I got a 2001 bmw 530i with a faulty catalytic converter, the inside is corroded leading to rattling sound, low performance and bad fuel economy. Was thinking of removing the catalytic converter to avoid hefty costs.

What are the pros and cons of removing the catcon?

Does anyone know the market price of replacing catcon?

Which option is more reasonable?

You will get power loss if remove completely , however you can ask the exhaust guy to help you to mod a special replacement to get back the power boost, abt the environment , forget it , we inhale poison everyday from smokers , so no harm you can do to us anyway..............

Just do a straight pipe. Might get 10-15%power increase at 10-15% higher fuel consumption. All my cars don't have cat after warranty.

Power loss for AT or CVT. DSG or AMT no problem.

somewhat true..but free flow is good too...original design with catcon is too restrictive, by removing cat con, it will free up some HP.. not power loss.. ... Original is only good if u want to be kind to environment or u want a quiet ride..
