have encountered popped up messages from some merchants (not many), I can't remember exactly what the message was, but I could still pay after that. I think it's just a warning message for users to be careful when transacting.

Cannot....from the warning message also clearly state that the transaction had been terminate due to high risk... sad.gif

But, later she was able to pay in other store with terminal by letting the merchant scan the QR. hmm.gif

Therefore, who want to use Alipay in China still better prepare or have some cash with you cause it is not 100% work....I guess

Yes one of my Tour Pass was not always working especially to a newly created Alipay account. Be careful with RMB 100 bank notes, a lot of fake notes are circulating. For UnionPay debit/prepaid cards issued in Malaysia, must pre-inform the bank to enable overseas usage.

*
I have been able to “partiallly” verify my account on Alipay using my passport details. Like the above, my account shows that I am “unverified” in the app. However, upon checking with their Customer Support, I was advised that the function of sending and receiving funds has been activated in my account.

I have tested with RMB 1 up to RMB 150. So far I can send and receive.

However, for the limit, I am not so sure.

YA no problem receive / sending funds.
I been confirmed that limit 100k RMB (十万rmb) usage per year. Which is fair enough for personal use. No problem.

100k RMB is indeed a lot already! It’s fair enough. So I don’t always have to bother my friend in China to help me make payment for me. Hehe

Definitely cannot be totally cashless. There are instances when their system is down and alipay cannot be used. There are also places, usually small town, where Alipay cannot be used. To take public buses, we have to use cash too. And I have also come across one particular metro station in a big city like Shanghai where ticket machine can accept cash only.

*
Walaww thanks to you ah bro. Initially my Alipay got the TourPass at the "more" after updated. Able to pay in China.

After i back to Msia, that icon went missing. Ask a pro friend also can't help.

Then saw you mention "search" at top homepage. Yes finally found it liao! If i list out all live apps, i can see TourPass and Alipay app as 2 separated apps pulak, but can't find the TourPass app in phone pun.

Don't think so. The credit card paid thru alipay platform only. Refund via taobao platform is much easier

You can now request for refund for the unused balance in TourPass and need not wait till after validity period. Just tap on the three dots on the top right corner next to the words PREPAID CARD.

No, I haven't. I checked with BigPay last week about the refund. They checked for me and there was no refund in the process. I think I have to contact Alipay for that. But since it is mentioned that the refund can take up to 15 working days, so I'll just wait a bit before contacting them.

No, I haven't. I checked with BigPay last week about the refund. They checked for me and there was no refund in the process. I think I have to contact Alipay for that. But since it is mentioned that the refund can take up to 15 working days, so I'll just wait a bit before contacting them.

I guess amount matters. I received mine in just 2 working days.

You are probably right. For me, I use Alipay China so this TourPass is just more for trying it out. So I used up till ¥3.60. Too little for them to care. Wanted to know the rate. So now that you share, it shows that the refund rate is good too.

Oh wait. I just suddenly remember. My friend who had ¥1 left only and got the same srtike out TourPass amount refunded. Just that we didn't understand what that was. Now that I see your screenshot, that must be the refund. Ooh....so they actually left me out!

Just realised that there is a few ringgit more in my BigPay, then I started with the search TourPass but nothing came up. Then I searched for SH and the old transaction in November when I topped up my TourPass has suddenly changed to a strike with RM2.13 and the transaction is shown as reversed. But the old amount of CNY500 is still stated there. So I guess this must be the ¥3.60 refund. Somehow mine is so different from others. If I did not keep track of my balance, I would have missed this.

The one crossed out should be a different transaction tho?

For mine, the previous one is still there

Gained about RM2 haha.

Wanted to buy some wholesale stuff but they were using personal Alipay account, so ended up not using the funds at all.

For mine, there is no different transaction stated. They just changed the old transaction to reversed and strike out the new refunded figure. I topped up CNY500, so the value in RM is no longer shown there anymore. Probably I was one of the early adopters, activated it the first day it was launched. So you notice that it is called Sh wallet in BigPay transaction instead of TourPass. I don't have any transaction on TourPass in BigPay.

Not verified cannot withdraw. Just use it for your next purchase on Taobao. You will be saving on the service charge.

First of all, do you have a bank account in China? If no...

For Taobao, you will be given a Alipay account but it is not an wallet. For you to use foreign credit/debit/e-wallets to make payment to Taobao only.

If you want to get an Alipay wallet but not having a debit card issued by a bank in China, you need to use Alipay for foreigners. It is a prepaid account valid for only 90 days, it is charging 5% fee to top up the prepaid account if I am not wrong, not sure if a Visa issued by Chinese Embassy is still required!

i dont think you can topup rmb by your own.

have one option is you go to shopee and buy rmb from them.

or i can help you too if you only need small amount.

PM me if you need help. thanks

reminder: one alipay amount usage limit per year is RMB 200,000. after that your account cannot pay anymore. have to wait another year

Now alipay can full verified using NFC passport verification method.
Thus, 闲鱼 can be fully verified after linked to full verified alipay.
Just upload photo of passport & FACE ID verification. Just done cool2.gif

Now Ant has launched a new official cross border payment solution called 1688 cross-border Pay(跨境宝/Kuajingbao/KJB) for international buyers, so Malaysian can directly pay 1688 supplier.

Now got Alipay Business account which foreigner outside of China can open to top up and pay 1688, been using it and it's very seamless best thing is no more annual limit on transfers.

This article explain this solution pretty well

Just a quick questions for those who know for purchasing items from 1688 using alipay.

I already have a verified alipay account (malaysian passport verified), but don't have a china bank account/card added into alipay.

So is it possible for me to get someone else to topup some RMB into my alipay account and I will be able to use the alipay amount in my account to purchase from 1688 suppliers (during checkout).

Wanted to confirm before I commit and get someone to transfer some cash into the alipay account.

Try find them at Shopee, the rate is around 0.72 to 0.73 per Yuan as of now. Sometimes you cannot find any result if search using Shopee search bar, you need to google "Alipay shopee" then find shopee link from Google results. I am also finding cheaper agents, not sure but I think at some point 7 Eleven do sell those Alipay giftcards.. Need to check back.

Alipay topup will be constantly getting remove by Shopee so the seller will generate new product link each time. Find reputable seller.

Alipay+ should work in China for non peer to peer transfer. I have use it to pay for meals at restaurant and its hit n miss depends on whether its merchant or peer to peer transfer. Weixin pay is more supported but again non peer to peer.

Alipay+ is useful in conjunction with Meituan app for renting cycles and if not mistaken for rental cars and train tickets. I could not get other cycling apps to function. Be certain to install all apps needed when in Malaysia unless used roaming.

Make sure is Alipay+ and not Alipay at merchant though.

I assume you have completed the eKYC process on Alipay app (upload photo of your passport and a selfie)?
If not yet, do it first, wait about 1 hour for them to review your documents. Once it's approved, then try make the QR payment again.
Open Alipay app > Account > tap gear icon on top right corner > Account and Security > Identity Information > follow the instructions there

You said you "plan to use Alipay in China at end of the year, but today you tested using Alipay to make payments 'at some Chinese restaurant'".
Can you clarify that the "at some Chinese restaurant" that you're referring to, is it a Chinese restaurant in Malaysia?

WTF. I cringe everytime she says "Dear".
Reason they use "dear" because it is translated as the Chinese word of "亲", which is their common way of addressing customers in the context of "dear valued customer".

You can only use alipay in China. Cross-border payment (meaning you use alipay in Malaysia) is only for those with mainlaind ID. In other words, you can only test it out when you are in China. I've used alipay in China for years, not much of a problem, except that there are still some merchants who will only accept wechatpay.

If you set currency to CNY, then you can pay using alipay. Same goes to Taobao, if you set currency to CNY, you can pay using alipay.

We can use Alipay payment services in China only, not in Malaysia or other country.

Alipay can be use worldwide only applicated for Chinese with mainland ID registered, not passport like us.

Easiest is to have a local merchant Duitnow QR that they can scan and pay with Alipay so u receive in MYR.
If they transfer directly RMB to u in Alipay its a hassle to cash out

In China right now using Alipay. AMA!!

Yesterday used Alipay to ride subway. Very convenient!! Surpisingly at McDonald...i don't know why they want cash only.

Foreign Banks VISA/Master cards are useless here. I have linked Alipay with WISE and a local Bank CC and they works.

Hi,

Can you walk me through how Alipay with Wise work? I've got Alipay linked to Wise and Msian bank CC. So, if I pay using Alipay, the transactions will be directly taken from Wise CNY account? Do we get to choose whether we want to use Wise or CC? Is there any additional transaction charges?

Will be travelling to Hunan province end month and trying to understand how payment works and whether to bring more or less cash.

Thanks.

Your cards already linked then easy.

Go to Account->Setting (top right corner icon)->Payment Settings->Payment Priority order.

WISE works as normal. Always take local currency first, else not enough then auto convert.

If I make a payment of less than CNY 200 via Alipay QR scan, then the exact amount will be deducted from the CNY basket in Wise. If it is more than CNY 200, then additional 3% charges will be taken. Is this correct?

Thanks.

Hi, wanna ask about the Alipay app usage in China. Noticed that there's this Didi sub-app within Alipay. May I know if I can use this instead of the standalone Didi app when travelling (ride hailing) in China?

And if I'm to use this Didi sub-app under the Alipay, I believe it will deduct the amount from the linked credit card right? If I have the options of linking GX card, TnG Visa card, and those normal bank credit cards, which one will have better rate in term of forex and bank charges?

Thanks

Is the fare the same on Didi standalone app vs the sub-app in the Alipay app?

Also I tried to use it just now and noticed that there are a few options as per the screenshot below. May I know if I shall just select the cheapest one?

Attached Image

How about the upfront vs approx fare? Does it means fixed fare vs by meter?

Thanks

Also wanna ask about the Alipay app. Currently it's just linked to my Taobao account for online payment. If now I want to use it for physical payment in China, do I need to do any extra setting? Or just scan the code and the paymemt will be deducted from the linked cards?

Thanks

Cheapest one usually need wait longer to get a car; which is expected.
Never compare stanalone app vs sub-app; but China is way more competitive environment compare to MY, I dont presume they will wanna kill themselve with such silly pratices.

Just add your VISA/MASTERCARD credit card to Alipay, then eveytime u make payment is charge to your own credit card.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but pay with Alipay app vs TnG Alipay+, which one has the better exchange rate ya?

I believe Alipay app will charge RMB to the credit card which the rate will need to include bank's fee?

Or shall I link TnG Visa to the Alipay app? Will this have a better rate than linking a credit card or pay with Alipay+?

Or maybe the difference is just negligible if just pay for small amount like couple of hundreds RMB each time?

Thanks

TnG Alipay+ rate quite bad

if Alipay they charge directly in RMB to your card, so exchange rate depend on what card/bank u use.
but transactions over RMB200 will charge extra 3% fee so in that case it depends, but if under RMB200 then definitely Alipay better, u can also link credit card with good rewards with foreign spending, as good as RM1 = 1 airmile can get, so i pretty much just use Alipay + card.
Even on taobao can consider doing this cuz taobao built in exchange rate to MYR also not great, so better i get air miles out of it.

Great, thanks for the info.

For transactions above RMB200, with the 3% extra charged by Alipay, if without the credit card rewards I believe TNG Alipay+ will have slightly better rates than this?

BTW this RMB200 limit, it's applicable per transaction and not the cumulative spending right? As long as each scan is below RMB200 then will be able to avoid this 3% charge ya?

Ya I also use credit cards linked to Alipay for my Taobao purchases, but somehow some banks will tag it as ewallet instead of online hmm.gif hmm.gif

Thanks

Do I still need to verify my alipay account with my passport for usage in my China travels?

I read somewhere it's only necessary to verify if I want to make money transfer and also higher limits. If just for making small purchases should not need to verify my account correct?
Thanks in advance
