KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V has welcomed the government’s efforts to promote greater transparency by revealing the country’s actual financial situation and for reviewing the implementation of various projects to save on public expenditure.

In his royal address at the opening of Parliament this morning, the king said he was supportive of the government’s decision to abolish the GST, stabilise the price of petrol and extend financial support to the people.

He also lauded the government’s commitment to promote better financial practices for the benefit of the people.

The king expressed the hope that these measures would help lessen the burden felt by the people.

“At the same time, I am appreciative of the contributions made by Malaysians towards the Tabung Harapan Malaysia.

“The contributions made by Malaysians, regardless of their religious faith, race and age towards the fund show the great care Malaysians have for the country,” he said.

GST should not be scrapped in favor of SST. Not only does SST yield less for the government coffers, but it's plagued by loopholes.

I'm happy to see that KJ has committed to pushing for GST at a lower percentage.
