Hi, is anyone experiencing issues with Netflix app recently? I'm on the 2-stream subscription through a 30 Mbps Maxis FiberHome connection (Speed tests shows normal performance ~30 Mbps up and down). I'm on the latest 12.4.1 tvOS for the aTV 4K.

AFAIK, the 2-stream package does not include 4K video streaming, so 2 simultaneous streams should work fine.

Lately Netflix has been buffering for ~0.5-1 minute when starting any video, sometimes it gets stuck indefinitely. Playback after that point is smooth though. This didn't use to happen 2-3 months back, when playback was almost instantaneous.

There's also the problem with starting a video that is passcode protected (16+, after entering the passcode, it no longer autoplays the video. Pressing play does not respond either), but I figured that it is some bug with the program rather than an issue with buffering or starting videos.

I tried and it's instantaneous. Mine is 100mbps Unifi.

Thanks for taking the time to test.

Not sure why it is happening myself, though there is a thread on MacRumors with a similar complaint.

I'm wondering if there is some DNS geo-location issues, or else IPv6 related routing issues (Maxis enables IPv6 nowadays, but I don't really know if Netflix uses it). Sometimes it gets better if I switch to one of the public DNS services (1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8), other times it is worse. Or it could be Maxis Fiber..... hmm.gif

Or maybe the instability of the AppleTV? Have you try restart?
*
Yes, various times. sleep/wake/restart - it doesn't solve the problem.

Sometimes the wifi router also a problem.

Ok, well i didn't reset it as it's also streaming to another device. However, Netflix on both devices will exhibit this delayed start quite often. I'll try that next time.

Thanks.

Either reset or the wifi router is just not able to cope. Or there's some interference with wifi signal. You can switch to 5Ghz band.
*
Ok ok. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm using Ethernet from the aTV 4K to the router, however.

I've updated my aTV 4K to 13.0 and Netflix seems to be a bit better, though I still encounter buffering on start occasionally.
Strangely, sometimes it'll start video playback immediately which is much faster than previously where there is usually a few seconds delay. The problem with passcode protected videos not responding after entering the passcode seems to have been solved as well.

There is no consistently better performance, but I think the 13.0 upgrade is an improvement.

I'm planning to get ATV 4K. How do you guys setup the US account. Mind share? I'm half way on one of it but they need to verify with a mobile number

You should wait till after March to buy. There's rumored new device coming out in March.

Really? A new Apple TV? Great to hear that, I just recently purchased a 4K TV and was thinking of replacing my current Apple TV with the 4K version. Shall wait for the new one.

Well, currently with all the COVID-19 situation affecting production, things may be delayed. But the rumors of an imminent AppleTV release has been circulating since last month.

Finally my Apple TV 4K YouTube is support 4K (2160p) resolution. No HDR yet though.

If your Apple TV 4K YouTube had no 2160p resolution to choose from, try change region to USA and tada the 4K resolution is appear.

It works on mine without having to change region. The 4K demos on YouTube were amazing.
Edit: tvOS 14.0.2 (latest release)

It doesn't appear for me even on latest 14.0.2 when my original region was set to Malaysia.

Too bad still no HDR. So for HDR content I still need using my TV YouTube apps.

I read in other forums that YouTube 4K availability is like playing lottery. One user with multiple devices could get it to work on some but not all. Seems like it depends on YouTube and how they're actually rolling it out.
