my 2 cents thoughts, by 2010 or earlier:

as a rational manufacturer, to make sense in their product positioning:
1)  24" and above - high end models (to maximize the potentials recorded in blue-ray or hddvd)
                          - entry level models (to satisfy a budget pc user to get a trill of hd era)

2)  22" - main stream models (they will make less response time or higher contrast ratio - as good as an lcd tv)

3)  20" and below - end of product life....
*
you left out one important market segment which is small business/education premises
most of them are still using 17" CRT now
and it's not practical for all workers to use 22" wide just for daily works? it will encourage abuse later on laugh.gif

In order to prevent ants from entering the LCD panel, I've sticked double sided tape on the monitor's cables and stand. Hope if there are creepy crawler that wants to crawl inside my monitor will get stuck by the tape tongue.gif

erm. bad idea man, it'll cause dust to stick on it over time..and you'll have a hell of a time trying to remove it. Not to mention the marks it'll leave.

just keep your workbench clean.. that's a good way to keep insects away.

Well. its ok. It is better to remove the double sided tape once in awhile rather than having an ant moving around inside your LCD panel screen tongue.gif

It can be played but it will appear slightly larger than 22" monitor would be able to display.

Try it.

dell never reveals on which panel they use for TN models.
But i guess most probbaly they using Chimei or other taiwanese/chinese brands, since even samsung also not using their own TN panel in their own products, its impossible for dell to use samsung panel in TN LCDs.

My "stupid" selection for 22" LCD was to go for either LG 226WTQ or Samsung 226BW. How can i know that the LG got ghosting problem and the samsung got panel war!!! I'm out of choices la....

Somebody said the LG 226WTQ ghosting had been settled? Really or not???

They use various type of panel from different panel suppliers across different product.

there's very rare samsung/LG made TN panels these days,
price wars have caused that, u want it cheaper, so prepare it with not so favorable brand of TN panels
note that LG too isn't using LG.Phillips panel for later batch too,

in the end if u want picture quality, go for PVA or other non-TN panels

dattebayo, I'm currently a 17" CRT user. I might not notice the difference for low quality or high end panels. I'm a newbie ma.....I went to cyber cafe and saw their LCD. Only 17" and i was like " wahhhhh.....so sharp and clear". But i didnt intend to replace my 5 year old CRT until now. My dad asked me what i wanted for my PC a few weeks ago, so I gila-gila said i want a 22" LCD, and he said OK, wait for his pay check to arrive........wah lau eh.....my jaw almost dropped at that moment!
Anyway, he's been asking me what model do I really want before he spends some money for the house again, which he really did! He bought a new mattress a few days ago......but his LCD offer is still "valid" wahawahahahha..... :-)

Guys guys, this is a silly question, can i use the 22" in a lower resolution mode like 1280x960 or maybe 1600x900 for movies?Cuz my movies aren't HD and they're just DVD quality! The DVD is just 640x272 pixel! Damn thats a lot of difference! Please advice! Thank you...

nah... dont use LCD in the resolution other than its designated one, 22" should work in 1680*1050.
u still can watch DVD on these resolution, but it will be a bit pixelated compare to watching with TV, but it wont be so noticeable if u retreat a lil away from the screen.

for cheap and good after sales service, Dell is a good choice, if u intend to use it for 5 years, there's an option to top up rm65 to enjoy 5 year full warranty. RM849+65 = rm914... still damn worth for the price, definitely better than those similarly priced Acer, Viewsonic and BenQ.

Well, in that case, do you thinking asking Dell directly would reveal the secret there? Cause i really cant seem to find what panel they are using though..LOL..

If you are going to switch to LCD, its better for you to go with their native resolution. Anything lower will cause it looking a lil bit distorted to me though..LOL..

Watching HD is the only way to go if you are going on 22" as pictures WILL be pixelated even on DVD quality. Unless you are sitting a distant from the LCD, you will notice those pixels. But its still worthit to me as the LCD looks great...

As for LCD offer, the Dell one should be the cheapest around with good after sales service/delivery. In your case, there are also other LCD that MIGHT look better but cost at least about RM150 extra. Take your pick from there..
