I used to have the same thoughts ... where the slim one couldn't last long, overheat after 3 hours of playing etc etc

I'm not sure if I'm one of the few lucky ones but I have a slim ps2 and I never had any overheating issues ever .. not even once *touch wood*

I didn't do any special mods either. Just buy the stand, buy the USB PS2 fan and it's good to go. And I don't play it under air-con room as well



Just keep your room cool will do
