dude, choosing camera is best to suit your needs. different needs will result in different camera recommendation. so what is your needs?
but then again, based solely on spec itself, i'd go with the G7. ada ooomph! |

I'd go for d S3 (or S5 if u can get it)
Reasons: - better grip - proven quality n reliabily - more 'pro' look |

you can forget the 550uz...u might be awed by the fact that it has 18x zoom and all. and the fact it looks great. but it is difficult to use and it has some issues with image quality like Purple fringing and distortion when zoomed in.
it is also priced higher than the s3is which performs much better in terms of macro, image quality, sharpness and not to mention a better video mode g7 produces some of the best images among the prosumers but it only has 6X zoom. it is also expensive. but if u dont mind the lack of zoom and like manual control then it is a good choice. it is as near as a dslr as u want |

hmm..maybe get a G7..as a starter...dun need additional convertor or sort 1st..
just play around with the Manual.. just in case u jump into DSLR..pretty soon.. a still compact size G7 serve u well... as u might not lugging ur DSLR everywer u go. but still able to provide u clear quality pic just with lesser control compare to DSLR. |

I have tested Olympus 550uz @ lowyat Plaza yesterday. the 18x zoom with IS works quite well. just too noisy and the PF quite serious when i zoom in to max in playback.
