Hi there, i'm a former owner of 2014 first batch Iriz 1.3 MT. Switched over to current 1.5H Myvi.
I bought the Iriz as my first car with huge discount offered during 2015 CNY promotion, priced dropped from 47k to 41k. I insisted to take the manual was due to the user review i read on the non-refinement CVT, and i has no problem to live with the sweet manual although i travelling daily with peak hour traffic.
Truely spoken, Iriz is really a much solid car compared to Myvi, although current Myvi MG3 has slightly exceed 1 ton compared to previous gen, yet the Iriz 1.3 already weighted about 1.2 ton. It was mainly due to the chassis material and that's what contributed to the solid feel in the Iriz in my opinion.
To share my experience about these 2 models which i owned and owning:
1) Driving Experience
- Iriz drives better in corner and feel more solid and planted. Myvi drives not bad, but it do give you the feel to slowing it down a little in corner. Anyhow, warm reminder : don't take corner with higher speed la ha, if there's sand and we overlooked, then god bless.
- Highway cruising. Myvi drives pretty well while cruising with the national speed limit, doesn't feel floaty and it is stable. For Iriz, the extra feeling i get with it during highway cruising, is the feel of sturdiness of it's chassis. Less likely that i'm cruising with higher speed like 150/160 kmh, so i can't comment further.
- Acceleration wise, although current Myvi 1.5H is more capable, but the sweet 1.3 MT paired in the Iriz do gives me better experience though. I could downshift and just step hard the throttle, then it will go. Probably due to the gearbox setting in the Myvi to excel in FC, it is lazy to downshift when i need it to.
- Inching in traffic. Both can get the job nicely done, just the manual Iriz need extra gear shifting and pedal pressing.
2) Build Quality
- Both are there the same in my opinion. Small rattles happen in both car, as long as didn't affect the car driving performace, i'm just ignoring and live with them.
3) Features
- Both have the same safety features like what stated in the brochure (Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS, EBD, Hill Assist....), except Myvi has extra 4 airbags over the lower spec-ed Iriz 1.3. Other features like rear viper function during rain while reversing, signal indication for lane switching (Iriz 5 blinks, Myvi 3 blinks)
- Myvi has electric fold side mirror than the lower spec-ed Iriz which need manual fold
- Current Myvi already spec with 1.5 alloy wheels, that allows me to get more variety on tyre than the 14 inch in the 1.3 that i eventually upsized to 15.
- Iriz has the "Locate Me" function which i find it real useful in parking lot. Current Myvi doesn't have this (maybe i didn't realize)
- Both have EPS. But the EPS nature in the Iriz give better experience to driver in my opinion, the weight of the steering varies with speed is much noticeable in the Iriz.
- Both exterior are a looker to my opinion, just Myvi has slight better proposition than the Iriz.
- Interior spacious, Myvi win undoubtedly due to the smaller size of seats offered. The seat in Iriz is much bigger in size, and hence contribute to more comfortable sitting position on both driver and passenger's perception.
The reason i sold the Iriz and get the new Myvi:
- Probably due to the first batch of car, which things are known to be rectified and enhanced from time to time, i'd changed the alternator, water pump of the car which already cost almost 1k for both items. I take good care of my car, and always practicing a good habit in servicing my car, change Engine Oil, Gear Oil, plugs earlier, even few hundreds km earlier than they dues, maybe luck is not on my side la ha, the car still has issues as mentioned above. I even flushed the radiator few times since i noticed the inner surface of the radiator tank hose rusted.
- Other than that, it has some unknown issue on the steering-driveshaft-suspension area. Even i sent for inspection at the HQ, yet no luck and the technician unable to rectify what's went wrong.
- Based on the bad experiences i had with the Iriz, plus with the reduced price during the Tax Holiday, i eventually took the Myvi 1.5H.
- In near future, my fiance might need to drive as well, and hence i decided to switch from the Iriz MT to Myvi AT.
In a nutshell, both car are worth the money, just depends what kind of value you need while spend the money. Certainly both car is not underspec-ed in my opinion. As fulfilling the purpose of a daily commute car, both is good to me.
Hope my experiences in both car, gives you and other a reference in decision making. Luck certainly play a part in the period we own the car. Cheers!
