hi

I wanna reinstall OS but each time I encounter an i/o error

i think my hdd connection from the laptop is the culprit coz I can connect the hdd as external drive to another pc

can the power/sata connection be repaired and is it expensive?

thanks

Try to download the HDD diagnosis program from HDD maker site.
Run the said program and check the HDD health ...

Send for shop for repair. Most SATA connector are build in with motherboard in laptop.

I think it is not about HDD failure but the mobo failure because the normal HDD port cannot detect HDD

Try testing using another HDD on your laptop, if it detects, then it's your HDD, else it's the laptop.

The connector is just simple mechanism and hardly faulty unless bent pin or whatever. It looks more like failed chips that controls I/O.

I'm not 100% sure but I think it is hard to buy IC replacement on shelves. Mush easier to replace with new mobo, but then you need to verify that first

If it is an old laptop, find a replacement could be difficult and expensive. Weigh the pro's/con's and consider buying a new laptop instead.

When install the OS no HDD detected might be due to the BIOS setting better check under BIOS if the HDD detected or not if not then your Hardware problem if detected then might be the setting under BIOS

Even limited you should have the HDD information on the system.
And also can set the BOOT mode or SATA mode.
Can I know your system came with what OS ?

Correct but that happen if your system need or required additional driver (old system) but nowadays the new system should have come with all the driver

If you encounter I/O error when you install windows, usually that points to hardwaare failure. Specifically hard disk.

If your laptop still has windows in it, download & install crystalldiskinfo to check if the hard disk is faulty.

Else you need to take out the hard disk and use another laptop or PC to check with crystaldiskinfo to see the condition of the hard disk.

The laptop hard disk connector ribbon hardly fails. Unless you have taken the hard disk out before and damaged the cable. Replacement could be moderately easy or hard. Easy if you can buy the cable assembly that matches your laptop model and replace it. Hard if it requires soldering that cable on the motherboard.
