Hi hi Sifu Sifu sekalian

I intend to change my normal 500gb stock HDD to a SSD samsung 500GB. May i know which model is the best/compatible for this particular upgrades.

I notice Samsung evo 970 series the shape of it is so much different compare to eve 860. Im afraid it can't fit inside the hard disk compartment.

I guess eve 970 is for desktop (Sorry for noob question and assumption)

Thank you in advance biggrin.gif

meaning to say look for any SSD which is 2.5 only lo. Another thing is do you think changing the RAM would help a lot ?

If change what is the best configuration ?

Stock is : 2 x 2 GB

Is it ok : 1 x 2GB , 1 x 8GB ?

MBP does not have the the capability of dual-channel.. in another words, having any size of ram will do.. having same size of ram does not give u any advantage in that sense... but be careful of the speed instead... you need to ensure that the speed is the same to get full advantage out of it...

Pardon, but most modern Mac (that include MacBook Pro) are capable on dual channel memory. So long you install a match pair the dual channel will be in use. This is also why those model with soldered on-board memory, you will see two DIMM on system report instead of a single large DIMM.

Here's the spec sheet from intel, you will see "Max memory channel: 2"
https://ark.intel.com/products/67355/Intel-...o-3_10-GHz-rPGA

While Apple did not mention dual channel but they do advice owner to fill both slots with equal memory. https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht201165

Here's some healthy discussion on Mac & dual channel memory. https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/1...al-channel-mode

My 2010 is using Samsung EVO SSD and 8GB Kingston DDR3. Performance much better than stock despite age.

Now speaker kaput. Need to find a replacement soon.
