Hi. I'm gonna be building a new system soon and I figured I better run everything to see if it works before fixing everything in the casing. I know this is poosible as I have seen it before. Just curious about what precautions need to be taken. I know that the mobo needs to be placed on some kinda insulator, usually people use the anti-static foam that comes with it right? What about the power supply? Does it need to be grounded? And how do I get the comp to start up without the switch that comes on the case?

QUOTE(Mavik @ May 24 2007, 03:06 PM) Your power supply will be grounded through the 3-pin plug in your house. The insulator is just to prevent any sort of short circuit which can occur (for example if you put the motherboard directly on a surface which might conduct electricity or can have a lot of static discharge (carpets, rugs). To start the PC without using the plug, basically just short the two pins of the connector because that is what the switch does. Shorting the circuit to turn on the motherboard. Ok.....meaning I can just leave the power supply on the floor or table as well? And to start it, correct me if I'm wrong but all I gotta do is put a jumper on these 2 pins right?

Ok thanks for clearing that up because I read somewhere else that you gotta use a jumper. Lucky I double checked How about the other parts like hard drive and disk drive? I guess they can be just left on the table or something right? This post has been edited by joe_star: May 24 2007, 04:48 PM

QUOTE(Mavik @ May 24 2007, 04:49 PM) Yes but just be aware that dust can also conduct electricity so best to keep your components dust free Yeah its just for testing only.....once I startup and make sure everything is running i'll fix everything in the case QUOTE n remember to connect the 2 wire b4 u turn the power on not after Owh.....is that so? Meaning I touch the pins 1st and then turn on the psu switch huh?

Hmm....realized the usefulness of a caseless comp when oc-ing. Kinda hard frequently resetting the cmos jumper on my board with a 8800gts inside the case . Btw I love this board...has a built in power switch on the mobo
