No. That would not be effective. They need to encourage people to use BP and not deter them. Free top up, but charge them if they want to take out the money from BP. It's a win for BP because the money would be stuck in the ecosystem and people really use BP instead of just the gateway/intermediary of getting cash back from CC.

I've been a long advocate of that. Top up for use BP as normal instead of withdrawing. This abuse also cause the CC companies to pull back cash back because since everyone is topping up and withdraw, how la bank going to sustain.

What they can do is charge maybe like 1% or more if you want to withdraw/transfer to your bank account while offering great rates for TT to foreign account/swipe in foreign currency.

The goal of BigPay is to be a worthy competitor to bank.

If there's transfer fee/premium of let say 1% to other bank, that would not be possible for them to be a Digital Bank. That would only make them at most a prepaid card.

Agree that they would want people to keep the money in them but instead of a transfer premium, they should apply interest of some sort to encourage people to transfer in/keep the money in it.

Charging extra for foreign transfer I would not complain but local transfer would be a big no no for me.

Some oversea digital bank/multi currency prepaid card (cant recall which one at the moment) have a fee for CC topup but not for online banking/debit card. I think this is a good way to deter people from topping up via CC then withdrawing.

The usecase you are describing is perfect for prepaid card. But again... Their goal is to be a digital bank like Revolut/Monzo in europe or WeBank in China. They are not going to stay being just a prepaid card. Thus they need bank transfer to make it a "Digital Bank"

If they wanna go for digital bank, they cannot focus on BP Card anymore. They have to launch new products and feature that attract more consumers over. If just the local transfer to bank without any other benefit, nobody is really going to use it. BP card is just one small avenue.

It's gonna be interesting time ahead.

The benefit that excites me a lot is how good this app is compared to our local bank app.

Our local bank app would be afraid and scared and start beefing up once BP get a Digital Banking licence which are currently being drafted by BNM.

BigPay slogan is Challenging Bank 😂

Add in DuitNow, JomPay and this BP can really make me ditch my current bank LOL

I'm just done with my trip to Europe. Specificially Swiss, Italy, Austria, Prague and Germany. Used BP there without much of a hitch. Cards are widely accepted and transportation tickets can be purchased via app using card.

One lesson in Prague. If see Euronet atm, stay far far away. Even though i used the bank exchange rate instead of DCC i still got hit with a 99 czk withdrawal fee (about rm18). Didnt realize this until too late and was in a rush. I withdraw from Deutsche Bank atm in Swiss and there was no charge. Be careful with Euronet atm as the default option for amount withdrawal is ridiculously large... 20000 czk anyone? Thats like rm3500 in one go.

Also, if paying at shop using card, ask the cashier to insert card and use chip & pin. They like to tap and wave, but if amt is larger than rm250, transaction will auto decline. Got one cashier used the paywave 3 times until my card kena barred. Had to contact CS to unbar. I kept telling him to slot in but he wouldnt listen. Typical italian fler...

I'd like to find out more about using Big Pay in Switzerland i.e. paying at supermarkets, restaurants, transportation...

When you swipe bigpay card do you have to say charge in MYR or in CHF?

What about the exchange rate was it like xe.com rate? Were there additional fees either by bigpay or retailer or anyone else?

You could pay for transportation through the transport companies app and paid with bigpay card as like normal card?

And final questions, when you withdraw cash from Deustch bank u only pay RM10 withdrawal fees and no other fees? What about the bank exchange rate was it like xe rate?

I read some people had problem with pin number and couldn't withdraw from ATM overseas. Did you have any problems?

Thanks...

always choose CHF if they come out the option to pay in both currency. MYR rate uses DCC which negates the point of using bigpay as the processor would've added in fees for the exchange. rate is very close to XE rate, with some minor adjustments after the transaction clears. Either higher or lower. Percentage wise not much diff. Definitely better than using bank credit card for overseas transaction.

Treat BP like a normal credit card. you can use the card to pay for tickets etc and it'll charge accordingly. Just make sure have credit inside.

Withdrawal is same. Always remember to choose the original currency amount (CHF in this case). Some ATM like Euronet is a big ripoff as they'll steer u towards settling the withdrawal in MYR. Charges for Deustch bank is RM 10 on withdrawal fees. Remember to key in the right pin. Exchange rate very close to XE rate.

No problems with BP throughout my 1 month trip there.

I am in Prague airport now and waiting to board flight back to KL.

13 days in Budapest, Vienna and Prague, not a single cent spent with cash. All with CC and I used BP the most for its awesome exchange rate.

First time for me to do this for my trip and luckily these three cities are CC friendly. thumbup.gif

This is just a sharing for those planning to visit any of these cities. icon_rolleyes.gif
