it would be interesting if this have start...does this means the person in RMAF and mindef start pushing things???it would be good if finalise within 2 years...

if we get good amount to replace hawk and Aermacchi MB-339 then it will save a lot and introduce new capability into RMAF and save cost...

my only hope is the new contract will get to the old or have experience in dealing with aircraft rather new company if you know what i mean brows.gif brows.gif

DSA 2018: Malaysia’s Boustead lines up second batch of Kedah-class vessels

user posted image

Malaysia’s Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation (BHIC) is preparing a proposal to supply the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) with a second batch of MEKO 100 Kedah-class corvettes, the company has confirmed to Jane’s .

Speaking at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2018 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur on 19 April, Zulkefli bin Mohd Ghazali, BHIC’s head of project planning and co-ordination, said that the company has offered a batch-two design based on the original hull, the licence for which BHIC has acquired.

BHIC has also recently formed a partnership with the RMN to review the design and make improvements based on RMN requirements, he said.

The first batch of six Kedah-class corvettes, referred to in Malaysia as New Generation Patrol Vessels (NGPVs), were built through a partnership between BHIC and Blohm+Voss. The first two vessels were built in Germany between 2001 and 2003 and entered service in 2006. BHIC built the remaining four vessels in Malaysia, the last of which was delivered to the RMN in 2010.

The RMN has a stated requirement for an additional 12 Kedah-class corvettes, which are expected to be built through two additional batches. The acquisition forms part of the RMN’s ’15 to 5’ modernisation programme, through which the RMN plans to consolidate its fleet of 15 ship classes into five to improve cost efficiencies.

Ghazali said that in line with this programme, the batch-two proposal is “budget driven with a cost ceiling we cannot exceed”. Jane’s understands that the targeted unit price of the second-batch ships is less than MYR500 million (USD129 million).

Although most of the proposed dimensions and specifications of the batch-two class are the same as the batch-one vessels, Ghazali added that cost efficiencies will be achieved by “scaling down” some of the configurations and capabilities, including weapons systems.

Is this still on?
*
so...its on.... doh.gif doh.gif

MYR500 million per ship??or batch??plus a scaling down ship..how much scaling down can kedah class can get...the first batch already naked

hope its just news only....nothing set in motion. better RMN focus on LCS and LMS first rather than adding more strain also with economic uncertainties. after finish both project then move on other....

It is last years news, what I'm finding out is if this proposal has gained any traction with the Admirals & MENHAN or have they dropped it?
*
hard to say bro...from what i know before GE,all people involve push for that with support from zahid hamidi and H2O(but some said this guy dont support) also admiral support since its the fast way to get new ship for Navy that lack ship like us.

but now with all the people replace and new menhan its just hard to see if it pull through. i hear even before GE,PH people hate the idea and thought there is a better way than Kedah class at that price range but so far its a mystery.

while searching tenet this is the thing i found(still reading and searching) but its in December. maybe with new guy entering upper class mindef things will change.

If the gov opted for this type of sub, with the option of type 209 or never....then we have no choice but to accept.

Operational cost is classified, but not up to secret level. Its known as it involved companies as well. What make sub secret is the position of it when at sea.
*
you quite docile on this matter..usually when involve our subs, you will become defensive... laugh.gif

actually when discussing about it, i kinda against that type of way. for me scorpene and Type 209 a both a good sub but scorpene got advantage in term new design. also its also have space for further/future upgrade. that is among some of points i talk.if i was wrong please tell me.

and why i heard some talk about mast EO periscope and AIP for scorpene??do RMN upgrade to that recently??or for future??

hmm, with funds i think better replace nuri and get the fighters up n running first..
isnt theirs inferior?

209 is kinda old right?
*
i dont thik there is a plan to replace nuri since TDM want to upgrade it.

type 209 is old but got a lot of upgrade and support over the years so its good.

hard to say about inferior or not. if got good AIP and sensor, it will become good. plus most subs like TNI and RMN operate in their water so they usually got environment advantage.

QUOTE(azriel @ Feb 17 2019, 10:25 PM)

Thats already 6 new subs. The remaining 6 subs is the planning. Whether or not the target of a total of 12 new subs could be achieved BY 2024 only time will tell.
*
any reason or factor with TNI future procurement??look they kinda speed up the process without considering the economic situation...

also all those subs got AIP right???can share any article on what type of AIP and battery??

209 has many versions. I have been on board the one belongs to Peru. Their subs quite old.... the one with korean & indon quite modern. But still, because of the design, 209 has limitaton in term of speed & trim, also weapon loads.

thank you for that... any comment about mast EO periscope and AIP for scorpene??its just rumor i heard... laugh.gif

(Hint, hint.)
Not at all. I think it's an excellent point. Keywords: [i[]“The (aerospace) industry’s export value reached RM8.51 billion, comprising mainly of aerospace parts and components,” he said.

Citing a report, Darell said aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing forecast that more than 40,000 new aircraft would be needed globally by 2037 and about 16,000 aircraft would be delivered to the Asia-Pacific region.[/i]

Malaysia can develop its manufacturing industry, and 2030 is not too short a timeframe to do it in. Unlike say finance or biotech R&D, it's not an excessively knowledge-heavy industry, so we can potentially take this away from Singapore. They just can't beat the lower cost of the Msian environment.
*
the reason i think its high/hard is cause we not compete with SG only. Indon also heading toward that and they are more cheaper. plus their govt keep promote the industry wherever they going.

US wants to know if Pakistan used US-built F-16 jets to down Indian warplane

ISLAMABAD: The United States is "seeking information" on whether Pakistan used US-built F-16 jets to down an Indian warplane, the US Embassy in Islamabad said on Sunday (Mar 3), which may violate the F-16 sale agreements between Washington and Pakistan.

Pakistan says it did not use F-16s in shooting down an Indian warplane when it crossed the Line of Control that acts as a de facto border in Kashmir.

Islamabad says this was an act of self defence.

"We are aware of these reports and are seeking more information," a US Embassy spokesperson told Reuters.

"We take all allegations of misuse of defense articles very seriously."

US often inserts restrictions on how its exported military hardware can be used through so-called end-user agreements.

Indonesia working with Korea on KFX

Malaysia should tumpang with Indonesia and korea
*
nope...malaysia not up to that yet...even singkie which got a buttload of jet fighter dont produce it...

involving in R&D and production sure look good on papers but the commitment need in term of cash and knowledge is really high. even when the programs start, korea thought they had it all figure out but keep getting speed bump due to their limited technologies thus need US and other companies help to further it. and that is koreans which have a lot of industry to support growth..

for now we cant even get to predict correctly the price will be....lets just hope it will be within reached after weapon and sensor integration to keep up with other gen aircraft.

Home Ministry proposes increase in allowance for RELA members

user posted image

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 19 — The Home Ministry has proposed that the allowance of People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) officers and members be raised by RM2 an hour, said its minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said that would see Rela officers’ allowance increase from RM7.80 an hour to RM9.80 an hour, while that for the members would be raised from RM6 an hour to RM8 an hour.

“The ministry will try to get the raise implemented this year. Nevertheless, it will depend on the Finance Ministry’s approval because it will involve an additional allocation of RM10 million per year compared to the existing annual grant of RM40 million,” he told reporters after attending Rela’s 47th anniversary celebration at the ministry here today.

Muhyiddin, who felt that the additional allocation was not excessive, said he would write a supporting letter to the Finance Ministry to get the proposal implemented.

Earlier, in his speech, he said the proposal to raise the allowance had taken into account the cost of living and welfare of all 3.1 million Rela members and their families, adding that Rela’s allowance was last reviewed seven years ago, in 2012.

Muhyiddin said Rela’s scope and jurisdiction also needed to be reviewed so that the department’s role could be improved, and expressed his personal appreciation and thanks to the Rela team.
