Was on the verge of buying an AC86U for 1k+ to replace my old AC55UHP when I stumbled upon this thread and am very grateful for all the useful information here that is going to save me some bucks.
Just created a taobao account and bought one for 965.11 rmb including direct delivery and freight insurance IIRC. Not sure if that is considered cheap for “taobao standards” but considering I was going to shell out 1k+ for this, massive win for me regardless 😁

QUOTE(jhleo1 @ Jan 3 2019, 04:14 PM) Depend on how you compare. RMB965 as compare to best offer RMB799 exclude shipment fee from time to time. GG. Thanks for the info. I got this for 889 rmb excluding shipping and the freight insurance. Will be keeping an eye out for offers like that from now on. I’m still interested in getting one more later down the road for AiMesh.

QUOTE(eauyong @ Jan 4 2019, 03:10 PM) Any reasons to ditch the AC55UHP as I found that it is still very fast. Many reported the AC86U can reach 300Mbps on wireless but my AC55UHP can do around 250-270Mbps on ac with usb2.0 dongle. The difference of 30-50Mbps is not much. On LAN, AC55UHP can do the max. at around 903Mbps on a 1Gbps Fibre line. Well for starters I've moved to a much bigger place and a single AC55UHP can't cut it anymore. Getting a single AC86U as the main router to test first with the AC55UHP as a repeater for the time being and see how it works. Will be getting a second AC86U not long down the road for an AiMesh setup. Due to geographical reasons within the house my main desktop will no longer be able to connect directly to the router using cable so looking for faster wireless speeds, coupled with my PCE-AC88 I am looking for at the very least 500mb in wireless speed. Plus I've been dabbling in VPN in recent months and the VPN performance on the 86U is unrivaled. This post has been edited by sigheart: Jan 4 2019, 06:58 PM

QUOTE(denver @ Jan 6 2019, 02:11 PM) Does the Asus RT-AC86u bought from China / taobao has the unifi profile built-in the firmware? Or dont have and need to setup unifi manually? Yes.

Asus flagship store in Tmall no longer does overseas delivery.
Just order from another seller. I recently bought an 86U from Net something digital store and it was packed so nicely and brand new sealed. Delivery was quick as well, took only around 6 days (4 working days) to arrive at my doorstep using the direct delivery option.
I have just ordered another 86U to run AImesh.

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Jan 15 2019, 06:46 PM) Manada I can still buy from ASUS TMall just fine If can then that is great! Two weeks ago I was trying to purchase it through the Asus flagship store and each time overseas shipping option (which is my saved address btw) is selected it doesn't allow me to proceed but when local China locations (simply input and save some China addresses to test) are selected no problem. Other stores have no problem. Not sure if it was a bug. Either way purchased from another store and couldn't be happier. This post has been edited by sigheart: Jan 15 2019, 07:20 PM

I already sapu like 4 units of AC86U over the course of the last few months from tmall. All have been attached with cooling fans. Couldn’t be happier with this router.
Cheapest I got was 829 RMB and most expensive was 849 RMB.

QUOTE(lyc1982 @ Mar 18 2019, 03:55 PM) so many units for Aimesh kah ? Yesss. AiMesh ftw. Whole house strong 5ghz network WiFi. Running them in pairs in a wired AiMesh setup at two different locations. I’ll probably get another 2 in the near future for my parents house. The oldest 2 units has been running for close to 4 months and totally no issues at all. Haven’t even needed to off or reset the routers once and signals remain as strong/stable and connection speeds remain as fast since day 1. Really no complaints at all.

QUOTE(lyc1982 @ Mar 18 2019, 07:27 PM) noob question... when you say wired aimesh, means wired between both routers or wired from router to device ? QUOTE(firdausbhari @ Mar 18 2019, 07:33 PM) I think wired means using ethernet backhaul between routers Yes, exactly what firdausbhari mentioned. But to answer your question wired ethernet connection connecting both routers.

QUOTE(gedebe @ Mar 23 2019, 02:46 PM) what about the shipping charges and warehouse charges that i've read I usually just take direct shipping, I bought in pairs it was 48 RMB flat rate, but if I'm not wrong you buy one unit also it is 48 RMB which translates to around +- RM30? This includes all fees already till your doorstep. Go consolidated shipping if you're a cheapo, jk lol consolidated shipping option should be cheaper, by how much I don't know but you risk a way longer time before arrival. So far with direct shipping I usually receive it at my doorstep some time between 5-7 days tops.
