Arab is a "race" or sorts, like Chinese, Malay, Indian, Caucasian, etc. Sometimes the lines between the races are thin, like the Italians and Arab who may have shared the same ancestry (making a racist Italian an oxymoron because they are not fully Caucasian anyways)

A Muslim is someone who believes in the Islamic faith, regardless of his "race", no different than a Christian for Christianity

An Arab could be of any religion, due to the high percentages of Arabs that are Muslims, an Arab born is most likely a Muslim, but he could be born by other-faith families, or even renounce his faith later and become a non-Muslim Arab, or just an Arab

I don't know what he was referring to as I cannot read his minds. But he was saying that "new generation is more Arab than Arab" in a thread that is discussing a Malay woman in her undies, so it is easy to infer that he is making a mistake in thinking that Arab = Islam. As quoted above by himself, he made that mistake. Nothing wrong with not knowing the distinction though.

My boss has the same opinion and I just realize this recently too. You know how the architectural design of mosques in Malaysia are eerily similar to the ones in the Middle East? You go to china mosque you can at least see an Oriental design, signs of Islam spreading and integrating into the community.

That isn't the case for Malaysian Mosque, lacking any form of local architectural design. Thus, you can see where the term "more arab than arab" came from.

The mosque is actually considered as "Rumah Allah", so I do not see why they would not be adhering to Masjid Nabawi, in Medina, the birthplace of Islam - it helps distinguish the mosques to other Malay buildins as well. Malay-Muslims on the other hand do not necessarily need to Aribify themselves, you would not be a non-Muslim by not adopting Arabic names and cultures.

There is nothing wrong with copying a design, the biggest problem is that the design didn't get integrated. The design does not represent the religion, a Malay architectural design could have been altered to a uniqueness of a mosque. However, the current mosque designs seem more like replacing the architecture of the local people.

See the problem here? a Mosque can be distinguished but the term "more arab than arab" comes from the fact that the locals are taking on a culture that is not of themselves, and is being replaced. The architecture is just one of them.

And yes Malays don't need to, that would be a good thing. But many have Arabify themselves, they won't admit it but we non-muslims can see it.

No I do not see the problem, Islam and Malays have been fused together for so long. In fact in Malaysia you are not considered a Malay and cannot enjoy the benefits afforded to them if you are not a Muslim.

This is another case of confusing between Islam and Arab.

They've been fused long yes, but even in old times, Malays had a uniqueness while also practising Islam. Where has that Uniqueness gone? It has been replaced by what many perceive to be an Islam from Arab.

Do you see any 50-storey Malay-infused buildings in KL? No, kan? Why haven't I hear you complaining about the bumiputra/Malay-linked companies HQ not being designed based on Malay cultures? Why do you care so much that an Islamic building such as the mosque, of which the root of its existence lies on Islam is designed based on Islamic culture? Keep your Chinese mosques example at home, Communist China would hunt you down if you try to Islamify their country.

For a free country such as Malaysia, and for a praying house such as the mosque, it is fair that the design is derived from Islamic (keep note that it is not Arabic) cultures. I am going to need to summon azarimy the architect from UTM (could be mistaken???) to hear what he has to say on this

Like I said, this is a case of confusing between Arabs and Islam. They are not one and the same.

Ok, then I rephrase, why are you not crying out loud about the lack-of-Malayness in building other than the mosques? The mosque has a primary function, that is the house of Allah, and the architecture represents Islam, and not Malay.

Malays had a lot of unique buildings, Terengganu I am looking right now also unique but also similar to Kedah. Looks nice

Truly the golden age of local movie production.

After Iran revolution 1979, every single muslim majority country want that kind of success too. It started there. Not started from Anwar directly. Anwar just rode on the movement.

Anyway, this film, like most Zain (malay James Bond) theme movies were almost all shot in Hong Kong. Part scene from chinese actors were dubbed. Shaw Brothers simply refused to bring new movie making tech to Singapore/Malaysia so actors from here have to go to Hong Kong instead.

Guys, where can I buy these classic Malay movies?
