Does anyone here have any experience with placenta previa? Wife is at 24 weeks now with this condition. Worried sick over this and wondering what measures can be taken.

hey mate, my wife had the same case. which stage is she in? the best is to rest more and do not over exert her strength but what does doctor advice?

measures?

1. do not miss the appointment by obstetrician
obstetrician surely has made the appointment more frequent compared to normal pregnancy for monitoring.

2. if any bleeding per vagina, go to hospital immediately.

3. do the daily count to 10 movement chart if you haven't already.

4. depending on the extent of the placenta previa, and possible outcome, be prepared for c-section and possibility of early delivery.

The doctor did not mention the stage but mentioned that it is completely covering cervix. The doc seems to be reluctant to share too much info other than to observe for bleeding and to head over to the hospital. Perhaps not wanting us to be too worried.

We've been doing quite a bit of digging online but can't find too much reliable info.

So, in your wife's case. Was there any bleeding or did things go smoothly? If you don't mind sharing.

Thanks. Aware of the points above. The thing about bleeding is what worries us most now. As we are currently based in sg temporarily for work and need to figure out how to get back to kl bearing in mind we need to get to the hospital asap any moment.

if bleed happen in singapore, go to singapore hospital. or which ever hospital that is nearest.

don't do silly stuff like going all the way to kl.

Ohh, what i meant was that we are supposed to be heading back to kl as we are about done with our work here. Given she might bleed any moment, we're trying to figure out the safest way to travel back.

24 weeks don't have to worry too much. risk of bleeding is low
it is in the 3rd trimester placenta previa that is a bit concerning.

and there's still time. the placenta previa may migrate higher and away from the cervical os. there's cases where placenta previa stop being placenta previa.

My wife as well dr said 28 week later to see if it moves up

Which gynae are you seeing currently? We have not seen any gynaes in kl so far.

I think you should get another doctor opinion. IMHO, you guys need to know more in order to be prepared for the worst case scenario, though it could be scary but sometimes prevention is better than the cure itself.

If it is completely covering the cervix, I think it is total placenta previa. Need to observe carefully if it keeps bleeding too much of blood as it will harm both mother and the baby. If didn't bleed at all during the pregnancy period (which I pray for you guys), then nothing will go wrong with the baby, just need C-Section during labour, no biggy.

My wife placenta moved up a little bit when it is almost labor time, however due to other complication (not related to placenta at all) we decided to do C-Section to reduce risk instead.

Please go to another doctor, at least you the father should know more about the condition how bad the situation is, what are the worst case so that you can make a better decision for both your wife and your baby, whether it is allowing your wife to rest at home and stop working till birth or other alternative.

Finally wife delivered on 16/10/2018. Caesarean section on 38 weeks.

The placenta doesn't move up since 32 weeks, Dr Chua keep on checking and checking till last 37 weeks, still putting hope that it moves up, and explaining to us very in detail with the ultrascan.

The operation seems complicated bit, with blood package standby. And thanks god, both baby and mother are safe after the 1/2 hour operation.
