So after nearly a month of owning the car, having clocked around 1.5k km - I would say that I'm enjoying the car. Glad I didn't spring for the latest Harrier or BMW X1 instead. I think the CX5 punches above its weight quite well and matches to those more expensive cars pretty well.

Just wish that the gearbox is a little faster, that's really my only complaint.
*
Which variant are you using.

I am sort of keen on the Cx5 but stll unsure whether the 2.0 GLS is powerful enough to move the car as I do like to speed occasionally.

The difference between the 2.0 and 2.5 is only like 20k but of course the running cost such as road tax and tyres will cost more.
Can anyone know the price differences between the 17 and 19 inch tyres

Looking at YouTube review on malaysia most is done on the 2.5 or the 2.5T or the 2.2TD

supposedly most will say its adequate but can it easily hit say 140 to 160 km/h

What is the FC of the 2.0 and 2.5 when driven sedately

2.0GLS.

I had initially wanted to go for the 2.5T, but the added cost is not a mere "20k" difference. The insurance is higher on the 2.5T, higher petrol consumption ESPECIALLY when stuck in traffic, the road tax and tyres (as you noted), plus the cost of replacing parts are more expensive on the 2.5T variant (even if many of those parts are shared with with the 2.0 variants, a common practice by many manufacturers).

At RM180k (with insurance, it'll be around RM185k already), I don't know if the 2.5T is worth that much.

I'm only using the CX5 for daily city to city commuting, for highway runs I have my A35 AMG if I'm traveling outstation. Otherwise I've been happy with the 2.0's performance, it's definitely good enough. Handling is superb for a car this size. 160km/h is not an issue, I've topped 190km/h and I'm sure it can hit at least 200km/h before it starts to max out. Like I said earlier, just wish the gearbox is a little faster.

I'm getting 8.7-9km/L for FC on the 2.0. So much better than my previous guzzler which was the Harrier, damn thing was barely doing 6km/L.

Hi Ben, many thanks for your feedback

I was actually thinking about the standard 2.5 and not the turbo version as I know that I won't be able to use the full power in a SUV and with insurance the OTR will be above rm185k which is above my budget

Comforting to hear ftom someone who drives a AMG saying that the CX5 2.0 has sufficient power cos most of my friends who drive the 2.0 camry always say its underpowered for sprited drife

Well will have to see how the economy pans out before committing to a bulky purchase

Go for a test drive yourself and judge for yourself. Different people will have different expectations.
It is difficult to based on others expectation.

Hi kelvyn, thanks for your feedback too but its always good to ask realife feed back from current owners too

Hi cfa28,
There is a difference between the various CX5 models. Even for the petrol version alone, there are 3 versions.
Personally I have test driven the 2.0, 2.5 & 2.5T. Wasn't interested in the diesel version. Getting the Euro 5 diesel can be hassle for me.
As for the 2.5 non turbo, the price is slightly lower than the 2.5T. You are looking at a RM14k difference. But for the 2.5T, you get a turbo engine plus other (LDWS, LAS & Active driving display)
After driving the 2.0, I personally find it to be under power especially when there is 4 persons in the car.
End of day, I decided for the 2.5T

Of course the 2.5T will have higher road tax plus costlier tyres.

As mentioned by Ben, either you go for the 2.0 (budget constraint and don't mind the power) or the 2.5T. It's all boil down to personal preference
*
You have been poisoned by the Turbo

Once you have turbo especially with a 2.5 or even 2.0 turbo. NA will never be enough unless it's at least 4. 0L and V8 engine.

I will probably go for the 2.0 L as you guys are suggesting since the price difference between the 2.5 and 2.5T is only RM15K but between the 2.5T and 2.0 is about 30k

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Mar 7 2020, 07:27 PM)
If you ask me, you either stop at the 2.0 NA or go all out for the 2.5T. The 2.5 NA is not worth it as it's priced so close to the turbo model and the difference is quite noticeable. Alternatively, you may want to look at the 2.2D as well, but too bad it no longer has the AWD.

Overall, the point of the 2.0 is to have sufficient power with good handling yet being a practical car that also provides very decent comfort.
*
Hi Ben thanks again for your input.

You are probably right. Either stay at 2.0 or go all the way to 2.5T but I think that the Cx5 is a good SUV but 2.5T will stretch my budget too much

Hey guys need some opinion here.. I test drove the cx30 petrol high spec. It’s pretty good, handling also good, nvh low, but it doesn’t seat high like a proper suv and the space behind is cramp for me if I’m the passenger. Then I tried cx5 2.2d, not sure what’s wrong with it, I felt nervous driving it. Didn’t recall such feeling when driven 2.0 last time. Handling seems sub par, any idea why ? My wife seating behind told me that she felt uneasy, like going to get thrown off
*
Why don't you try and test drive the CRV and say the ASX and Subaru XV then go to another showroom to test drive the CX5 again.

compare more SUV

my one tank can go up to 500+ average driving and 50/50 highway and city. Sometimes fully city can touch close to 500...480... but need to control right foot  brows.gif quite happy with the FC being 1.5 tonnes car and 2.0 engine and I don't drive slow. im sure can get even more if I drive more economically. mostly using ron95
*
Thanks for your feedbacks.

When you mean 1 full tank do you mean 56 litres or in between each visit to the petrol station where you may only fill up say between 40 to 45 litres

Which model u looking for? 2.0 will have the best milage . I go for 2.5 cause I wanted abit more power and I got a good deal.
*
Am looking at 2. 0 cos the cost is cheaper than the 2.5 plus lower running costs due to cheaper road tax and tyres.

QUOTE(ultra_nyamuk @ Mar 16 2020, 01:06 AM)
yeah less than full tank. usually pump about 46 lit. pretty good right ? but usually im alone driving, or with just 1 passenger.
*
Thanks for the clarification. This means that the FC is quite good for a 2.0 that weight 1.5 tonne and comparable to some older sedan or even 1.5L MPV

2.5 FC 70% highway and 30% local. 1 full tank 600-650Km. Each tyre cost about $150-200 extra depend on brand. 2.5 have a lot power but pay price for higher FC, tyre & road tax. So you just want the look or you also want the power.
*
Hi Bro, thanks for sharing but can I ask a more detailed question.

When you mean 1 full tank going 600 to 650, do you mean in between refuelling when you pump say only 45 to 50 litres (depending on how much you trust the fuel gauge) or actual 56 litres of the fuel tank pro-rata usage.

Even if you use 56 litres for 650 the FC is not too bad for a 2.5L

Do you speed often or drive normally

I always pump quarter of full thank of 500 Km had been running. Another 1/4 tank will allow me run another 120 - 150 KM before I pump. Usually I pump 42-45 L.
*
Thanks for sharing especially on the part about speeding after the toll plaza. Why didn't you take the 2.5L turbo

I don't trust Turbo. future maintenance is higher and frequency servicing is needed if you follow CR-V turbo forum. First plan take Diesel but diesel car engine blow cases is too much online, even manufacturer said is fixed. So conservative safe bet is 2.5 NA. That reason why Toyota is the most reliable Engine. Turbo N' Diesel not my type. If i need more power i rather go 3.0 NA
*
Yeah know what you mean.

Been hearing that the crv and even civic complaints about the service interval due to the turbo engine

Yep standard 2.5L for long distances driving and high speed cruising beats the 1 5T anytime
