Planning a SUV car  here

CX5 vs Subaru XV or Forester due to tempting prices offer by Subare 2021 model
*
Hi any outcome of the purchase ? Which one do you pick ?

My brother in similar hesitation. He has a budget of 120-150k, I advised him to take Subaru XV but he likes either CX-30 or CX-5 2.0 high.

Subaru XV GT eyesight 2022:
------------------------------------
About same size as CX-30, at RM139k OTR after discount.
+ AWD
+ Eyesight
+ 360 cam
+ Double A rear suspension
+ cheapest among the 3
+ safest among the 3
- smallest boot
- no rear a/c vent
- only 3 years free service, not 5 years
- higher FC due to AWD
- CVT

Mazda CX-30 mid or CX-5 high
------------------------
About 148k to 154k OTR, a bit over-stretched on his budget
+ 6 speed auto
+ Not as cold as Subaru brand
+ Better FC
+ More premium interior
- only 2WD
- no MRCC
- no knee airbag for CX-5
- no 360cam for CX-30
- torsion beam for CX-30
- rear seat more upright for CX-30

He is single, doesn't need bigger space nor larger boot, and probably rear A/C is not so important to him too. I keep asking him to take XV tongue.gif

Just grab a coffee and wait for them to happen. It's more fun happening after warranty rather than within warranty.  rclxm9.gif

I don't know what's with you. Acting so happy with engine issues on Mazda diesel engine.

If you are not happy with the car you can always bite the bullet and change it. If you can offer anything to help the owners here, they are more than happy to hear it.

There was a manual circulated around the net ages ago about the proper way to change atf oil in Mazda way

For short, it should be,

1. Stop engine n leave it there for 2 hours or until oil temperature is below 50celcius
2. Change oil
3. Reset TCM

*TCM = Transmission Control Module

Edit:
Reset TCM by using comp usually done without starting engine. Just double press start button without pressing brake paddle.
*
Need to use PC to reset the TCM, which means not every workshop outside has the tool right ?

Try to buy a cheap (less than RM50) heat-gun from either Shopee or LZD, heat it up to see it will pop back.

tempted to get used 2.2D for my wife as i love the torque (im driving bimmer diesel).. so do you suggest to proceed?
*
Strongly suggest you take Kia sportage 2.0D or Sorento 2.2D instead. Avoid this Mazda diesel like a plauge tongue.gif

Was going to get a 2016 cx5 diesel. used one currently going for less than 40k.

watched reviews by bobby and he was giving nothing but praises, saying how good mazda made this engine. how revolutionary etc.

now I have some reservations.

The tech is good on Mazda diesel, but reliability is shitty at best. Just get a Sportage diesel and you are greeted with one of the most reliable diesel engine at current era.

2020 cx5 2.2 diesel rm66k
2020 cx5 2.5T 4WD rm107k

that is a lot of difference.

so far heard many news of diesel engine problem overseas, like Taiwan and UK. But rarely heard any issues with diesel engine for CX5 in Malaysia? not sure why? maybe our version already localised to be more durable?

There are actually many cases, owners either changed engine or did a quick fix and sell off their CX5 diesel.

Like I said, if you die die want a CX-5, just get the 2.0 NA or 2.5NA, these 2 are very reliable. CX-5 petrol turbo is too thirsty and some are plagued with engine oil consumption issue.

If you really like diesel SUV, like I said yesterday, a Kia Sportage is so much more reliable and better.

In fact, to me diesel and SUV is a good match. The heavy body needs a lot of torque to move the car, horsepower is not that important, it's more the torque. That's why after using Sorento 2.2 diesel AWD for 5 years from 2018-2023, I yet changed to another Sorento 2.2 D tongue.gif

now considering sorento 2.2D or sportage 2.0D

for the same year car, sportage 2.0D is more expensive than the larger sorento 2.2D. Very strange.

Less demand for larger car in used market, ppl has the mentality that the larger Sorento drinks more diesel, which is true and not so true.

TRUE if you compare it with the smaller Sportage diesel

NOT TRUE because the engine is really efficient if looking at the engine size and car size, some sorento UM member can do 900-1000km on a tank of diesel. That is about 14-15km per L.

On my newer Sorento with new engine and DCT, I could even hit 23km/L on a short trip to Singapore, their expressway is really smooth & quiet, with the strict speed limit my FC was mind blowing. tongue.gif

I cant really remember did I pay for the puspakom inspection or not. I waited for so long, I just wanted to get the car back asap.
IINM, puspakom part was really fast, they told me repair done, arranged for puspakom and next few day I went to JPJ to take new car grant.
Mine is 2wd only, wheelspin happen when turning out junction from stop + full pedal.
Rainy day or sands on the road + full pedal will wheelspin too. Other than that, it is very safe.
Stop to start acceleration straight line will not wheelspin.

You were very lucky, my buddy had his CX-5 2.2D FWD exceeding 100k km in 3-4 years. After that the blown gasket happened and Mazda quoted him a big sum for engine swap, no warranty claim possible despite him servicing in SC all the time.

He did a quick fix and just sold it off. And of course, he is happy that the used car dealer will be making a huge loss on that particular car.

He was considered lucky 3 years ago, because his CX-5 was the earlier batch of current model, and at that time the problem just started to happen (since his mileage was high). He could let it go at a very attractive price IIRC. Upgraded to a BMW X4.
