No capital punishment doesn't mean release. Can always extradite to US, I'm sure they'd be happy to receive
As always in Msia, the problem is not in legislation, we usually have plenty of that. The problem is in enforcement.

another attack at indian-controlled kashmir

QUOTE
Teen Killed In Grenade Attack In Jammu, Suspect From Hizbul Mujahideen Arrested: Police

A grenade lobbed by a minor at a bus stand in Jammu this afternoon killed a teen and injured at least 30 others, the police said. The attacker, who has been arrested, is a class 9th student, said to be 15 or 16 years old. Police say he was indoctrinated by the Hizbul Mujahideen and tasked to carry out the strike.

The teen who died was 17 years old - Mohammad Sharik, a resident of Uttarakhand's Haridwar, had sustained fatal splinter injuries in the chest. All the injured have been hospitalised and five of them are critical, doctors said. Most of the injured, an officer said, are bus drivers and conductors.

The grenade attack comes three weeks after the suicide bombing at Pulwama in which 40 soldiers died.

The attacker, sources say, is a student of a private school in south Kashmir's Kulgam, who reached Jammu this morning. Questions are now being raised on how he could travel all the way undetected and also against the traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway which is open for only one-way traffic. Yesterday, traffic was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar.

The police said they identified him using the CCTV footage from the area and the help of eyewitnesses. A red rucksack he was carrying helped in the identification.

The teen had mingled with a group of Kashmiris waiting at the bus stand before he lobbed the grenade under a parked bus around 11.30 am.

After the blast, the teen tried to flee to Kashmir. He was caught by the personnel at a police check post at Nagrota, 20 km from Jammu.

"He has confessed to his crime. A Hizbul commander from Kulgam had tasked him with the grenade attack," said Manish K Sinha, an officer of the state police.

The attack, officers said, was aimed at creating communal polarisation in Jammu.

This is the third grenade attack by terrorists in the bus stand area of the city since May last year.

The attack comes a week after the Indian Air Force carried out air strikes on the biggest terror camp of Jaish-e Mohammad in Pakistan's Balakot. Jaish has taken responsibility for the February 14 attack, surprising security forces who said the group's top order in the state has been wiped out.

papuan insurgency claims the lives of 3 indo soldiers

QUOTE
Indonesian soldiers clash with rebels amid tensions over Papua highway

JAKARTA: Three Indonesian soldiers were killed in a clash with dozens of rebels in the eastern province of Papua, the military said late on Thursday, the latest deaths amid high tensions and violence in the restive region.

Papua, a former Dutch colony and the western part of New Guinea island, was incorporated into Indonesia after a widely criticised UN-backed referendum in 1969.

A long-running separatist movement in the region has seen an increase in violence in recent months.

A team of 25 soldiers was ambushed by up to 70 “armed criminals” carrying military-standard weapons and traditional weapons, the Indonesian army said in a statement.

“The team fought back until they were able to drive the armed criminal group back into the forest. Three soldiers died in the attack,” the army said.

Up to 10 rebels were thought to have been killed, but only one of their bodies was found, it added.

Two military helicopters dispatched to evacuate the soldiers also came under fire, the army said.

A spokesman for the rebel group, known as the West Papua Liberation Army, said at least five soldiers had been killed and Indonesian forces had set fire to several houses in the Nduga area. Sebby Sambom did not say how many casualties the group suffered.

Indonesia has deployed hundreds of soldiers to build a major highway connecting the remotest parts of the resource-rich province, after 16 construction workers were killed by separatists late last year.

Since then, fighting between rebels and the Indonesian military has caused hundreds of villagers to flee the Nduga area in western New Guinea island.

President Joko Widodo, who faces an election in April, has vowed to finish the highway project as part of his promise to develop Papua, Indonesia’s poorest region. -- Reuters

Vietnam uses SS-1....not SS-2
*
internally there is not much difference between ss1 and ss2
its still pretty much an upgrade over its fnc lineage
laos uses the same rifle but they dun have much to show

as i said it was all about the team, once they send a coach from the team to brunei and they got very good result
but after he left, the brunei team standing goes downhill from there..

SS2 has slightly longer barrel at 460mm and SS1 at 449mm

SS2 also has heavier barrel, so more resistant to heat buildup...

Of course, no matter how skilled the team is, they won't perform well with sub-par rifle.

At least, SS-2 is comparable to current modern rifles, like Austeyr and M16A4..... if not better than average
*
all the rifles brought to the meet are pretty capable capable weapons, even the old m16s
calling it subpar was a bit of a stretch, they as soldiers shud master their weapons to their fullest potential

QUOTE(balambgarden @ Apr 9 2019, 07:50 PM)
Most modern assault rifle can do that nowadays, that's a pretty common modification. Changing the barrel
*
yes its a pretty minor mods
as i said internally its the same
the major ss2 improvement is on the external on the polymer parts, ergonomics, and updated function like rails to cope with the times

Selection of assault rifle is obviously crucial...of course, M16 is still good and accurate...it has 11 cm grouping at 100 meters. The same team won't perform as good with a AK-47, with average 15 cm grouping at 100 meters.

G36 can be considered as sub par rifle...its barrel is hold in place with a plastic component, which will deform due to excess heat after sustained fire, degrading accuracy significantly and permanently, until repaired.
*
soldier cant really choose what rifle they use
its not for them to make that kinda decision
deswai i said soldier shud master their weapons to their fullest potential

latest ak version can shoot as well as western rifle nowadays
g36 crumbled mostly to political pressure.. other pipul using it dun have such problem

Sigh. To be expected.
don't think there's any Aspide upgrades

The missiles should have expired. I will guess that the Aspide launcher can’t be as easily removed.
*
no point to upgrade since they will be replaced by the lms anyway
and one just launched today

I'm not sure if hydrographic sonar mapping equipment can be packed inside something as small as an ISO container and still work. For one, where does the Sonar transmitter and receiver (which is supposed to be on the underside of the hull, usually set in blisters or domes) go?

IMO hydrographic survey ships are pretty specialized vessels with specialized gear and I doubt all the equipment needed for the job can be limited to fit an ISO container.  laugh.gif

Indonesian soldiers clash with rebels in Papua, 1 soldier dead

JAKARTA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- One Indonesian soldier was shot dead in counter shootings with a rebel group in the country's eastern Papua province on Monday, Indonesian military said.

The incident took place in Mugi of Nduga district where the construction of 4,600 kilometers Trans-Papua Highway project and 16 bridges is underway, spokesman of military Cendrawasih command Colonel Infantry Muhammad Aidi revealed.

Twelve soldiers were suddenly ambushed by the rebels when they were securing the construction of a bridge, the spokesman said.

The soldiers fought back and opened fire at the rebels positioned at a higher ground. The rebels escaped from the ground, but were chased by the soldiers, bloods were recovered on the ground, suggesting the rebels sustained from injuries, said Aidi.

One of the soldiers was shot at his back and "died during evacuation with a helicopter to a hospital in Timika," he said in a statement.

The armed group was led by Egianus Kogoya, who has masterminded a series of attacks against soldiers and construction workers of the Trans-Papua highway construction, according to the spokesman.

Experts said Kogoya's group is part of the rebel group headed by Kelly Kwalik, who led the Free Papua Movement (OPM) insurgency which has been seeking an independent state through guerrilla wars. Kwalik died in a military crackdown in 2009.

Last month three Indonesian soldiers and 10 rebels were killed when about 70 rebels ambushed 25 soldiers in Nduga district, following the massacre of 17 construction workers by the armed group in December.

The military has recently deployed a total of 600 soldiers, consisting of 150 combat engineers, to help complete the construction work.
