Strongly suggest you take Kia sportage 2.0D or Sorento 2.2D instead.  Avoid this Mazda diesel like a plauge  tongue.gif

Was going to get a 2016 cx5 diesel. used one currently going for less than 40k.

watched reviews by bobby and he was giving nothing but praises, saying how good mazda made this engine. how revolutionary etc.

now I have some reservations.

google mazda diesel blown head gasket, spend some time reading it cz it happening everywhere. not sure what the solution done by Bermaz Mazda, other than detune it lower torque iinm. the problem is the reason why the price used is affortable.

2020 cx5 2.2 diesel rm66k
2020 cx5 2.5T 4WD rm107k

that is a lot of difference.

so far heard many news of diesel engine problem overseas, like Taiwan and UK. But rarely heard any issues with diesel engine for CX5 in Malaysia? not sure why? maybe our version already localised to be more durable?

yes, the 2.0 and 2.5 both NA are reliable. the 2.5T price used drop so much.

Is the 2.5T reliable?

There are actually many cases, owners either changed engine or did a quick fix and sell off their CX5 diesel.

Like I said, if you die die want a CX-5, just get the 2.0 NA or 2.5NA, these 2 are very reliable.  CX-5 petrol turbo is too thirsty and some are plagued with engine oil consumption issue.

If you really like diesel SUV, like I said yesterday, a Kia Sportage is so much more reliable and better.
In fact, to me diesel and SUV is a good match.  The heavy body needs a lot of torque to move the car, horsepower is not that important, it's more the torque.  That's why after using Sorento 2.2 diesel AWD for 5 years from 2018-2023, I yet changed to another Sorento 2.2 D  tongue.gif

Actually I was looking at Sorento 2.2D first. Then was surprised to find out that CX5 diesel is actually quite cheap for used unit. Summor it is Japan brand with kodo design and zoom zoom. So thinking CX5 should be more reliable than Korean Sorento 2.2D.

Then go watch bobby review CX5. He was praising how revolutionary mazda made the skyactiv-D diesel engine, low compression ratio, quiet, lighter than petrol engine etc

I am 2.2D owner since 2018, still using now.

Yes, CX-5 2.2D engine is 1 of the best IMO, even compare to Bmw X5 diesel. The torque, smoothness etc.

But the diesel engine head blown is also truth,  sweat.gif Happened to mine, still under warranty. I think around 89k km, 2 years ago.

My uncle also have the same 2.2D CX5, bought 9 months earlier than me. He has driven 140k km now, still no problem with his diesel engine.

If let me choose again, I will sacrifice the 'good' 2.2D and get 2.5 NA for my CX-5.
I have waited for 5 months. Warranty approval, all parts to come, swap engine and finally puspakom checking and JPJ to get new car grant cause different engine number.

now considering sorento 2.2D or sportage 2.0D

for the same year car, sportage 2.0D is more expensive than the larger sorento 2.2D. Very strange.
