Hi all, between a room and a studio unit, which one will you choose to rent? Lets say the monthly rental of a single room is around RM400/month while a studio unit is around RM1000/month where this RM1000 is already enough for you to rent the whole apartment with 3 rooms and 2 bathrooms. Is it worth it to rent the studio unit?

Studio is a suker for it's price tag.

Better rent a house or a room.

If i were a single guy, i would choose studio anytime. More privacy. As long as you find a good deal, it would still be an investment.

If I earn 10k, definitely studio. I like the privacy.

If I earn 3k, of course I can only rent a small room.

depends how deep is your pocket.
studio at 1000 also hard to find unless is minimal furnishing or located at non prime area. I think icity or 3 elements still can get such price.

here a real case example to the scenario you posted, just completed Landmark residence at Sg Long:
- Studio fully furnish is renting out at 1200
- 3 bedroom 1000sqft unit in the same development is also renting out at 1200 basic furnish

Anyway, better comparison is using studio VS master bedroom. which is more worth it to rent.

master room you still you need to share utility with other tenant, studio everthing is yours.
if you had the money, prefers privacy and hygiene then studio wins anytime.

else, just get the whole apartment for yourself. that will cost the same as renting a studio plus you have extra room to put guest that comes over.

room aside, utilities bill also need to count it. Electricity, water and wifi bill.

Rent a room, share the bill.
Get a house or studio, pay everything yourself.

And parking? Studio maybe included parking fee?

if rent a 3 room unit, feel a bit like wasted for the other 2 unoccupied rooms sweat.gif i do prefer a studio unit for its privacy and also bigger space for comfort, other than these i think they are quite the same like a typical room but they are like twice more expensive. for those renting studio unit, i think you guys dont mind paying more for its privacy?

everyone wants privacy. That's where studio wins hands down....cos you have the entire place for yourself.

Depends on your level of privacy preferred. Less housemates, less headache. If your pocket deep enough, studio will be better. Bear in mind though, cooking will make the entire unit smell no matter how good the ventilation is.

Be like me get a Studio in a non prime area, PM me if you want to know where (in not an agent fyi). I used to rent a room in cyber, but with the problems with the housemates, cleanliness, noise and so many other stuff, i decided to stay in studio. Also dont need to argue on electricity bill. I used all for myself only (sometimes I dont pay cause bill less then RM20 haha)

The most important thing for me is on SAFETY, if u rent a room u may not know who your neighbors are and maybe one day u come back see stuff has been stolen.

Also if sewa room, toilet has to be shared, and not everyone have the same hygiene as you so its better to rent a studio.

You mind sharing with other people? If not, the RM1000 is perfect, because you can sub let....RM500 + RM500 for 2 rooms and you are living rent free.

Edit: Studio if you want more comfort and your own private space. Financially though, it is not very sound.

Room will be better option.

There’s someone in the house to talk to once a week at least.

Many don’t really go back rented place so you don’t see them all the time anyway.

Plus it won’t be so creepy on a thunderstorm night. Lol...

As someone who is renting a room, i am VERY happy if nobody is in the house. Unfortunately, as most of them are students (im a worker), they are always there, much free time. I hate it.

depends on either u like privacy or $$$ pack more on your wallet....if 400 with utilities all in doesn't sounds bad...anyway u need to ensure your housemate is clean somewhat, additional u need to worried if you're cooking, fridge sharing, washing machine sharing, this and that...if it's because of prime area that cost this much try find a little further. I believe there's area where u could rent a unit at 800 + - .
