yo..
so my lil bro is gonna take over my car..

and now im considering to get another car.
i have no plans to upgrade to a honda/toyota or anything. i wish to keep budget <60k and use the extra money for other better things than spending on a car.

so idk to get back iriz or the new myvi.

what are your thoughts?

what i've like the iriz so far after owning for 3 years is
1) safety and solid driving. i actually enjoy driving this car a lot. and im quite a heavy footer, so the iriz's sturdiness gives me a lot of confidence actually.

2) related to the point above, driving on highway at 100+ km/h the car feels very planted, the steering is tight and grippy, etc. proton's car handling is really top notch.

3) so far no major or minor problems (apart from the god forsaken poor QC and build quality like dashboard and door rattling, etc)

what i've disliked:
1) petrol consumption (its utter shit. same FC as my 2.0 Sonata at home, for a 1.3 car?? smh.)

2) poor build quality or quality control, dashboard/door rattling. unaligned glovebox, etc.

3) routine servicing. idk how much better perodua's is, but everytime i send my car for service (every 6 months), it takes 3 hours+ just for a simple routine engine oil change. so i feel that everytime i need to send my car for service which is basically twice a year, i need to spend like 1 entire day at the SC.

so i'm trying to see feedback from current myvi owners to make my decision.

Let simplify your whole p1 Iriz comparisons to the following:
- p2 resale value win p1 hands down
*
hmm about this, is it really that much a difference? idk my 1.3 iriz exec just renewed insurance, the valuation was about 26k for a 3 year old car.
the otr price was 48k at that time, but my actual cost was only 42k due to various discounts. so 42-26k= 16k depreciation for 3 years isn't that bad right?
and after checking for myvi 1.3 second hand prices online, its about 30k. no doubt p2 resale value is higher, but that 4~5k difference doesn't exactly scream like i lost a lot of money to warrant getting a car based on the 2nd hand resale value alone.

Let simplify your whole p1 Iriz comparisons to the following:
- p1 repairs bill scare the shyt out of p2 happy myvi faces
- p2 anytime a smart consumer choice than p1 miserable failing campro tech
*
anyway idk why this is still floating around as well. my iriz for 3 years masuk service center for routine servicing only (engine oil, oil filter) cost about rm 140 each time?

i found online it says http://www.perodua.com.my/service-maintena...wmyvi-1500cc/10
for myvi first 10k service (basic engine oil), totals about RM 188? that's more than my iriz wei.

im even more shocked when i see 20k service, RM 357.43 ???

you compare http://helios.apdsecureapp.com/proton/serv...vice%20Menu.pdf
for iriz every 10k service (basic engine oil), for first 3 service meaning 1k, 10k and 20k its only RM 122, after that including labour its RM 192.

i dont see how p2 is cheaper than p1 at this point..
no seriously, go see the link and compare for yourself.
why is the myvi's maintenance so much more expensive? hmm.gif

Few points from my experiences
1. Myvi uses electric power steering where as proton still having hydraulic system if I am not wrong. I always felt the confidence when I was using proton saga fl.
Being a 1.5adv owner I can assure you that it is stable untill 140kmph with driver alone. Sometimes the steering looks very light but will get used to it.

2. Build quality is average. I am fed up with rattling sounds from Myvi. I went to service Centre for fixing this issue atleast 3 times, but it will continue rattling here and there.

3. Ride comfort: I would say Alza suspension is good compared with Myvi, though they are from different category.

4. FC is really good for a 1.5AT gear box. I used to get an avg 12kmpl in KL city drive and 17-18kmpl on highway, keeping at speeds 100-130kmpl.

5. Sound proofing is not great. Especially when it rains, the water splash on the wheel well is obvious.

6. With upgraded speakers and a added underseat sub, will get a decent music listening experience, but still need to work on sound proofing
*
1. iriz uses EPS as well, its very light when low speeds like driving in parking lot can literally use 1 finger to turn it.
but what i like about the iriz is, as you drive your speed increases, the steering becomes tighter and tighter the faster you go. so when driving in town its light and easy to turn, but once you drive highway at speeds the steering becomes tight and grippy. its a very very very nice feeling. idk how to explain. does the myvi EPS behave the same way?

2. as for this, im concerned. because im sick of rattling sounds from my Iriz too. if Myvi also got rattling sound then i really rclxub.gif
i heard the new Myvi has a lot of qc or build quality issues? because they rush to produce due to so many orders. is that true?

4. yeap one thing about p2 they always have better FC than p1 cars.

5. oh yea speaking of this, how is the myvi's shell? the iriz shell like doors and roof is pretty solid as well. gives a loud solid "thunk" instead of tin milo sound when opening/closing door, or when its raining too.

i know the Myvi also got 5 star ancap like Iriz, but the lack of HPF reinforcement makes it seem less solid to me..

Again simplify the situation, go sit by a busy roadside cafe & you will see the truth of your counting & seeing. Otherwise, we are happy for you of making up your mind of getting a new Iriz, congrats!
*
huh? dont know whats your problem

people asking about opinions and real talk, you giving some mythical hearsay arguments. or bringing up some proton issues from 20 years ago. i bet you're one of those who still harp about the power windows of proton.
im giving my experiences as a current Iriz owner. and speaking as one, i'm fairly satisfied with the Iriz. and im looking to see if the new Myvi could give me or fit the same requirements barring some give and take of both brands (e.g p1 drives better, but p2 has better fc)

if got nothing to contribute then just keep quiet. sweat.gif

Myvi is using 'FULLY SYNTHETIC' while Iriz is using 'SEMI SYNTHETIC.. whistling.gif  whistling.gif  whistling.gif

The price different for that costs about Rm60+ cool2.gif  cool2.gif

So Yeah!! thumbsup.gif  thumbsup.gif
*
ahh okay that explains it then.
but im surprised to see for 20k and 30k, still got quite a lot of additional servicing items that needs to be changed other than the basic engine oil and oil filter.
e.g for 20k service, myvi need to change brake fluid? << so fast meh?
then myvi air filter is 60 bucks? rclxub.gif my iriz air filter 16 ringgit only. why is it so much higher for the myvi?

edit:

so upon further inspection, myvi need change bruke fluid every 20k km while iriz changes every 40k km.
while myvi air filter costs 60 bucks while iriz is 16 bucks. both changes every 20k km as well.
another one, spark plugs cost 220 ringgit for myvi while iriz costs 51 ringgit? wtf?

and for 40k km service
myvi cost = 506.22 source = http://www.perodua.com.my/service-maintena...wmyvi-1500cc/40
iriz cost = 266.79 source = http://helios.apdsecureapp.com/proton/serv...vice%20Menu.pdf

for 50k km service
myvi cost = 484.31 source = http://www.perodua.com.my/service-maintena...wmyvi-1500cc/51
iriz cost = 192.01 source = http://helios.apdsecureapp.com/proton/serv...vice%20Menu.pdf

the iriz's first major service comes at 60k km, and that also is only rm708.
and myvi's 60k km service costs 415.41

so this is an honest question. how is myvi supposedly the cheaper car to maintain since people always say p2 maintenance very cheap compared to p1, etc.

Sorry to say but I haven't seen any new car number plates with Iriz on the roads nowadays

Mostly all Myvi, City and Bezza

If u think Iriz is superior, pls get another Iriz then

Also I don't think you'll be able to wait 4 - 6 months for a new Myvi

The sales volume speak wonders which car is superior smile.gif

err is it so hard to have a civil discussion about pros and cons of a product especially on a forum?
whats the point of this whole thread then? just to be fanboys?

i got kutuk2 your beloved myvi? i'm asking LEGIT and REAL questions. i'm asking OWNER'S experiences, but what i got was just blank replies or just direct attacking for even daring to ask if their beloved myvi has any cons or problems.. (apart from a few of you who have replied me or even pm me about the stuffs i was asking about, thanks for giving me more insight and personal experiences with the car).

tanya sikit2 get hostile replies. ada pulak yang savage savage. what's so savage? it makes you (not you) sound like some 5 year old kid.

you know what's more sia sui? upon reading and searching the V1 and V2 threads for some information i was looking for, the same smart asses who replied like that were complaining they got issues with their car. Then got the nerve to answer me as if their god beloved car is super the best and can go no wrong. doh.gif

anyway can somebody actually answer me this?

inb4 someone calls me a proton fanboy.

I've owned and driven (in order)
1) Myvi 1.5 lagi best (handed down to me from my older brother)
2) Iriz 1.3 (my own personal car, brother sold off the myvi 1.5)

so now since my younger brother needs a car, im handing down my Iriz to him.
and im not interested in spending >60k for a car. so im back to either Iriz or Myvi.

So if you have any good perodua SA to recommend, please do so.

I will go for a test drive myself and consider the offers between the iriz or this.

out of the box, the myvi seems good on paper vs the iriz.

but speaking from my own personal experiences of owning the iriz, and upon researching stuffs online from owner's review of both cars.
what i can say is:
places where the myvi > iriz
- fuel consumption
- nicer looks (in my opinion)
- led lights
- a full alloy rim spare tyre is very good.
- tng card reader
- modern AC controller, memory function is genius.
- cabin space
- eco idle if that's your thing.
- ASA is a gimmick, but sure its nicer to have it than not have it.

places where the iriz > myvi
- ride and handling
- spirited driving (as in taking corners confidently, if cucuk belakang of course myvi win)
driving at above speed limits, the iriz is still better planted to the road and is more solid because its simple. iriz is 200kgs heavier.

I would like to comment, there are actually MANY refinement stuffs that Iriz does way better than Myvi. These stuff do not appear obvious, so as an owner of Iriz im listing it out here because these are stuffs i would need to consider losing out when or if i switch over to the new myvi.
comparing 1.5 AV Myvi vs 1.6 Premium Iriz
- DRL lights
- auto-fold side mirrors
- boot lamp (seriously myvi dont have this basic thing?)
- drive side vanity mirrors
- Hill Hold Assist functionality (where if you're driving up a slope, if you press brake once, when you release the brake, the car will continue braking for you until you press the accelerator paddle, this is very neat because it stops the car from rolling back especially when you want to accelerate after braking < i tried searching but i cant seem to find it available for Myvi, only found hill START assist. idk if its the same thing.
- auto car door lock after driving
- auto rear-wiper, when your wipers are turned ON, and you engage Reverse gear, the back wipers will automatically turn on.
- when you unlock your car, the first light turns on itself and the cabin light turns on as well without opening the door yet, very good if you are in dark places. same thing when you double lock your car the small light turns on itself and goes away after 30 seconds. < different from follow me home lamp which i believe both cars have because its a manual function where you need to turn on the lights manually before getting out of the car.

^- these are just stuffs i can think right off the top of my head. If got anything missing or im wrong about something feel free to correct me.

Hi there! Myvi AV 2018 user here,
- DRL lights -  (Yup, myvi gen3 does not have it)

- auto-fold side mirrors / auto car door lock  -  (Does not have it as well, Rm150 to install it)

- boot lamp  -  (Who said myvi does not have a boot lamp huh? i've even change mine to LED)

- drive side vanity mirrors  -  (Nop, myvi does not have it)

- Hill Hold Assist functionality  -  (Myvi definitely has this function)

- auto rear-wiper, when your wipers are turned ON, and you engage Reverse gear, the back wipers will automatically turn on.  -  (Myvi has this function as well)

-  (Myvi has this function as well)
From what i've observed, modern cars are using Shark-fin type of antenna or even built-in glass antenna.
Why is Proton car's antenna still so damn long like RC car?
*
Hi there, thanks for your input. Im glad to be corrected.

The things i mention are just stuff i had in iriz but couldnt seem to find in the reviews. Its good to know that they have it in myvi as well.

So as is stands from what i listed, its just the drl, auto fold and driver side mirrors that are missing from the myvi.

As for the antenna well the 1.6 models all use short antenna like old myvi. As for shark fin design well iriz is a 2014 car. Havent undergo any facelift or anything yet so.. and i agree the long antenna is fugly

So i just got back from test driving the 1.5 Advance model

First let me talk about the things I liked:
1) the 1.5 engine is good. its plenty powerful. BUT the acceleration is NOT good.
2) the aircond control looks and the way it work - BUT its annoying because there's not a 1 button to turn off AC, you must manually press the lower temperature button till it reaches Off. so if you go up till 5 and above, then you have to click click click click click then only AC is off. can foresee it will be mighty annoying having to do that everytime you get out of the car.
3) built in smart tag.
4) the looks really is nice. i saw white and silver and black. if i were to get one, i cant even decide. I like the black one a lot, but sometimes see white looks nice pulak, then see silver also looks nice. tongue.gif
5) spare tyre is a full alloy rim, and with that in mind, the rear is still really spacious lol. the legroom is big.
6) the back seat you can recline.

ok now to the part where i absolutely did not like, some are borderline hate:
1) the build quality. like seriously.

-the handbrake lever is so fricking short? and also so plasticky and hollow feeling, like a toy. holding it with grip could give you the impression if you were to grip any tighter you would break it.

-same goes to the transmission stick. its so hard to see whether you shifted to N or D, no way to tell so must look from the info cluster panel in front to be sure.. why the hell they decided to cover the stick up with some saggy leather looking thing. doh.gif

-wiper and signal stalks. enough said. its straight trash. looks cheap while the dashboard and steering looks decently good already. makes it really stand out and look so out of place. it is cheap looking and cheap feeling when you hold it. and on that note, they still use that black stick on the speedometer to reset trips and stuff. that is so 1980. you cant reset it from your signal stalks unlike the iriz or many other cars?

2) the chair is not nice. compared to my Iriz at least. < my biggest gripe.
yes its semi bucket seat, but it doesn't have enough cushion for side and thigh supports. not only that, the seats are rather "flat", its not designed to follow our body texture and position when sitting, unlike the one in iriz where it follows our body contour nicely.
just to tell you why i feel this one the most, i give u a non exaggerating comparison, when im stuck in a jam in the Iriz, i wont rage. cause at least the seat is comfortable to sit on. I can play phone and listen to songs peacefully still.
this one if i stuck in jam i conlanfirm will rage, cause i will rather get out of the car ASAP than continue stuck sitting in that sit for long periods. same goes to long distance travelling..

and then right, the seats are rather thin? or hollow? not sure how to describe it accurately, but i could feel like the frame of the chairs already.
no seriously. iriz seats are something i take for granted every day.

3) the acceleration. it has a good 1.5 engine. but the 4AT doesnt do it justice. idk why the acceleration feels very reluctant or slow? i tried to overtake cars just now, and its just... well quite disappointing.
but once the acceleration part is over, then suddenly you get a surge of power coming to you. but you no longer need it. so you have to brake instead. < if in highway sure not a problem, but in city driving acceleration is rather slow or bad then suddenly so much power from the 1.5 engine comes in later.

4) the central locking. my fucking god. when i press the internal lock button for the first time i thought someone threw stones at the car. what in the actual fuck was that? why is it so loud? and its the SNAPPY SNAP kind of loud.. like someone braking your bones kind of snap sound it makes.. just WHY???

anyway, if i go myvi i will thoroughly miss my iriz auto lock and unlock as well. auto lock when the car goes above 30km/h. auto unlock when you pull the door lever just like continentals.
and i found out you cant lock/unlock the doors from the door lever side as well. have to use the friggin button all the time at the center.

this along with all the other buttons you have the press in the car.. lets play a game of how many times you have to press buttons before you can drive..
1) engine start stop (okay this one is unfair but lets just put in for the LOL)
2) eco idle off
3) side mirrors unfold
4) air cond. what fan speed you like? 4 or 5? so click click click click.
5) lock the car.

oh wait, you forgot to take something, so unlock the car with a bone snapping sound. oh wait your gf complain radio too loud, so press some more buttons. <okay thats a joke but you get my point. seriously a lot of buttons to press lor.

anyway, thats what i feel at least..
so those are my main impressions after driving it. took it for a real test drive, was like an hour long with the SA. i went to city roads with potholes, i went highway did 4~5k rpm. i did everything la basically, even tried the eco idle and ASA. i also did door testing many times. the stuff i didnt comment on i guess its comparably as good as the Iriz like door closing "thunk" sound, etc.

Too young too dumb.. Not sure why I rushed to get the new Myvi 2018
switched from Myvi Ezi

Priced at RM55k.. poor interior installation causing rattling issue hardly can be fixed
This price point is pretty premium.. too young too dumb..

Regretsssss

And I found out my car have this weird problem where when I go over unequal road or pothole, the (not sure what the term called) the tiang of 2 tires is vibrating. It sounds like the thing is not fitted properly or locked tightly
*
while talking to SA just now when i test drive, i ask him any problems from your previous customers? any complaints?

he said majority of them come back to complaint to him about rattling rattling sounds.

so yeah idk im also worried to take it if it has such poor build quality.

the test drive car i drove was solid though. everything was flustered, not a single rattling sound.

But you won't get any peace after work when you're driving home.. I went nuts..
I usually off the radio to enjoy peace, but all you heard is rattling sound of interior plastics

does radio at least help cover some of the rattling noise?

you and i both share the same thoughts then.
both are decent and would certainly do their jobs well as a daily commute.

the only difference with your experience is, for me the only problems i had with my Iriz was the rattling noises.
So for me both cars are equally as good at excelling in their strong points vs the other, there's no "disadvantage" like one breaks down more than the other or this kind of thing.

So right now for me, its just a matter of balancing whether the stuffs I would lose when switching over from Iriz (ride and handling, driving experience, the comfy seats, etc) vs what I would get if i take new Myvi (a newer car that looks modern-ish, better FC, etc). and also seeing whether the cons of Myvi I could live with or not.

and also right now my concern now is regarding the maintenance.
from what i've seen from online official maintenance schedule and pricing, its over the roof compared to the Iriz. i will make a separate post about it and hope current owners can confirm or shed some light.

nah no worries. its better to do your own research and test drive all your options and decide for yourself.

do your due diligence and ask the questions you want to ask now to avoid headaches in the future.

just ignore the repulsive fanboys or naysayers that go "go get a golf gti instead" kind of replies.

because at the end of the day, after doing your own research and going with what you want, you can set reasonable expectations of what you can expect from the car.

and once you have set the reasonable expectations for the car, you wont get the regret or disappointed feeling. you get what you paid for.

unless you blast it at very high volume la.. but u will get annoyed over time

even at high volume, the rattling noise beside your door still sound clear to you

dashboard one even worse, but hardly can listen it if blasting high volume
*
have you sent it to SC to get them to resolve it?

last time my Iriz initially had rattling problems, then sent it in and they manage to fix it by adding extra IP foam padding.

but after 6months+ the rattling gradually just came back as i suspect the foam already loosen or something.

so till now i just live with it. it has its own mood as well, some days or weeks it wouldnt rattle, then the next day it rattles. laugh.gif laugh.gif

but the only reason i can live with it is because the rattling isnt that bad la, its just a bit annoying but not very disruptive kind of rattling like old car or whatever.

idk how bad the rattling problems of new myvi are though in comparison. but from what i've seen, a lot of new myvi owners are complaining about the poor build quality.

U have to consider eco idle battery cost also. Not cheap. My friend bezza after 1 year plus or 30,000km only battery dead . Cost around rm400+ to replace. So have to do the math wherether the extra cost to get eco idle to save some fuel is worth it? Also if not using it but spending extra to get the 1.5 variant. The ASA feature imo is a gimmick (or still in infant stage).

Imo if you're concern about the upkeep of the car. Best to get the 1.3 myvi without eco idle. If you've decided to get myvi la. Gota do proper profit and loss haha comprising all sorts of cost.

Let this serve as a useful comparison for everyone (whether current owners or prospective buyers) deciding between Myvi or Iriz.

Did you include the offset that Proton quote is for semi-synthetic while Perodua quote is for fully synthetic?

If not, the 800 ringgit difference we can offset by the 11 servicing interval in your chart. This comes up around RM72 per service. So as long as PROTON's fully synthetic won't have an additional cost of RM72, then Iriz will be cheaper to maintain.

All in all, I think the difference between the 2 car is not that much of a difference.

I was comparing between Persona & Myvi last time, but the deal breaker for me was Proton's CVT. Yes it was refined, but I can still feel the jerk in low traffic. I'm using Myvi 1.5AV since March (16,000 km now).

im just using official service items and schedule.
myvi can only use that type of EO right if im not mistaken. ( feel free to correct me on this)
as for the iriz, can use mineral, semi and fully syn. SC and officially as per user manual, it recommends that semi-syn is more than enough for Iriz. and if you send for service they will default auto use semi-syn oil. If you want fully syn you have to request for it.

So dont need to go into the fully syn vs semi-syn debate. I just follow what the car makers think is best or adequate enough for the cars that they produced. They know better than us.

And besides its a freaking campro engine, its a robust tank. Proton knows it. Not like use fully syn on that campro will suddenly make the campro become a better engine lol.

So yeah, as per official servicing items, the cost is what it is as i have calculated above.

anyway yeah i get your point on the bolded item as well. A lot of people have difficulties or just hate the cvt on the iriz.
As for me, well I could adapt it since day one. So i dont find it a problem. Just need to learn that CVT especially Punch CVT, works differently than a 4AT.
Hence the transmission on Myvi or Iriz is not a deal breaker for me. Both are fine for me, working as intended.

But my gripe with this 4AT though, its reluctant to downshift when you tekan minyak. Thats what i felt when i went test drive yesterday. Making overtaking acceleration seem slower.. At least i feel its slower and more laggy than my 1.3 iriz, yes even with CVT, and also my old myvi 1.5 lagi best..

I suspect its due to the way they tune it to make it more fuel saving and for the EEV status of the car, etc.. Which is quite a shame, because i like the 1.5l dual vvti engine a lot more.

Oh and one more thing, for all the complaints the Iriz had for the engine + cvt transmission noises, the new Myvi's engine + transmission is even louder. I cant be the only one who thinks its loud right? Even every review video i checked out on youtube, when you pedal its seriously loud the engine sound. Overall NVH the Iriz still performs better than the new Myvi.

I sit in my friend's Iriz once.. The rattles usually is around the dashboard area right?

That one is minor, try Myvi..  laugh.gif

360 rattling one

yeap you're right, the infamous dashboard rattling sounds.
and yes its minor, thats why i could live with my iriz rattlings.
it doesnt make me rage or anything, but its more like a reminder that its still proton. they can never have proper build quality.

so for me its a shame also that the new myvi suffers from the same problems. because i was really hoping to get out of this rattling loop that i've been in. lol

I used Saga FLX before, so believe me I have no problem driving with the CVT. But it doesn't change the fact that I hate the way Punch CVT behave. If they can make the CVT how Toyota & Honda did, then I would not hate it as much I think.

I believe you are right about Myvi gearbox tuning. But believe me, I have no issue overtaking now. Just like you said, you need to learn the gearbox behavior then you won't have any problem at all.

From your response you do seem to be more inclined to buy another Iriz. Maybe wait for the facelift version?  icon_idea.gif

ahh well cant compare saga flx ones. even old iriz before updated ecu and tcu is bad.
mine after updated ecu and tcu, eliminated the "lag" already. as for the jerk i experience it once in a blue moon only when in traffic jam. its more like manual jerk. well its clutch based CVT so yeah same behaviour.

yeap you are right, i have no problems adapting to either one. its just a matter of getting used to it. so i believe once i get used to the car, i will know how to accelerate it.
but one thing that is not about adapting is, the engine + transmission noise in this new myvi. its loud, the engine roars when u tekan minyak.

actually no, im more inclined to get the Myvi atm.

just not fully convinced. because i value driving experience a lot as well. lets just put it this way, myvi is a reliable car that gets you from point A to B to C all the way to Z with no fuss and gives you some nice bells and whistles to play with along the way. but its exactly just that, the car has no character whatsoever. the iriz on the other hand, to put it in simple terms, fun despite some of its flaws. its the kind car that would give you satisfaction driving it.

well not many people are concerned about it, the majority just needs a reliable car to get from point a to b so its not hard to see why people would pick myvi readily.
