Regarding Linux / software update, most distro will ask you if you want to choose a local server. Is local faster? My last Ubuntu 16.04 was setup with local server update but it seems very slow. Not sure where the local repository are stored (dunno which university/company). confused.gif

What's your opinion?

I find the UTM mirror maxes my connection, so long as I avoid times when the students are hammering their network. Overseas repositories are usually slow

JAIST has been the fastest overseas server for Sourceforge almost 20 years.
The worst are the European servers, Malaysias cables to Europe are poor.

Mirrorbrain (neat thing SUSE and many other projects use to determine best localized mirror server) typically just redirect me to Taiwan or Japanese server. And it is was correct decision most of time.

Just set up rsync to official server and start promoting your mirror.
