Go look at Taxi rate and judge grab fare rate. Without surge i am pretty sure is below RM1.5 per km.
Look at the demand because of the rain, consider yourself lucky because surge at RM1, i've seen customer paying RM13 for about 2km ride.
And before complain expensive, have u try to hail taxi? AFAIK taxi rate is RM3 (First 1km or 3min), then additional RM2 for booking at your doorstep. That alone cost RM5 for the first km. Go and try it out and compare with Grab fare.
A lot of young generation complain this and that never been through the past ages where taxi charge absurd upfront fare and their bad attitude.

Uber n grab have offered an alternative to the riders to change their transportation pattern. Before Uber n grab, only taxi available, how many riders are willing to take taxi unless they have no other better alternative. For short distance, many riders rather choose to walk instead of taking the taxi quoting rm20 for a short ride.
Because of the emergence of Uber n grab, many people willing to take up ehailing due to convinience of smart phone n more affordable fare rather than i called it cheap. The behaviour of riders has changed slowly n now sikit sikit want to take cab or ehailing.
If one day ehailing becomes like taxi, hard to get n price is not that affordable anymore, riders behaviour might change especially if got other alternative.
Riders needs the drivers n drivers need ridets to co-exist. Only a win win situation can ensure this business can go longer
