Oh forgot to add:
If you can comfortably own a Porsche, you can easily afford anything a 86/BRZ throw at you.

However as a daily driver, I very much prefer my 1999 proton Iswara auto over my GT86 manual, that Kinda speaks a lot about the car daily driving comfort LOL

Transmission aside, the extreme category tires along with stiffer STI engine/transmission/strut mounting replacements and the stupid heavy and long doors, crazy fuel consumption (worse than an almost 20 year old carburetor, but mainly driver issue lol)
NOPE. lol

987.2 Boxster 2.9 reporting for duty  brows.gif

Definitely on track Lotus is better because of the weight difference and superior balance. Porsche is a bit too heavy for track work: it can handle for a few laps but that's about it. If I want to step up my hardcore game, a Lotus it will have to be.

Only the old 911 turbo/GT2 are called widow makers. Nowadays the front end and back end of a 911 is very well in sync, if not they will lose a lot of customer. For Mid-engine Cayman/Boxster platform, they are hardly tail happy: more like tail snappy when at 9/10s of the traction limit.

GT86 are meant to be tail happy  thumbsup.gif and it is set up that way no? I would love to own one also as a daily cause it seems that the running costs is relatively low. Don't underestimate driver training. Not only keeps you safe but also makes u enjoy driving better. Have fun.

is there huge different between 987.1 n .2 ?
other than some cosmetic change (rear light, steering) PDK exclude and hydraulic steering ?

Main & major difference is the engine.

987.1 = M97 (2.7 or 3.4) engine with IMS bearing
987.2 = 9A1 (2.9 or 3.4) engine with DFI (only 3.4) and no IMS bearing

Minor mechanical difference are the steering pump (stronger unit) and EO pump (2 v 5: prevent oil starvation at high speed cornering).

Minor suspension tweaking for better balance between comfort and sport.

All 987 uses hydraulic steering. 981 onward electric.

Between .1 and .2 there is a huge price difference.

Hey guys.

I'm planning to get second car for weekend use.

Still cannot make decision whether going for coupe or open top (is roadster is correct term?)

Budget will be around RM150K but can stretch a little bit if it worth it.

Current list based on looks. I have yet test drive the cars. Planning to do it soon.

Current Lists

1. Mazda MX5 NC - I love the ND RF design but it over my budget . NC i think still within my budget.

2. Toyota 86/ Subaru BRZ

3. Mercedes SLK R172

Thats the list currently. Please list other cars suitable so I can test drive.

Thanks

the huge and thirsty engine of the w126 is too much for me to maintain, roadtax alone is a big problem. there's a w115 still being used as taxi (in really bad shape) in my area tongue.gif diesel model though

Yeah TS, what did you get? I am in the same situation like you now. Approaching mid life crisis and looking to get a 2 door car, haha. The cars I'm looking most closely is the MX-5 ND (both the ND1 and the ND2), Subaru BRZ, BMW Z4. I am also checking out the car clubs for those cars as I am not just looking to own the car but also to be part of a group that can experience something new in life.

Now it seems even a used porsche is possible. Will it be possible to get a sub 10 year old porsche for around RM200k that loan will be possible? Plan to start my survey on cars now, looking to purchase towards end of 2019 or early 2020.
