I plan to buy Blue Cave. Any comments on the Blue Cave router?

Great router and really good signal coverage. It does not have the IPTV bug unlike the RT-AC86U.

Pricing is at around RM8XX but get full 3 years warranty and support from ASUS MY.

Ranked just 1 position below RT-AC86U by SNB.

Is it still worth it to get RT-AC68U from China considering ASUS selling it at RM779 nowadays with 3 years one to one exchange warranty. hmm.gif

between AC68u VS AC86u ...which is higher failure rate in this forum ?

I see more complaints with failure on China RT-AC86U.

If you want to get RT-AC68U from Taobao, might as well get RT-AC66U locally.

RT-AC66U is on par with RT-AC68U and it will perform better than RT-AC68U from Taobao. laugh.gif

Anyone here with 86u local unit encountered device failure before?

I notice much lower failure rate but there's no way to measure this as I there are more people buying RT-AC86U from Taobao.

Many people still not aware that routers from CHINA have much lower transmit power resulting in smaller WiFi coverage.

Changing the region in professional settings wouldn't change transmit power, that only change the available channels.

China maximum EIRP is only up to 200mW while SKMM permits up to 1W for 5Ghz. wink.gif

Wah didn't know about the EIRP limitation in China. Btw, I'm currently using local 86U unit. Just into 6 months of usage but quite worried when seeing feedback of failure rates here. Just curious if local units have the same issues.

I do notice significantly lower reports of RT-AC86U bought locally having issues.

But ASUS provide 3 years 1-to-1 warranty so just whack them if anything happen. laugh.gif

currently using AC68u...

eirp lower meaning more safe to our health?
no need to worried ...if you no luck the unit will down...
if you lucky ..the unit can last long ...

WiFi is non-ionizing radiation. wink.gif

But the consolation prize is worst signal coverage.

just got my chinese unit of RT AC86. took me a while to setup because i missed the IPTV setting... so far so good yet, not sure if i should use to merlin firmware.

Merlin added some features which may be handy for some. But I stick with official firmware as it is slightly more stable to me.

There’s better VPN support and I found the temperature reading to be handy.

Merlin also comes with better fq_codel QoS but it is irrelevant for Unifi unless you’re still on Streamyx.

Of course, you can go full hardcore with ad block and many other features.

Wondering if anyone encounter setup issue with routers bought from Taobao?

I tried to setup mine, but it doesn't have the normal setup scree, the page with the "Quick Internet Setup"... only have the Automatic/Manual Setting etc.

Mind to show how the page looks like with the firmware version?
