For Malaysia secondary school, i know there are 2 types: SMK and SMJK.

SMK = sekolah menengah kebangsaan
SMJK = sekolan menengah jenis kebangsaan

Actually apa beza?

During my school time in the 90s in Sarawak, never heard of SMJK before other than from textbook that is based on west Malaysia.

Smk is sekolah Umno.
Smjk is sekolah DAP

Are you really from smjk?
Then You should know the history of smjk yuhua.

Some Smjk such as yuhua previous is Chinese private secondary school.
They received the aid from gov and follow the gov education syllabus but remaining the lembaga pengarah.

Satu lagi pasal tak ada pilihan parents hantar je anak sekolah kat sana.

no, one of the few conditions to receive gomen aid is to give up the land of the school to the gomen, the 60+ independent chinese schools in the end didnt want to give that up and hence they went independent

means they dun receive gomen aid and dun folo our national school syllabus, macam those international schools lo

yup, land belongs to gomen, but gomen oni provide staff's salary but maintenance of school settled by the school itself, hence they still need some donation from public

Reality is, it's a place where insecure parents send their golden goose kids to avoid the low quality education in gomen skols. I'd never imagine they send to fulfill and uphold the "Chinese" roots. Nevertheless, it indoctrinates the division mindset
