Libya and Yemen appeal for military aid from Russia

Libyan National Army leader General Khalifa Hafter meets with Russian Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov during a visit to Moscow

Leaders of influential armed movements in Libya and Yemen have appealed for Russian intervention to solve the crises that have ravaged their respective countries in the wake of a regional uprising years ago.

The spokesperson for the self-proclaimed Libyan National Army, which is led by General Khalifa Haftar and represents one of two rival factions attempting to claim control of the country, said Wednesday that Russian support was needed to better equip his forces and help establish a unified national government. Under longtime leader Muammar al-Qaddafi, Libya and Russia enjoyed a strong military relationship, but this fell out after a West-backed 2011 insurgency and a subsequent international ban on selling arms to the Libyan armed forces.

In a statement sent to Russia's state-run Sputnik News, Libyan National Army spokesperson Brigadier General Ahmed al-Mesmari said that "the Russian-Libyan military relationship goes back a long time," adding that "the Libyan National Army is currently completely armed with Russian weapons and its military doctrine is Eastern, therefore Libya's need for Russia is increasing more and more as the war on terror continues."

Meanwhile, Last month, pro-Houthi Supreme Political Council leader Mahdi al-Mashat wrote a letter to Putin himself, according to both the pro-Hadi and pro-Houthi factions of Yemen's official Saba News Agency, as well as Saudi newspaper Asharq Al Awsat. In it, Mashat expressed his desire to strengthen ties between the two governments and expressing hope that Moscow would play a leading role in blocking Saudi-led coalition attacks and ending what the U.N. has called the world's worst humanitarian crisis. The letter was sent on the backdrop of an ongoing battle over the western port city of Al-Hodeidah.

Russia is supposed to be under sanctions

QUOTE(Ngsy1999 @ Oct 9 2018, 10:14 AM)
Why singapore spend so much on the military and buying equipment?

I thought if there is war with malaysia, we can...
*
Answer: we can't

They actually have more and better artillery than we do

And ships and fighters are also useful in countering artillery. One of the best ways to kill artillery is with airstrikes.

I thought if there is war with malaysia, we can simply spam astros mlrs, artillery, howitzer. 1 day barrage can destroyed all the military installation already

How will tanks and fighters and ships counter a barrage of artillery?
*
really hope you are asking and not dupe...

Singapore build up its military as they are tiny island nation surround by all big nation thus they feel threaten and need to defend themselves. plus they have not a good memories with neighbor.

nope...out artillery cannot do shit to them..remember we need time to mobilize and move our asset to position or reaction time. Malaysian maybe good but Singapore is better. they involve in a lot of exercise in and out of country compare to its neighbor thus better reaction time.

by the time we move our asset to position, their F16 and F15 even 1/3 of number will enter our airspace and obliterate military installment from johor up to pahang. they bomb up runaway, hangar, radar and communication thus we cannot do thing. and that is 1/3 of their AF fighter, not include navy and other.

but remember no one want war and with war,the trade route(selat melaka and other)will be affected thus other big superpower may take action to protect their interest. not a good move for any nation here.

Russia has already placed missiles and Spetznaz troops in Libya, intelligence chiefs warned PM Theresa May

Russian military police watching over a traffic square in Syria. General Haftar consider Russian operations to have successfully stabilized Syria

Russia is moving troops and missiles into Libya in a bid to enforce a new stranglehold on the West, Theresa May has been warned.

Intelligence chiefs have told the PM that Vladimir Putin wants to make the wartorn North African country “his new Syria”.

Sources reveal that “dozens” of officers from the GRU military spy service as well as its Spetznaz special forces wing are already on the ground in eastern Libya, initially carrying out training and liaison roles.

Two Russian military bases are already now up and running in the coastal towns of Tobruk and Benghazi, under the cover of the Russian private military company the Wagner Group, which already has outposts there.

Russia’s Kalibr anti-ship missiles and S300 air defence missile systems are also now believed to be on the ground in Libya.

The Kremlin has sided with Libya’s most powerful warlord, General Khalifa Haftar, and is also supplying his troops with heavy equipment.

Haftar – who leads the Libyan National Army – is the defacto military ruler of much of Eastern Libya and is the country's most powerful warlord.

Senior MPs last night called on Downing Street to take urgent action to counter the new Russian threat after The Sun’s revelations.

Commons Foreign Affairs committee chairman Tom Tugendhat said: “It’s is extremely alarming Russia wants to open up a new front against the West in Libya, but it should also come as no surprise.

Cant we slowly build up arty on the johor coast? Maybe few months a few units, no way they will launch full scale assault for such a slow buildup

And when the time comes, 5 minutes and all their bases are destroyed

they have artillery counter system made in Israel. really good to counter artillery thus its not a good option. plus moving asset will cause a lot of fuss this day from politician to citizen so they will know. and dont forget Singapore have their own human intelligence here snooping around.

no good strategy can be implement to make sure thing go smoothly.

Russia donated 3 battalions worth of S-300 anti-air missiles to Syria to help secure its airspace

user posted image

Russia has donated to Syria three battalion sets of S-300PM missile systems of eight launchers each, a military diplomatic source told TASS on Monday.

"On October 1, three battalion sets of S-300PM systems of eight launchers each were delivered to Syria," the source said.

"These systems were previously deployed at one of the Russian aerospace forces’ regiments which now uses the S-400 Triumf systems. The S-300 systems underwent capital repairs at Russian defense enterprises, are in good condition and are capable of performing combat tasks," the source said, adding that the S-300PM systems were handed over to the Syrian side free of charge.

According to the source, along with the launchers Russia delivered more than 100 surface-to-air guided missiles for each battalion.

An agreement on supplies of Russian S-300 missile defense systems to Syria were signed as far back as 2010 but was later frozen. Following the incident with the Russia Ilyushin-20 reconnaissance plane over the Mediterranean, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on September 24, 2018 that Russia would supply S-300 systems to the Syrian army to reinforce its combat capacities.

On Tuesday, Shoigu said Russia had supplied Syria with 49 pieces of equipment as part of the S-300 delivery intended to boost security of the Russian taskforce in that country. The equipment included radars, control vehicles and four launchers. According to the minister, the delivery was finished a day ago.

The S-300 is an air defense missile system able to eliminate advanced aircraft, including planes using stealth technology, medium-range ballistic missiles, tactical and cruise missiles, and also airborne early warning and control (AWACS/AEW&C) aircraft as well as reconnaissance and strike systems.

Israel actually was attacked by its larger neighbors in the past and is still in real danger from current enemies threatening to 'wipe Israel off the map", thus it's military policy is arguably warranted.

Meanwhile, Singapore bases its military policy totally on unfounded suspicions and LKY's paranoia. laugh.gif

357 pekerja kilang bekal senjata, bahan letupan tuntut gaji

To be fair, their subs predate ours (the refurbished Challenger class). Of course we may have planned for a sub fleet as early as 1978, including a negotiation in 1988 for refurbished Oberon class from the UK, a whole decade before RSN submarine fleet. Luckily we didn't. Took another 20 years before we have our scorpene and that's worth it.

Anggota PDRM resah gaji lewat

FARABI SAID AL JABRI

25 September 2018 10:08 AM

KUALA LUMPUR 25 Sept.

Yea. True that..

Kinda jealous.

I guess, their NS kinda makes it easier for their MINDEF to get sufficient budgetary. Since everyone experienced being part of the military, they have sufficient knowledge to appreciate and realise the importance of these asset acquisition.. They're part of "the system" and may ended up having to use it anyway.

As for Malaysia...

While that may be true, the ability of their govt to procure assets through sufficient budget allocation & their indigenous defence industry indeed are something to be envious of.

Don't wanna be the 2nd "Philippines" having to make do with aging inventories due to our own complacency.

We place more importance on making sure the defence budget goes to local vendors and manufacturers in closed bidding deals

We do not develop the local industry to build world class weapons and equipment at domestic prices, instead we allow local manufacturers to get away with inferior quality work for high prices

Also we buy foreign equipment based on vendors' willingness to accommodate mysterious overheads which end up costing twice the market price of the equipment

Plus we do not play with other countries insisting we want to do our own thing in all areas so other countries also don't sell us equipment at cheaper prices

Furthermore, extend the problem of mysterious overheads to the entire country so that the whole country underperforms, ensuring the economy is crippled and hence there is less money for defence budget

And finally the underperformance damages the country until MYR is 3x lower than SGD which means it is literally 3x more expensive to buy military equipment
