It is a wild ambition on the part of S.Korea at making its own stealth jets. But it is starting from a low tech base at developing such an aircraft and there are problem with economies of scale...hence, they wanted international participation. It is even wilder ambition to reach Blk2 or even Blk 3 (which is said to be at F35's level). The US and Europe will never want another peer competitor in the international market. Not to mention the tens of billions needed. If S.Korea accepts barter trade from Indonesia, it is a telling sign..they need to pour more money.

Whether or not it will succeed i.e. something like the Typhoon, Hornets, etc. we will have to take it with a pinch of salt. I would not even think abt blk 2 or 3 at this point of time. The likelihood is S.Korea will end up buying more F35s and a 6th generation fighter from the US because they are more advanced and it will be cheaper (because they do not need to do R&D or start from scratch)
